The 2011 PCGB Club Championship

I thought someone else was doing the timing I couldn't find it on TSL! Big Dave to the rescue again!

Engine was toast after Donnington, tried a short cut to get it going in time for today and it didn't work, should be as good as a new engine by Rockingham, Got a good person helping me with rebuild,so hopefully should be able to improve a bit.The old engine was not happy. Bit gutted to be at home, this season not as smooth as last year [:D]

PADDOCK REPORT NO 1 Quickie from the paddock, done practice this morning and did a 1m 30 -- much quicker for me than last time BUT the kerbs at the start of the lap have been reduced and laptimes are going to be a bout a sec faster. Morris got into the 1m 27's Quali session starting in about 90 mins - more then! Paul

PADDOCK REPORT FROM THRUXTON No 2 Quali - in dry and sunny conditions Demetriou 1 27.45 Masarati 1 27.5 Morris 1 27.7 (corrected) Sumpter 1 28.4 Lambert 1 28.5 McAleer 1 29.1 Bennet 1 29.6 Scott 1 29.6 Harrison 1 29.7 Winter 1 29.9 and ... Follett 1 30.15

Great qualifying Ben and Paul, just to correct Morris's time was 1.27.707. Good luck in the race guys - we are following it from a great distance. Baz

THRUXTON PADDOCK REPORT 3 Race 1 just completed, 3 bits of news first. -Morris had a high speed spin at Church, all OK and he finished -Demetriou had a brake failure. He did go off but managed to avoid anything hard -- one damaged wheel and tyre, a distorted rear trailing arm and all being fixed for the 2nd race. -Scott also came off at Church, his tailgate sprung open. Results of top 10 finishers, weather overcast track just dry frpom recent rain: Masarati Sumpter Lambert McAleer Morris (Fastest Lap) Winter Dyer Class 2 Harrison Bennet Follett Baz -- yes, guilty of a copying error, now coirrected - thx Finally, someone shunted me at the first tight right hander, my tail pipe was kinked through 90 degrees almost blocking the exhaust!! no wonder I was a bit down on power and boy was it noisy inside.............

Weather was cooperative for at least some of the day - qualifying was in sunshine to lure everyone into a false sense of comfort... Paul demonstrates the newly-lowered corner at Club:

Lots more images being processed now - [link=http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=32332324%40N00&q=PCGB+Thruxton+2011&m=text]all on my Flickr account[/link]. And as usual, if any drivers or teams want copies, do get in touch. I must offer a massive Thank You to Paul and Hartech for the ticket and pass today. See you at Rockingham.

A few shots from Race 1. Mark McAleer only needs two wheels:

After taking pole in qualifying, sadly Ben's lead didn't last. Here he is with Mark Sumpter snapping at his heels at Club Corner. Hope you're back racing tomorrow:

THRUXTON PADDOCK REPORT Chris, great pictures - thx, you are spoiling us.......... Raining here at Thruxton and a wet race seems a certainty at about mid-day. Both Team Hartech cars will be out, bit more fettling required to both of them but the bulk of the work was done last night - we even had time for a BBQ ! I have been listening to the Le Mans 24hr race over the net, with 6 hours to go it is a sprint to the finish for the front 3 cars as they are on the same lap - amazing.

Well done Paul to keep it on the island today in conditions just about as bad as they could be. Carnage out there for some of the guys, Ben did amazingly well to bring it home where he did considering how much many of the front engined cars struggled. Congratulations to Malcolm Scott, amazing performance in a very stock looking 944 S2. Would be interesting to find out what suspension their running on that car, his car worked great in the wet when some of the other front engined cars looked pretty much undriveable.

Full results here :- http://www.tsl-timing.com/barc/2011/112321.pdf Neil, thx. Yes Ben did great bringing his car home in the wet race. Just got home, bit damp and cream crackered but the car went well, I grabbed a few points as the circus now looks forward to Rockingham on 16th July. (bit more of a report to come when I can find some time)

Well done guys - seems it was a horrible weekend for many and wet on Sunday (including problems @ Le Mans and rain @ the Canadian GP. I was sorry to hear that some of our front runners had severely damaged cars by the end - I hope you get them all fixed for Rockingham (and hope to get to that one myself). I think we have quite a lot to fix on Ben's rear suspension (great temporary fix at the circuit though) and still managed some points despite everything else. I know the brake cross over lever pin security system was changed in later cars (due to some failures) but have never had a problem there before - will have to see if there is a way to make that brake linkage system a bit more secure before the next race! Still enjoying the challenge despite some problems - that's racing though! Baz

Hi Baz, I have just been looking at this on the pdf part catalogs and for reference for those wondering what this is all about. Looking first at the 944 one I can see the following in group 7 illustration 702-5; 1) Clevis: 803 721 213. This bit was OK I believe? didn't see it myself. Item 7 on the diagram 2) bolt 8 x 32: N 023 476 1, Its item 10 on the diagram but doesn't look much like a bolt? Then the equivalent diagram for the 968 shows a different setup, same illustration number as for 944 but; 1) Clevis: 999 166 061 30. Item 9 on the diagram 2) bolt: 999 088 010 02, item 11 on the diagram 3) connector: 999 021 001 07, item 12 on the diagram Baz is this change from 944 to 968 what you meant by a change due to some failures? How does it work btw does the bolt screw through the clevis into the connector on the diagram? That connector looks like a weak spot, if it breaks. It was a very scary moment there when Ben went off and lots of worried looking faces when it transpired why his brakes had failed. I will be getting under the dash of my S2 soon enough to check.

I have some pics from the Saturday race which I'll post when I have chance, now preparing for the 20th anniversary bash of the 964 at Clastres etc. Very sorry about the spin for Richard B., and even more unfortunate that Miles should manage to spin in the same place ... [:(]

God yes what a weekend for Miles, superb win on the Saturday he literally did look like he was driving the wheels of the thing. Everything seemed to go wrong for him on Sunday. Right at the start for example he almost seemed to miss his grid slot only to then rapidly turn to the left to get into position. This left his car sitting at a fairly extreme angle to the general direction of travel. As no one else did the same and it looked like he had a compromised start I could only assume it was a genuine mistake. From then things just got worse for the poor guy.

Sorry Paul, I tried to go slowly......! They have my ECU in for inspection, I just hope they don't find the 400bhp map I have secretly located on there tucked behind the flux capacitor.

Richard. well done, you are the wet driving king! almost 30 seconds ahead of the field. I guess your ABS must have been fixed, or were you just relying on your natural talent !! Yes, saw Terry Cox (our scrutineer) harvesting ECU's at the end of the race, must have collected about 6 of them. The day he asks for mine I know I will have had a good race....... not happened yet.

A bit OT but..... Are any of you guys having new MPSC tyres fitted at Rockingham? And if so do want to sell some old ones (presuming they have a bit of life left in them)? The reason being, a buddy of mine is after some for his track hack. He needs 225/45/17 and could pop along late on the Saturday at Rockingham and give you a few quid to take them off your hands. PM me if you have anything. [:)] I picked up a set last year from the County Classics team and while they were past their best for racing, they're good enough for a couple of trackdays. Better to get a few quid for them than throw them in the bin. [;)]

Steve - hi. Our team might have some so drop by, but at £225 each for that size new we tend to dispose of ones that will have no use for us in testing otherwise we are throwing money away ie very well worn. NB. Protyre support us at every meeting and a rummage around their used pile of tyres can sometimes be worthwhile! all the 968's run that size on the front
