The 2011 PCGB Club Championship

Are you sorted Mike? if not call me and I will make sure you get a ticket ...... Let's go racing............ !! In the paddock, woke up early, the excitement is certainly building. Achieving a balance between going as fast as I can but making sure I stay on the blackstuff is more important than ever -- and there are loads of guys queuing up to try and overatake me in the championship points table. Let battle commence......................

Mark -- sorry for your engine woes -- the paddock is an emptier place without you. You'll have it sorted by Thruxton and can come out and re-write the history books......... Paul ps. me came a rather low 11th in the first race, 10th in class. Car holding up and the driver just needs to extract a bit more pace from somewhere for the 2nd race about 6pm.

Mark, I tried but it just did not happen for me today.................. A special hello to all of you who dropped in including: Jason, Dave, Neil x 2, Mike, Lali and a good number from the Hartech workshop as well. My car went well, I kept out of trouble but was just not fast enough. Came 10th in Class 1 both times, the best I can say is that I am consistent and will just have to live and fight another day! Ben Demetriou who I am racing with had a 4th and a 2nd, which is a great result especially as he got in front of Sumpter the championship leader in Race 2. Peter Morris & Andy Purdie won a race each Full results here and they tell most of the story: [link=http://www.tsl-timing.com/brscc/2011/111931.pdf]http://www.tsl-timing.com/brscc/2011/111931.pdf[/link] .......... I need a shower and an early night , I am exhausted!

Well done Paul and many thanks for yours and Mike's help today, it's very much appreciated. Watching from Hollywood and Craners, your car looked planted . . . I really ought to get out and spectate more often! [:D]

Looks like the honours were shared around nicely over the two races and the two wins for Marcus in Class 2 will certainly have spiced up the championship! Also interesting to see that the Class 1 front runners were slightly quicker over a lap than the boxsters in the BRSCC races.

My car was feeling really good right up to the point it let go,feeling a bit gutted today, waiting from a phonecall from the guys that run me to tell me how bad it is,so i am on tenderhooks,of all the tracks it had to be Donnington didnt it...[&o]

Paul – you did great at the weekend and stop running yourself down. Our Hartech team does not have the racing experience, personnel or resources of some of the others (who have been at it for years in their resplendent transporters and facilities) and you have had to play the role of our team manager as well as race yourself – and the team is doing really well – (largely thanks to your organising and your and Ben’s driving). We have been 2nd and 3rd in the Championship (don’t actually know where we are today), have three seconds and I think two fastest laps, have beaten the series leader and are the top points 968CS finishers – which is fantastic – let’s celebrate and congratulate everyone (especially Rob who put a lot of work into Ben’s car last week before the Donington race). Your best lap time of 1.21.449 was excellent and despite not having many of the benefits of other established team competitors – I think we are the top team entry in the Championship. It’s always tiring and draining to race but look at how well our team is doing and feel good about it – well we certainly all are up here in Bolton! Ben’s drive in the second race was exceptional and I think if the race had been a little longer (or the track a little hotter) we might have got our first Win (just 0.4 secs behind the winner and closing). You are a valuable member of our team Paul and we are doing far better than we ever expected (or probably deserve while we have so much to learn about track craft) and your input is making a lot of the difference up – well done!!!! Baz

Hi All Good to see you all again, maybe not the best weekend for this group but its obviously all part of a greater plan! I did take a few pics as usual and a few of them are - [link=http://s787.photobucket.com/albums/yy158/A9XXC/BRSCC%20Donington%20Park%2015%2005%202011/]here[/link] The first race was great with Pete winning, but the racing was close all the way!

I can only echo that Baz, Paul I think you are unfairly beating yourself up. I think the fact that the front runners pushed each other so hard opened up the field and left your good self and a few others stuck in no mans land. For many laps you were just driving around on your own, I have been there too at Silverstone last year and its a really odd feeling. Very hard to push on when you know you can't catch the guys up the road and have a safety margin on those behind. Marcus Carniel did amazingly well in the old Jez Clarke S2, pulled 1/2 a lap on Chris Dyer and will only get faster if he comes out in the future in that car. Certainly helps everyone in class 1 when it comes to the championship.

It was obvious when Marcus chatted to me a couple of weeks ago about setting up the drive in Jez's old car, that he was really missing racing in the club championship this year. I believe the rounds at Oulton Park are also in his sights, presuming the car will be available. After Sunday's results, I'd put money on him now working out how many other rounds he can make it to. The No 87 is a 968 piloted by the well known Donington expert Mark Koeberle -- he makes a point of sticking well clear of the gravel traps! perhaps it was the red 944 that came off at Goddards and was well and truly beached in Race 1

Pauls's quite right Mark wouldn't go anywhere near the gravel unless it was to gain competitive advantage! Unfortunately he had engine problems in practice - see above and 944 forum I got some shots of the other red one spinning though, a couple are on my Photobucket site.
