One last favourite for the weekend.

Haven't decided about the valence yet. I caught it on a particularly steep speed bump about 4 years ago and then had to bend it back to shape, so its looked kind of dodgy for a while now. Its also cut for dual outlet muffler in a fairly rough manner. I could get the valence fixed and fill and repaint the bumper - which looks pretty grungy - or I might put a plastic bumper on it. Problem is, that I haven't decided what the long term plan for the car is in terms of bodywork/style and I don't want to spend money on something I may yet throw away. I thought this thread may provide a few clues. Should I leave it as is, backdate, Ruf look, narrow or wide body? The bonus fairy will probably be the deciding factor !

Richard,

Backdate is great but ÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁÂŁ

RUF is nice, but again I have seen prices for the MA Shaw parts at ÂŁÂŁÂŁ (at least to me, as ÂŁ1K for plastic seemed a lot to pay plus fitting / painting etc.)

I would love to do RUF / IROC look as this is how a lot of the Speed Championship cars look, but again haven't found where to get them from in UK. Someone did mention that Autofarm may have a mould etc.

Try Mike at Motomotions.com - they can get anything and have molds for the ruf bumpers. Pricing is competitive. I think more like ÂŁ3-400 for a bumper. Try nineoneone.com as well - I think a ducktail is more like ÂŁ400 from them.

Backdate is not too bad if you are cheap. You can use a long hood on the shorthood bulkhead and can bond glass horn grill mounts on to the short hood fenders to replicate the longhood look. There is an RS rear bumper that fits without cutting the rear as well making the whole thing a bolt on and not much more work than panels, bolt-on and paint.

Richard
Where did you get the nuber plate lights from that you have fitted ? I have made a bracket to mount the nuber plate under the bumper and then I am going to fill all of the holes and use domeheaded bolts to fix the bumper on.

Do you have any pictures or know of anyone that has taken this approach. Nick Moss was ~ÂŁ5K to backdate, so immediately out of my range.

The dark blue picture posted by Jason is my colour, so inspiration there.

We have quite a few members on DDK that have backdated their cars & a nice thread running at the moment following the backdate of a 3.2. Have a look / ask some questions on the DDK forum [:)]

Thanks James - I have also found the 'Ultimate Backdate' thread on Pelican to be of great interest, espacially the Series900 (Dan) pieces that bolt on to do it !

James,

Could you post a link to the DDK article, as I cannot find through the search engine anything for 'backdate AND 3.2'.

The story behind this one.....

Appeared on the front cover of 911 Porsche world quite a few years back - caught my eye so I bought the magazine. The rest is History as they say.
After I told the owner the longer version of this story, he excitedly showed me the engine bay and let me have a sit in the drivers seat. I was really made up! and I'm glad there isn't any pictures to show you of me grinning like an idot pretending to drive around brands hatch!

That's a great car. I know the guy who owns the yellow Garrard RSR that was next to it at Brands - its a Gunnar restored car. They are great cars, though there are very few occasions when you can actually drive them. My money would be in something I could drive whenever I wanted to - totally academic because my money is imaginary []

I just read the thread of the DDK forum about backdating and the 3.2........don't those early cars just look sexy..........

Now the cogs are turning, probably not sometjng I'd take on this year, but maybe in the future, I'll wait for a few to be completed and get a scale on the cost and complexity.

I would also assum you could take a few short cuts like no changing the window suurounds if they are already matt black, etc

LOL...you're really getting the modifying bug now aren't you? Start from a scrapper your car's too good to chop about.
