Yes I have driven a 912, Yes it has a reasonable balance for an early car...where did I put the 912 down?? Lets be fair nice car, indeed a classic but it is more about handling balance than speed...I certainly admire anyones enthusiasm for any particular derivative of Porsche, that is why we are all here. I do hope your evening gets better....cheers []

ease up,every body thought it was funny or most did,i just said typical des!![],and he is not the first one either.
It was good that you were not on the brands parade/race with sigi brunn and the 908 etc a couple of years ago.
I see you also made comments about a couple of early 911 racers on the track day,who were having good safe fast fun.
I hope you enjoy your next porsche weekend better[]
Well Done Des,may be it was my wine from the night before,or that your tires were round!!!

Thanks I will leave it here. My 912 is not totaly standard and with the orginal engine going back in it will be a fine car. currently 85bhp not alot but you wouldn't have noticed that too much on the Monday. To 125 poss 130bhp a nice package for a small car. I was pleased to show some of the 911 owners the car and I knwo Barry a great guy ( 911 owner and restorer ) said these kind words

I have to say I didn't expect to quite get as much power down though the corners. Anyway it's Porsches we love but as a 912 owner we do have to fight our corner when comments are made against it, but it's funny how many 911 owners once they get out my car have a new respect. esp at Classic Le Mans on the french back roads. Yes my evening are full thanks with my 54 356 65 912 and the 69 912 tinkerings. Soon to be haulted for the sound of tiny feet.
No malice taken and happy I made my point, respect all round [][]

912UK, I was going to say, "Fair play for you posting here" with the first post but have you never had a moment whilst driving? I seem to remember seeing, somewhere else about 2 Ferrari drivers coliding on their parade lap and I can remember about 10 years ago at the Coys Festival at Silverstone, a Ferrari driver lifting as he spun it on a parade lap at Luffield (1 or 2, I don't recall) and hitting the barrier in a fairly big way which delayed the afternoon's racing.
Just chill. Anyone can make a mistake and if someone like Des can do it, what would have happened if someone like me, with a mere 8 trackdays under my belt had been in the same situation? Off line, even the best can come unstuck.
Like you, I didn't see the incident, so I am in no position to judge and I can understand your frustration at being subsequently precluded, but also I am in no position to pass judgement either.

I happen to know a few owners of 912's (and have been in their cars) and they all seem to have this same need to try to justify their cars against the 911. Inferiority complex??[]

I have read the "other thread" and it does seem to have got a few people wound up. In the light of this, what most springs to mind is a Monty Python line
Great to see the legend growing. He likes to play with his bucket and spade in the sand but is not very good at marbles! Whatever next![]

Wow your car sounds like the best in the world and one that all real 911 owners must bow down to! I'd love to have a passenger ride in your car but by the sounds of it the experience would be so overwhelming I'd probably have to sell all my cars for scrap and go and live in a cave until I recover.[][][][][]
Grow up, then chill out....you only live once and being jealous you couldn't get up enough speed to spin just means you'll always be in the shadows of The Legend Of Desmond

So it was Des..... Des!!!!! who came to the 912 christmas meal two years ago!!!
Seams you wanted to keep that from your fellow 964RS mates []
and for the best car in the world, well I am sure you think yours are to. The 12 is just a 12 but a great drive and an enjoyable one." Shadow of a 911," that sounds like a typical 911 owner who don't like the thought the 912 ever exsited. Ref speed I think so far it seams that I have managed to keep my speed just right to stop it from spinning. But I think you will find I managed to push 911's in the corners. Anyway I had fun..[][][]

Ok so some people lost the opportunity to go round the track on Sunday, big deal. If your idea of fun is crawling round a track at 15mph with a 140 other cars then you missed out BIG. And you should get out more[] For the rest of us it was'nt the end of the world. From what I saw there was'nt any "stupid" driving, just a stupid mistake. Being human and not a machine it happens.

Laurence it was a big issue to us and a number of other people stop being selfish. We had never been on any track before my other half had seen the effort I had put in and she her self was very excited about TRUNDELING round the track thank you. So it is a big deal. She missed out, and will have to wait till next year.. only problem is we will have our first child with us. So we will be needing a baby sitter while we are going round the track CRAWLING round and having fun thanks..
So I will put you down for baby sitting for this next year as it's no BIGGY for you.. thanks I will tell Jo we can get our selves ready for next year. []

What we seem to miss is the point that it was UNFORTUNATE for Des to spin as I am sure he didnt want to go foraging for nuts and berries. It was UNFAIR of the clerk of the course to ban the porkers from the track afterwards. If any abuse needs to be directed then it should be to them for being sooo nanny state. Last time I looked Silverstone was a race track and like it or not people will go that little bit quicker than on the road around it which the clerk of the course should take into account.

As I said it was no big deal, you'll do it next year, or in your case you did it again on Monday etc etc. Seems your ever so quick to apportion blame too. As I said before I saw no stupid driving, spirited yes stupid no. Nobody in our group were as you say "racing", cornering and straight line speeds were kept at levels way way below that. We were having FUN in a safe way. Des got caught out by the marbles it's easy to do even at low speed!!! Thinking we were "racing" shows a real lack of understanding of what our cars are capable of and is understandable if you have never sampled the acceleration and braking ability of an RS. I even heard one person on the forum suggest parade laps should mean cars bunched up and three abreast. That's fine if you want a puncture and a car covered in stone chips not so good other wise.
To my mind the reduced numbers on Sunday had far more to do with timing than driving on track. The organisers let 150 cars on track on Saturday and realised that it would'nt work and so drastically reduced the numbers for Sunday just imho. Don't buy into the rumour mill[]

Can I suggest you put an end to this one man cruisade to bring Des to justice for his attrotious crimes against you and humanity... Accept an error of judgement was made and stop standing on your soap box.
God forbid you make a mistake on a parade lap, trackday or on the road, but then again it seems that you have never made a mistake before.
