Track Experience day 12th September

Alex

Great video, enjoyed watching it.

I think Jason Plato would be in real trouble if he wasn't much faster than us in his 5th Gear TT video at LLandow. He'd be out of a job as a racing driver.

This track looks pretty good:

Anyone done this before?

I've just sent you a vid but I see you've beaten me to it! That straight is 1.8km long!! Should be enough for you Turbo chaps to get up to speed. As it's an active RAF station I wonder if they would do "private" track days? Anyone up for the 8th Nov?[8D] Hand held cameras are ok and overtake wherever you like, it seems[:D]

The track is so wide that yes it does seem like overtaking/driving is a lot less risky than on a tight track.

Let me check my diary but I think Sun 8th Nov may be good!

Sounds tempting - my one concern is as a non all Porsche day, you'll get massive speed differentials with people in bangers who a) might be unaware how much faster your Porsche is coming up on them or b) simply not care and still want to be in front. Yes they might get black flagged but only after giving you an off and a horrendous repair bill

The fast bits are so wide though you could stay 10 car widths away from people whilst overtaking! Looks much safer to me than other tracks.

I was doing 165mph in my Audi last week 1 lane away from people doing 65 on the German Autobahns....

If it's a standard width runway it will be 45m wide or some military airfields are 60m! The taxiway bits might be a bit narrower but still a lot wider than Llandow! So you could get 15 cars side by side! It might be worth asking what is the maximum number of cars they book, although on a track that long 20 cars on track at any given time would not be a problem.

A couple days before my birthday, would be inconsiderate to myself not to go have some fun [:D]

Are we booking then, chaps? I have just e-mailed them asking what is the max number and do they have enough places for, say, 5 cars.

Update - I've booked it!

Let me know what they come back with on availability and I shall try and book myself up.

Who else is up for it???????

Ok, heard back from Trackdays and they usually book around 30-40 cars max. There are plenty of spaces at present. So get booking!!! See you there!

Yes, but as I found out at Llandow, a passenger is 80kg and makes a huge difference. Add a cost to this and the fact I already have a camera mount... Not many pluses having someone co-pilot [&:]

The only downside is then I can't take other drivers out for a spin. I might see closer to the time if I can add a passenger should my Mrs or brother want to come along.

I'm really pleased to read and see that many of those who attended our 997 Llandow experience have got involved with the trackday bug.
Its great that many would not of entered the track scene without the gentle introduction [;)]

Hopefully you may also see the benefits of using the clubs trackdays which do also offer a solution to the situation that many of you worried about- other drivers.
However admittedly at a cost.[&:]

Yikes, just looked at my passenger side tyres, they are covered with picked up rubber melted into them!

I hope that will wear off in a few hundred miles as it's definitely affecting the grip right now!

Mine look like that too, but at least I can take them off and put the road wheels back on! Are you getting any mild vibration as a result? I don't think Odiham will be as much of a problem as the long straight will help to cool stuff down!
