Scoobie

That car will blow up (again; it won't have a later closed deck block because the owner fancied one, it will have been fitted last time it lunched the standard one). I have already advised it's owner that his plan of selling it on in a few weeks is the right thing to do [;)]

Amongst the paperwork was an invoice for a piston ! I was wondering why there was a dustpan and brush in the boot. Better get the tape measure out quick !!

I must say that Mr. Sims did look resplendent with his baseball cap on backwards though.

They're a wonderful car, if you like that sort of thing. I think I prefer something more substantial, like one of those plastic cups out of the water cooler...

Hi Phil,

I ran a 99T impreza turbo for 3 years without a single fault. She avgd 27 mpg and always put a smile on my face. Only car that that i could tear myself away for was my 964 that i bought a year ago.

Yes they have a bit of a boy racer image but hey, porsches have been trying to move away from the yuppie image for years, and did that stop any of us buying one?

They are great, practical and fun cars, that as an all round performance package and value for money, i dont think there is a better buy. Just make sure you buy a standard UK car thats not been thrashed round the block and the dealers have all the best ones.

Regards

Craig

I borrowed my mates Impreza Turbo and was rather disappointed, It was a lot slower than my 44 turbo, brakes were awful, no feed back through the steering, handling poor.......... I was not "impreza"

Loads of head room for the obligatory cap with large peak tilted at 45' and a spoiler large enough to iron a whole track suite[:D]

Never driven an Impreza (or an Evo) but no matter how good they might be I just couldn't live with the looks - they are Uuuuuugggiiileeeee!! and the interior looks like something knocked up in someones shed on a Black & Decker workmate.

I am reminded of the "I look up to him" sketch of Corbett, Barker & Cleese:-

I'm a Porsche driver so I look down on BMW drivers.

I'm a BMW driver and I look up to Porsche drivers and down on Scoobie drivers.

He's a Scoobie driver and everyone looks down on him.

I've seen that site before, and several features on the black car they developed the conversion on. Very nice and one day when I have enough space to indugle myself I will get one. Currently we're maxed out on off-road parking with 4 cars, at least SWMBO says we are because apparently the car parking space we have left is called "garden" or something.

Your Anglebox is also very nice BTW.

We have a 03 53 estate version and yes its not the best build quality but its comfortable, quite quick and we can get plenty in the boot with all the seats down. For what they cost you would have to look quite hard to find a comparable package.
I have been informed by she who drives it most that when we come to replace it next year then the new 2.5 will be top of the list.
Might try to persuade her with an Alpina D3 touring mind as the fuel consumption is poor at best.

Superb [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D] [:D]

I have a Porsche and a Scoobie (momentarily) so I prefer to look ............................................................. up to my Daimler

On reflection, the Scoobie would probably make a good ashtray if you could be convinced that a cigarette wouldn't burn through it ....

Fen, I keep trying to take the concept of a concrete garden painted green and flower colours to SWMBO but it doesn't seem to be as attractive to her as it is to me. When 105E gets back from the repairs needed after the Spanish Artic wacked it on the Catalunya Rally I'll let you know so that you can give it a go.[:)]

Oooh, I'd love to see it up close.

I'd even let my wife have Astroturf if paint doesn't swing it for her. Maybe we just need a different house with more parking.

Well I drove a prodrive africa edition bug/eye for a few weeks and was mildly impressed but bored - when sideways my wife could tell it was pulling itself straight from the passenger seat.
My old man has an STi that was tuned and destroyed itself within 200miles 6 times - faulty MAF then a faulty new replacement from the subaru dealer - tuner stood by their work and rebuilt it FOC each time but I guess there isnt much spare strength.

The 17/18 yr old girl accross the road from me has a new boyfriend with an early Scooby with a dustbin sized exhaust. It makes a right racket, especially at midnight when she's being dropped off. It's in that minging green colour too. Her dad must be having a few sleepless nights at the moment. I suppose in about 17yrs time i'll probably be in the same situation!

My sister in-law has a subaru impreza wrx, and after a couple of months of ownership she finally let me have a drive. I really dont like them but I'm not going to pass up a free test drive. I'm sure its much faster than both my aging Porsches, but it didnt feel like it, i can truly say it felt poor, i really wanted it to redeam iteslf in some way because i have always hated its looks but i thought wrongly it would be a good fast drive, and it just wasnt, after about 10-15 minutes i returned the car in disgust and got back into my BMW never wanting to repeat the experience. However she loves it, thinks its the bees knees how well each to there own i guess what ever makes you happy.

A couplke of friends have been 'road testing' my scoobie today and came back grinning from ear to ear.

I call it care in the community [:D] [:D] [:D]

Poor fools.

I've got the option of swapping my daily winter driver (Honda Prelude) for an early mark one Impreza Turbo - since you are all very knowledgeable on cars can i ask what your thoughts are from anyone who has driven one - are they any good?

I just thought i'd say thanks very much for all the comments - very helpful.

I decided not to go for it in the end. It felt very quick in sraight line but on the motorway without the turbo spinning it felt hopeless. There was some surface rust coming through which put me off, as did the gold wheels and big back box which made it sound not unlike a tractor.

I'm sure they are pretty good cars, but I think that having owned a 944 my expectation levels are that much higher.
