Schroth Harness

h_____

New member
i have just checked my harness and the clasps are badly worn with one connection jammed. For now i have fixed it using the lug from the crotch strap, as i dont use that, however i would like to get it fixed. Has anyone managed to get spares for the clasp? if i cant then i think the plan is to box the originals and fit new harnesses. If i do that, what have people gone for? Can you still original looking belts, or is there something better. certainly for racing i think belts have moved now.

Plenty here to choose from or at least browse at............ [link=http://www.gprdirect.com/OnlineShop/Summary.do?c=125&i=1]http://www.gprdirect.com/OnlineShop/Summary.do?c=125&i=1[/link]

I went for Sabelt as they still retain their 90's look with the large Sabelt logo on the shoulder straps. The new Schroth ones look too modern (GT3ish) for the 964 in my opinion. Have a look on Demon Tweeks as they usually have them in stock.

I use Sabelt, which I think may have been factory fit in some instances on the 993rs. 3" are so much more comfy than 2" and must be safer? I chose Sabelt as they do have a "retro" look about them!

I've just bought a Schroth harness and aren't that thrilled with it. The clasp is plastic, fiddly to undo and not all the tabs seem to click in evenly. I much preferred my previous Willans harness and wish I'd bought another one. The Schroth installation CD is exceptional though.

The Sabelt ones are superb quality with metal fastenings as opposed to plastic. Never had any problems with them and as Richard says...factory fit on RSRs etc.

ORIGINAL: Melv Must be the budget version John![;)]
It certainly wasn't the most expensive. [:)] It might even have been the cheapest "known" brand from Demon Tweeks. [8|] You do get what you pay for. The straps and adjusters are great - its just that damned buckle. []

ok thanks for the comments. I only need the buckle not the straps thanks. sounds like the way forward is new belts and box the old ones. Looking at the schroth website, their harnesses look quite good, but i agree a retro look is better, so i might have a look at sabelt too. If anyone sees a set of old schroths for sale give me a shout, as i could raid the buckles for spares.

h__, I think I've still got my old harnesses in the garage, you're welcome to one of the buckles. I'll have a look when I get home. They are old (date expired so no use for competition), possibly the originals.

Ian, that would be very helpful if you do have one. when you next get chance to look please let me know. No rush though, not going far in this weather!

I was entered in a couple of rounds of the Porsche Speed Championship last year before my engine started leaking badly, so couldn't run. Now rebuilt, I'm going to try again this year. I'll have a look for the belts over the weekend.

Don't want to piss on your day guys, but be careful with used belts......... Schroth shoulder straps should have a safety feature which tears the threads on a folded back section if it has been used in anger

thanks melv, the belts are fine, it is just the buckle. i am sure the belts are fine for road use. Would want to upgrade if/when the sees active service again. i have always swapped belts after a proper shunt in the caterham, but wouldnt have worried about it for road use. thanks Ian, much appreciated.
