Silverstone Evening August 7th

In any case, the main problem is me getting on the power too early in the tight corners,

It took me ages to stop doing this (and to some extent I still do) and it really scrubs the outer edges of the front tyres and makes you think the car is an understeering pig. It's always easy to say (and harder to do) but make sure you don't put the power down until you know you dont have to lift again until the next corner.

Now that you have done one day and have got the bug I really recommend you have an instruction session at the next one, it will help you no end if you are open to whatever the instructor says.

Alas I doubt my car will be ready by the 21st. The bodywork should be finished by then but it needs a bit of fettling at Jons which includes the final tuning of the ignition timing and also the addition of a Vitesse Wasted Spark system, oh and did I forget to mention - BRAKES!

Peter don't worry about your driving speed. Once we had done two laps I was fine for you (and MarkK later) to do whatever you wanted. Your car corners so much flatter than mine, and the front end turn in seemed so much more precise also. You and Oli at RPM have got it very well sorted now and I don't know if it's because of the lightness or your rebuilt SPS head but it is so much faster than my S2 in a straight line. It will be interesting to see it Dyno'd again at some point

I did have a session with Callum Lockie on Tuesday

therein lies the problem [:-]. At least I know where I am going wrong. I have a good friend who happens to be a very useful racing driver joining me for the next one. Unlike Callum he wont be afraid to swear at me if I keep doing stupid things. Roll on 21st!

It was the plain white one from memory, will be interesting to see if Rick captured any of its cornering ability.

That's my mate Alex - I passengered with him at the Ring & it was quite exciting [:-] - he's done about 70 laps now so knows his way round. He was on 888's - they are pretty much shot now, but I think he's got plenty of wear out of them. It's a very impressive car (for FWD)

He had a drive of my car - but was much more sedate in that. I kept telling him to go faster [;)]

I will be booking for the 21st today [:D]
Peter, I am encouraged to hear that your T-1Rs are lasting well - mine aren't! I think I need to change my driving a bit. I was going into the slow corners too quick, leading to understeer. The outer half of each front tyre is totally shredded. I will stiffen the rear a bit more for the next one and slow down a bit!

It's a common problem - too slow into fast corners & too fast into slow ones [:D] I failed miserably with the chicane at club / vale several times, going in way too fast.

One thing to try is to go into the corners still on the brakes - keeps the weight in the nose & helps stop the understeer. Doing this has really helped me. As long as you make a smooth transition off them in the first part of the corner, it works pretty well.

Rick's pics are up - all 62 pages of them [:D]
