Selling my 944 Turbo - again!

Shouldn't a cat be recorded on log book? There's probably plenty off cars that would off been classed cat c/d repaired outside off the insurance there for not recorded, as values where low vs repire costs Un till recently.

No, that only started in 2002. This car was recorded a decade before that, and before the classification system, as we know it existed.

History explained to buyer (spoke to Andy earlier), but they are happy that this occurred 23 years ago and that the repair was obviously a good one, given the car's current condition.

A fly in the ointment may be insurance, I've read insurers can be reluctant to pay out fully on a car that has had a total loss pay out in the past.

They have no choice and they wouldn't be allowed to make any sort of reduction for a 23yr old repair. PH is full of fools talking out of their arses, with each looking to out-do the other and exaggeration is rife, rather like with 'the cost of 944 sills'. Before you know it theyre stating, as though it were fact, that 'youll be lucky to get 60%'.

The FOS has a monthly newsletter and they publish decisions over motoring insurance claims in most issues. Read them and youll see that their position has remained consistent for years.

He could be as interested as he likes. The Financial Ombudsman Service will not allow an insurer to pull that, and what they say is binding.

Odd that you know my post count, as I have no idea! [:D]

Good sense always prevails, through all the guff as 944 man says.

Was reading this thinking of all the 2.7 RS's that have been on their roof, hammered, filled, patched and dropped valves with abuse (fragile things if abused - luckily no over-rev record with 915 boxes and all [:)]) and now they are worth...?

OK, a genuine minter as opposed to one of the above is worth more but when a car becomes classic, and appreciated, a bit of a repair is irrelevant in the whole scheme of things if done right. Look at Mr Beans F1.

Only problem will be how to ge back into as good a 944 in due course....[8|]

I don't think I used the term 'guff' George, but its an excellent (superlative - possibly) adjective. I also like 'flim-flam' and the ad had this in spades, making it difficult to see what might have been a decent car, for me.

Maybe for experts this was a flowery advert, but everyone who phoned said how much they liked the advert.......

Thanks for your inputs though, Gents.

As you say, George, this was little different from a major restoration - except that it's been proven over 23 years to be a good one.

However, I hope we have all learned about the limitations of HPI checks from it; I know I have!

Russ

I think the fact that you have sold the car very quickly both times backs up that the advert was a good one, and was a fair representation of the car you were selling.

Congrats on the quick second sale :)
