The 2011 PCGB Club Championship

Here is the in car video from my 964 at Thruxton in June. [link]http://youtu.be/X4wQdjStZsM[/link] Youtube only allows 15 minutes so I had to edit out some 'dull' laps in the middle. I was expecting the 968's to do well in the wet as they are better balanced than the 911s but they were rubbish.......

Really enjoyed the day - even the rain! Mark - I have 2 short clips of the race starts if you'd like to see them? I've not sorted them yet. Some pics of the day are here- [link=http://s787.photobucket.com/albums/yy158/A9XXC/Porsche%20Club%20Races%20at%20Rockingham%2016%2007%2011/#!cpZZ1QQtppZZ20]Rockingham[/link] Paul - thanks for sorting ticket, and your drives were really good to watch

The race 1 start is a moment I want to forget thanks Mike!Great to see you, pics look great !

Thx Mike and Paul, always good to see your photos AND Richard your vid from Thruxton was great, car and driver in perfect harmony. Now Mike, that vid clip of the start of Race 1 might well make good viewing for me !! starting 7th and going in side by side with Sumpter at turn 1 whilst battling for second place was a career high! I will post the full PCGB race report as soon as it is available, a report from my own perspective below. Quali was very wet and the circuit stayed that way for the whole session, funny that as the conditions were similar to the last time out at Thruxton. Sumpter managed to top quali but McCullagh, Ward & Moudi who are all rookies came through next followed by Koeberle, McAleer and myself. Morris had a mare struggling with a car that had a dry set up, perhaps hoping for a drier line that did not materialise. Demetriou just got back to the pits after 1 lap with a gear linkage mal-function, this was simply repaired in about an hour so he got to race albeit having to start last on the grid as he had not done the obligatory 3 laps. Higgins had a wishbone pin failure in his 968 .... yours truly supplied him with 2 of the uprated Hartech ones so that he was able to race as well. ( I am becoming known as the man for 968 spares!) Race 1 was also on a wet track but a bit less water was falling from the sky, so laptimes were about 5 secs per lap better than quali but still 20 seconds away from dry laptimes. As mentioned above I had my best ever start and after the first bend held 3rd position for a few laps when Sumpter actually did a slow speed 360 in front of me. I was then 2nd and frankly amazed! I put this down to exploring the track thoroughly in quali to find out where the grip was and then using it. BUT then as others got used to the conditions and perhaps as they followed my lines Sumpter, Demetriou, McAleer AND Higgins all got past. There were 2 drivers of the day in this race McCullagh who romped away with the win in only his 3rd race and Demetriou in the Hartech 968 who got a podium having started last - brilliant. Race 2 was run in dry, windy and sunny conditions so we all had to rush and change our set ups back for dry running -- for me that means ARB changes, dampers stiffer, lower tyre pressures and refixing the engine bay strut brace. This time I was 4th on the grid owing to a better 2nd fastest lap from quali. Slotted into 3rd place after the first corner chasing Sumpter and McAleer -- then to my amazement I hung on and pulled out a 10 second lead on 4th and held it almost to the end when......... Pete Morris hauled me back in on the penultimate lap. So my first podium finish was snatched from me 2 minutes from the end of the race - that's racing!! McAleer came away with the win, followed closely by Sumpter. Well my car is going well, I hauled a good load of points and the top five in the Class 1 championship table remain (prov): Sumpter Demetriou Morris Follett Ellis Next races at Oulton Park on Saturday 13th August

ORIGINAL: A9XXC Really enjoyed the day - even the rain!
We got a bit of rain on the Sunday before our first race, which made the track rather entertaining! But then I have slight sunburn now, so there must have been some sun! One of the Boxsters had a serious off in the second race and ended with all four wheels pointing different directions. Did you get any hassle, Mike? On the advice of two different people, I tried to get a bib but they didn't want to know. Sorry to have missed all the PCGB guys as I won't see you now until Silverstone at the end of September.

No hassles but I just stayed on the roof and spectator areas. I got soaked from the outside first and then from sweat inside an hour later, couldn't keep my cap on in the wind though! Mark / Paul - I'll try to sort the videos of both starts later but I'm not sure what either will show!

Mark look away now [;)] Video clip now :- [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ywUITWbAG3k&feature=youtube_gdata]here![/link] Sorry for the bit of the back of Neil's head!

Fame at last [:D] Both Mark and Paul took big steps forward this last weekend IMHO. Well done chaps.

Nice read Paul, so close to a podium! Sounds like some good racing though. They're certainly keeping you on your toes! all the best JP

Cheers Neil,Mr F is getting quick and Crafty! My car feels much stronger now but has poor traction but that should be fixed for next race,I felt a bit out of practice, qualifying well doesn't meen squat [&o] Really good fun though[:D]

Mike enjoyed those clips a lot ! .......... now if only I could finish a race on a podium instead of being in the top 3 at the first corner! Full race report here: http://www.racecar.com/Motorsport/News/McCullagh-and-McAleer-Take-Contrasting-Porsche-Club-Rockingham-Wins/42890.htm

Paul, Your getting closer to that elusive podium,, keep trying, youl get there soon...[;)][:D] Keep up the reports, its great reading.... Dave.

The championship points table has been updated after 10 of the 17 rounds, see here: http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/content/cc/points Top 6 are: Sumpter.........271 Demetriou.......187 Morris............179 Follett............170 McAleer..........160 Ellis................156 Sumpter still well out front, all the intrigue is in the battle for 2nd and 3rd at the moment, with McAleer hauling his way back into the reckoning --- add to that the fact that some drivers will have to drop scores if they have points from more than 15 of the 17 races. We are now getting to the business end of the season. Next 2 races at Oulton Park, Cheshire on Saturday 13th August. Drop by if you can (PM me on here if you might want a free ticket -- I can often get a few)

Mike - in fairness I don't think Pete's struggles with his car is all down to the GAZ units. Our last 2 weekends have had significant periods of wet running and I think the adjustments that are made in the garage are crucial - IMO Kevin would admit that he might have called it better.

In the dry he and his car are awesome, when I grow up I want to be just like him, with a splash of Mr Fs saftey and smoothness!
