Thicker steering wheel

Hi David.
It may be easier if you list the part number that has been identified by your OPC. As I mentioned before I don't think the standard parts catalogue lists the XPA unit as its an exclusive option , only the smooth leather wheeel is listed which is the same thickness. The actual part number will change depending on the colour and if its a triangular (standard) or circular (sport) design of wheel and airbag.

The XPA (thicker sport) wheel part numbers are 997.347.980.00 + color code. When looking at these wheels in the catalog, "480" is still manual transmission, but now "432" is Tiptronic (with a corresponding ~$70 price increase for Tips).

The thicker sport padded wheel is listed here on the suncoast site, but the thicker triangular item is not :

Looks like we may have gotten somewhere with all this.
We have been in touch with the the US supplier Suncoast who have the parts we are looking for which include Turbo gear knob and Aluminium handbrake cover and if all goes according to plan we stand to make quite a saving over UK OPC prices even including delivery cost from the US.
Basically the costs of the steering wheel from an OPC here is £1400 without fitting and the costs in the US is the same in dollars.
Also the the gear knob and handbrake cover here is £1000 whilst US price is 800 bucks.
Obviously we have to factor in the costs of fitting but none the less its quite a saving.
Many tks for all the advice from everyone on all this especially the recommendations for the US supplier Suncoast from Nick and Berty
Will keep u all posted as to arrival.

Just be a little careful with your calculations, the Uk customs will charge you a VAT charge based on the goods and postage cost , this could add up to another 150 odd pounds. Certainly that was the case when I ordered my Techart wheel from the USA. The items cannot leave the bonded area at the airport until the customs are paid , many couriers also add on a charge to handle the payment of the customs.

You could fit the parts yourself , they are not difficult to do. If you plan on paying a main dealer to do the work I'd suggest there is still some mileage in trying to get an "all in" deal for supply and fit .The mark up on spares can be anywhere between 50 and 100 percent in my experience.

Finally got there. We ordered the parts from SunCoast Porsche in California as recommended on this forum By USA Nick that arrived last week. Porsche UK wanted £1500 just for the thicker steering wheel but we managed to get the Wheel, aluminium/leather handbrake with porsche logo inscribed and Aluminium Turbo gear knob all for £1500 shipped over from the states. Today Autostrasse fitted all parts for a cost of £150 each car. So all in costs £1650. It has freshened up the inside and the new parts feel great especially the steering wheel. Porsche wanted far more for fitting But we used Autostrasse who were great and even dropped us back at the station whilst the cars were being done and offered to collect us. They are really top chaps!
I would like to say many tks for everyones input and help with this on this Post as it saved us a good deal of cash and the advice was priceless. Cheers

Will endevour to get some pics on there ASAP. Not been near the car all weekend due to the weather so it slipped my mind

Guys im trying to upload the pics but all im getting is that the files are too large. im lost! happy to email them to anyone unless anyone has any suggestions.

Alternatively open up a photobucket.com account (its free). Upload the pictures to photobucket then copy and paste the link into the post here. Thats what most people do as it saves using up the attachment allowance and cluttering up the local server.

Doesn't really make too much sense to me as I don't have any probs uploading pics to email or eBay etc and we r only talking one picture at a time. Tonight I'll send the pics to your email Berty and Gary and if u cud upload them that would b great cheers

I agree with Nick, once you start modifying its vey hard to stop.

So will it be more aluminium interior, body kit, or engine/intake upgrades........

ive been ont he hunt for some new seats but getting them from porsche is far too costly. funnily enough in one of this months porsche mags that was on about options when ordering a car ( i think it was total 911) they had new recaro style seats fitted that were £1900 for the pair but different story if u want them aftermarket. engine wise im inclined to leave well alone as seemingly ive got a good reliable car and i dont want that to change for the sake fo 25bhp or something similar. Turbo wheels i toyed with but i actually like the ones ive got so unless some good seats come along im kinda done for a while.

Oh, the other thing i did get of course was PSE which is another good option and may go with short shifter.
