Saratoga Sunroof - Bulk-Buy

Scott,

I agree entirely, but Nick wasn't going (or wasn't able) to solve the problem. In fairness he offered to collect the thing and give me a full refund, which still applied even if my own attempts to rectify things didn't work. Given that I like the roof (and the monumental palaver we went though to get the thing) then it seemed worth going to the small amount of extra hassle to fix the thing given that I had only the cost of the materials and time taken to lose.

I think that the problem is solvable with the right adhesive. I just need to find out what that right adhesive is. I'll keep this thread posted as I very strongly suspect that all rooves supplied in this latest batch will be similarly affected.

Oli.

If you can clean all the adhesive off the sea; I reckon tiger seal would be a good bet and will allow you to reposition the seal before it goes off, once in place I'd put the roof back on the car whilst it cures to hold the seal in place.

I checked mine this evening and I'm lucky as its still stuck in place.

First one to appear on Ebay?? Nothing to do with me, hard to fit one to a 968 cab!! Amused at the asking price, especially as it's possible Pilkington have some left over from the bulk buy due to returns/refunds.

Search this thread for contact details for Pilkingtons and ask them, I think they had 1 or 2 left over from the order. Ive also flagged your interest on the porsche968uk forum, another place you should post is the Tipec forum as buyers came from this forum as well as PCGB and 968uk.

Just emailed Nick and he said none left.

I bought 2. One for my brother who also has a 968 (not a PCGB member). He is about to sell his car and as far as I know has not used the Saratoga or maybe only fitted it a couple of times. It does make a big difference to how the car feels inside with so much more light but the big advantage for me has been that because it is so much lighter it is easier to remove during the great weather we have been having and I have been in open top mode quite often. If you’re still interested I can ask if he wants to sell it separately from his car.

Hi Chris - yes please ask if he wishes to sell - much appreciated

OK. I’ll ask. Do you have an offer price in mind? Looks like the eBay one went for £550. I can’t remember what we paid. My brother may.

Any luck Chris?

I'm pretty sure the price on the bulk buy was £418 + £25 delivery. You'll find confirmation if you read through the bulk buy thread. Also remember there were initial problems with the front latches, read the whole thread for details.

Hi Chris - yes sure made for some interesting reading! I offered him £450 as long as the latches were good but maybe he can't access his private messages - took me a while to work out how!

Mine is still unopened in its box! And knowing me it will be another 3 or 4 years before I actually get it out of the box.

So while I'm not desperate to sell it, if you would be interested in taking it off my hands, let me know and we can discuss.

Cheers, Dan.

Hi Dan - if you are interested in selling I would extend the same offer I made above, I would have sent you a PM but can't seem to do so for some reason.

Dave

The time has come. Ever since my roof arrived my sunroof has been inoperative and although I like a sunroof I haven't ever got around to fixing it.

But now it is working.

In theory it appears that swapping it for the glass one is just a case of that but before I try did anyone have any issues and/or things they needed to adjust etc. I shall liberally grease the seals on the car and the roof before fitting.

My car is nice and watertight and I'd rather keep it that way so did anyone's leak immediately?

All and any info gratefully received.

I feel its one of those jobs that should take a matter of minutes but could create major headaches.

For one do not put anything petroleum based near the rubber seals, the roofs just swap over but you might need to make a adjustment to the front mounts, I had to slacken mine off a turn or the strain was too much on the fixings

if you need to lubricate the rubber use Gummi Fledge or however it’s spelt

Thanks for that, vaseline was my plan but I'll rethink. I haven't tried but presumably the front mounts rotate. If not what do you adjust?

i had to use swan neck pliers wrapped with a bit of leather to move the front clip bolts

this is the stuff for rubber, and thats all rubber, door seals, roof, boot, bonnet, headlamps wherever

the roof on my SLK made a horrendous racket, 2-3 treatments with this stuff and its almost silent
