Silverstone Track Evenings

ORIGINAL: MarkK

I would love to actually go to one of these what is the noise level??[8|]

Get Roger and Andy to shove some sort of pre silencer on the pipe where the cat should be and let that monster come play (or you could always bring the RS [8D] )

Yesterday I dashed to Bournemouth to collect my freshly refurbished and tweaked cylinder head from Simon at SPS engines (which looks fantastic, I wish I'd taken some pics to post here).

The guys at RPM are really going to have their work cut out getting it installed on Monday and Tuesday, but I'm really indebted to them for having a go and squeezing my car in at such short notice.

I'm not helping though, this morning I did something really silly. In a hurry I went to check my oil before coming to work after the long journey yesterday and didn't notice that one of the bolts securing the left hinge must have slipped letting the corner dip down and dig into the screen, well you can guess the rest!

I needed a new windscreen anyway and for only £75 excess I can't complain, but getting this fitted before the trackday is really pushing my luck (I doubt I'd be let on to track as it is). Curiously Autoglass can only find the top tint version in stock and I'd prefer to stick with the original one, but I suppose beggars can't be choosers!

Tomorrow I might have a go at fitting the Aerocatch bonnet latches which I bought to make sure the bonnet didn't fly up and hit the screen as it nearly did a fortnight ago... They catches don't look pretty, like a giant pair of nostrils, but should do the job.

I somehow think the odds of me making Silverstone next week are looking a little borderline, but it wont be from want of trying from everyone involved!

Fingers crossed...

Peter

All hands on deck!

Hope you get it finished on time Peter, of you do I am holding you to those passenger laps at Silverstone [8D] (I will bring some Duck tape for the bonnet though [;)] )

So who is definately going tomorrow?

I'll be there for scarey pax laps and if you want me to autograph your copies of 911&P World please form an orderly queue [:D]

Me [:D]

weather's looking OK

...quite happy to give some scary pax laps (although SCARY has been redefined recently for me after my first couple of passenger laps at the ring - my driver has done over 70 laps & knew where he was going - I didn't [:-][:-] )

Too many variables to say anything for definite from me I'm afraid. I have a feeling it will be the windscreen that will be my downfall, I gave up on Autoglass as they said they were having to get the screen from Germany and went with another (recommended) firm, they think they might be able to fit it in time but that depends upon when the screen turns up.

The guys at RPM have been working hard on the car all day and if there are no problems then it might be running tomorrow, if this is the case and the screen is still cracked then I'll definately be along, even if only to spectate [:(]

Just finished a few jobs on the car, so just sent Melindi an e-mail - hoping to get a place tonight. See you all later.

Of course it is full at this late stage - so at the moment I do not have a space. Might you know anyone who has booked but cannot use their slot?

Bummer, we must have talked too much about these evenings [:(] Do you remember when they were nearly empty a few years ago - blummin internet

It might be worth watching the outcome of Peters windscreen blues (I have mental pictures in my mind of Oli at RPM trying to torque down the new head whilst autoglass are standing on the wing trying to bash the windscreen into place :ROFLMAO: )

Yes Paul. Evenings for Goldtrack all started at Bruntingthorpe a few years back-halcyon days!! Do you remember the Ginetta that left the track and came racing towards all of us as we packed up at the end and chatted on the apron? Then it struck a ramp from a transporter, which flew up in the air landing where a Bentley GT had been parked minutes earlier- very odd piece of car control. Thankfully no one injured.

Blimey, I didn't think the take up would be that large. If my car is ready I'll be going along in the hope that I can get a space from someone that drops out, which might be possible [8|]

Sorry folks, didn't quite get it all together in time. The engine is basically done (thanks again to RPM for their amazing efforts) but as the screen is being done there tomorrow morning we decided to finish the whole thing off without rushing. I hope you all have a good evening (the weather certainly looks good).

I'm not having much luck with trackdays this year, I'll definately (famous last words...) be at the next 944 Silverstone evening in August and may sneak another in before then (although finacially this isn't a great idea given the recent expenses [:)]). May also try to do the Porsche only Oulton day too.

Best regards,
Peter

The weather was very good and the track looked pretty quiet from the pitlane (despite being fully booked). LegalEagleBoy and I had plenty of time to chew the cud in the pitlane while Edh and ChrisG were going very well on track and there was also an F40 being driven as nature intended [8D] I saw a black S2 going for it and put both N/S tyres on the grass along the pit straight and get a bit wobbly coming back on to the tarmac [] Gave me the heeby jeebies just to watch it

No point in rushing to get your car on track after major work, a bedding in period seems wise.

Nice evening for a walk down the Silverstone pit lane with my son -- no last minute space appeared so no lappery. Had a good chat with Paul as mentioned above. Yes it did seem quite empty for a fully booked event, I suspect they restrict the numbers for a reason other than track capacity.

Looked very hard for some F1 souvenirs!! but non in evidence. Mclaren were still dismantling their 'new motorhome' at the back of the pits -- amazing thing, with hydraulics built in, large plate glass elements & 3 storeys high. Did I hear that it cost £10million? But it takes 3 days to dismantle!

Anyway am now booked for the next evening event at Silverstone on 17th July, same time same channel next week then. Anyone else going to be there?

17th July evening event.

My halfshaft bolts all changed & torqued, new rear pads, brakes bled and new front wheel bearings checked for adjustment. Tanked up with Tesco super unleaded at 5p off per ltr, so am ready for the off when I've put a few tools etc in the car.

Silverstone here I come, anyone else coming out to play?

paul f

Not me I'm afraid Paul, I'm nursing my wallet at the moment [:(]
I will be at the Aug 7th one though (which reminds me I must book it today).
Hope you have a good evening.
Best regards,
Peter

Oh yes. After all Beaky's mods it would be rude not to give him at least one proper outing. [:)]

Excellent [:D], it'll be great to get the old gang back on track (hopefully with lots of new people too). What do we reckon to perhaps a June or July date?

Hi All,

I'll be doing as many as I can get to this year -

Hence, I plan to be there for May 14th!

Regards,
Andrew

I'd be up for that! Not done a track day before so have some questions:

1. Is there any reason why a 2.5 Lux with a normal back box would exceed the noise limit?
2. What do you do as regards insurance? Do they offer a policy as a company, I'd like to be covered if anything happened (either my fault or not).
3. What time do they start and how long does it go on for?

Sounds right up my street!
