The 2012 PCGB Club Championship

Although the first race is not until May 5th, things are starting to hot up. Current list of entries is here: http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/sites/default/files/files/Registered%20Competitors%20@%2012_03_12.pdf and you can see which cars people are coming out in - some 996's and more Boxsters than we have seen before. I do know at least 4 more people who have yet to enter as well, so it is going to be a packed grid if everyone turns out as planned. My car is now back in one piece after it's engine and gearbox/LSD refresh. I ran it in at Silverstone on 2nd March and then it went to be re-mapped as I believe in having the engine run at optimum all the time. Only issue has been the clutch, it is new but the bearing on the pressure plate has been misbehaving. Think we have it sorted and I will now book some testing at Brands & Donny so that I can give myself the best chance of starting well. Make sure you put the dates in the first post in your diary and do take the trouble to come over and say hello if you do attend. NB Occasionally I am able to provide entrance tickets so keep in touch if you want to try and blag one.

I should have been clearer, my fault [:D]. Pretty much a certainty that I will be doing some number of the races in the club championship. Looking at doing all rounds apart from Croft. Very excited as it will be my first proper season. Still haven't had anywhere near enough time in the car though, its like everytime I get in it I gain confidence and learn more. See you guys track side [:)]

Apart from myself I know of another 3 guys that are supposedly coming out but not listed at present as registered championship competitors. It raises the question about how are rent-a-racers or shared cars shown? Anyways it will be great to have a plenty of cars out, still have vivid memories of the 40 odd car grid for a CSCC race at Silverstone. I prefer it that way anyway. Paul is it 1 or 2 mate, make it 2 and give Alex a race [;)].

Not sure if this is the right place for a Boxster comment but just to let you know we will be registering two Boxster S cars soon, with Ben Demetrio and Marcus Carneil as the drivers (guess you already knew that) and have had a first satisfactory test at Oulton Park and are busy working on the cars. I underestimated just how much work goes into preparing a car from scratch - and more so how hard it is to know where to start with various settings and geometry when you have built two cars to a spec no one has ever built before and therefore there is no historical information available to help. Even leaving out the labour time and cost involved and the cost of buying the cars - just the parts list alone for each car has cost several multiples of £10K - just incredibly expensive - with no definite previous performance indications it will work out OK. First indications are that the cars have good potential but we are learning what to do with the thousands of potential permutations that all the various set-ups can achieve and it is hard work and extremely complicated - but faint heart never ******. We discovered it was too misleading to try and save the racing tyres and use road tyres during intial testing as the performance was so different it caused more confusion that it was worth - so I guess we are going to go through tyres at quite a rate. I believe there are also some 996's in our series this year. It will be really interesting to see how they go on - and we considered it ourselves - but in the end we realised that with our lack of race craft experience - we would be better off with the slightly more balanced Boxster than the more powerful 996 (for this season at least). We have a race car blog on our web site (www.hartech.org) but in rather typical Hartech fashion we are too busy to keep it up to date although it does have some information and photos - we have to put paying work and the race car work first but will try and keep it up to date when the cars are at least finished. All the staff are very excited about the season ahead (may not be quite so much when they realise that racing is as much a question of perseveering through unexpected problems and dissapointments than simply turning up and doing well) and are coming along to the meetings (so will soon find out). Good luck to all our fellow competitors - we are determined for it to become an enjoyable experience whatever transpires - and look forward to the challenge ahead. Baz

Just sharing with you that I have decided to run in Class 2 for 2012. Despite the 30kg weight penalty for a 968 in Class, it seems to me the best way to gather points and challenge for the championship. Entries being posted off today for the first 4 rounds. I will be running in a 2 car team with Andy Duncan, also in a Class 2 - 968. We'll race under Andy's NINEX MOTORSPORT banner, unless of course we can find some serious sponsorship from elsewhere!!

latest entry list now up, one typo on car model - can you spot it? http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/sites/default/files/files/Registered%20Competitors%20@%2026_03_12.pdf

bigdave ...... a winner! you get a bacon roll and a cuppa at the next race you attend! s'man ... no those are the entries for the whole season, entries for Brands on 5th May will be shown elsewhere as that is an MGOC event mind you some other errors have come to light: .. no Mark K after being shown on an earlier version .. also the weight and power of the 993's is inconsistent across the 3 entries

The latest season entry list is now up, a few changes from the last one and Dyer is out in Ben's old car in Class 1 http://www.porscheclubmotorsport.co.uk/sites/default/files/files/Registered%20Competitors%20@%2030_03_12.pdf

I see Steve Cheetham [ the 924 exponent ] is coming out to play in a Boxster.... Interesting and its looking like a vintage year....[:D][:D]

............ 'vintage year' ........... careful now, for a moment there I thought you were raising the subject of drivers' age !!

ORIGINAL: paulf968 ............ 'vintage year' ........... careful now, for a moment there I thought you were raising the subject of drivers' age !!
No,,No,,No ,, thats a whole other subject... Hee hee....[;)][:D][;)][:D]

it was practice at Brands yesterday and ran my video/datalogger. ......... so frustrating, car going well, track clean and very grippy........ just could not get within 0.5 secs of my best lap time from last season (55.9). Pole will almost certainly 1.5 or more seconds lower than that as well. I am staring the challenges of the 2012 season right in the face......... it is not easy this lark and easy to get de-moralised. Yes, fresher rubber might help, but that is a £1000 luxury each time when I have a good supply of part worns. Decisions, decisions. I am fairly certain more courage is required particularly at Paddock and Druids bends, so I'll work at that come raceday (May 5th) onwards and upwards ..................
