The 2012 PCGB Club Championship

I am posting this for a different reason , I have a question for Neil , I have been offered a great opportunity to drive a 993 rsr at Bathhurst next year . Neil my question is , does Rfactor have this circuit ? , if so can you tell me what I equipment I need to get as this would be great to learn the circuit ,I can start another thread if necessary so we do not interfere with this one ,Cheers Ben Demetriou (Faze1)
Hi Ben, rFactor will run on pretty much any modern computer. I use a Logitec G27 wheel and shifter kit but broke the pedals so replaced those with the lovely Fanatec clubsport pedals. I highly recommend the Fanatec stuff but its not cheap. The one thing though I find a big help is to use as big a monitor as possible, you don't get any physical feedback to note when the car is starting to slide so have to rely on visual cues, the large monitor makes this possible as I find I can note when the yaw angle has suddenly changed much earlier than noting anything else. The last round of 3 races at Silverstone has been edited into a programme on MOTORS TV called 'Last Lap'. It is going out a few times in the coming week, next showing is on Monday at 15.15 pm. I need to see it ............
 
Good coverage of our Championship finale and competitors - thanks to the sponsorship of the TV recording by Pete Morris (PMC Midlands). I felt that Paul Follett deserved a bit more introductory comment at the start (as he was perhaps most likely to upset the apple cart and win the overall Championship) and being as near to a pure privateer as anyone can get these days - but the balance of content and interviews was understandable in the circumstances and at least it promoted the series and cars and gave us a chance to see our cars and will all help to sustain the competition. Although I have been whinging on about the power to weight ratios (with good reason) - that was in no way the fault of the competitors who benefited - or their teams who provided close fair racing all season - and with whom I have never had anything but respect. My appreciation to Pete for paying for that TV coverage is genuine and sincere - well done! Every competition needs as much exposure as possible to survive and anything anyone can contribute towards that is welcome. It will be interesting to see what changes in those weights are about to be revealed next week and what new models may or may not be introduced. Hopefully it will be sufficiently corrected to encourage everyone to challenge each other again next season - and that we will feel like putting our cars against whatever opposition emerges. Baz

I wonder if the Cayman will be allowed in?
 
I actually spoke to Steve Kevlin about this recently - who was under the impression a Cayman S was the same as a Boxster S with a roof. He said he was under a lot of pressure to allow them in. I said they were firstly a 3.4 and secondly had Variocam plus (variable lift and timing) and so would be even faster than the 996's (that proved too quick at the weights they were set at in 2012 anyway). I also asked in that case if a 3.6 996 would be allowed in but the response was "not for many years" - which I found odd since they were manufactured about 4 years prior to the Cayman S and are therefroe less expensive to start with. I find it all very puzzling - where is this "pressure" coming from and if the Club resisted pressure (wrongly in my view) to correct the error with the 996 weights all season until the class was won - why do they find difficulty resisting pressure from whomever - for a model not yet even allowed in yet? Even a 2.7 with Variocam plus would probably be about as quick as a Boxster S with only Variocam - but frankly I couldn't care less what models are allowed in as long as the weights they can run with result in fair and equal performance and therefore opportunity. This would be difficult if the formula only takes into account peak bhp since variocam plus provides more torque and it is this that accelerates the cars - hence the rave reviews about the Cayman models performances (and the later Boxster S of course). It is not difficult these days to establish lap time comparisons for different cars once you know the weights, gear ratios and torque curves - many systems can do it accurately off the shelf. I think few people realise that most rolling road dynos work to that same principle except in their case the know the resistance of the rollers and wheels and work out the bhp or torque curve (you get one from the other) based on the rates of acceleration against loads - exactly the same way as simulation programmes do except they replace the roller and dyno resistance with rolling, inertia and wind resistance. I cannot think of many teams or drivers who could afford to build a Cayman S anyway (after finding out how much our Boxsters cost) - with several drivers going for 996's next season - there cannot be "pressure" from many sources and anyway - why would they get priority consideration? I must say the longer this farce goes on the more dissilousioned I am with the whole process of trying to set fair weight limits and equal models. Let's have the methodology or formula out in the open please in future so we can all understand what is going on and lets also have a system in which we can raise a complaint (if we think it is wrong) and have it responded to and dealt with properly.
