Transfer Box Issue

Hi

I have been talking with my local OPC today specifically about the transfer box issue.

I can confirm based on what I have been told today that Porsche have extended the initial new car warranty to 7 years on the transfer box only.

This applies to used cars and not just original owners. With or without Porsche used car warranty.

Hope this helps

Trevor

Do you have anything in writing or was that just a conversation. My Macan is over 4 years old and currently under extended warranty so 7 years would be good to have should transfer box issues occur in the future

Can I ask the source of your understanding please. Anything in writing would be very reassuring. Just spoke to OPC and a)they were (disappointingly) very guarded, expressing not jot of regret a car of such low mileage was experiencing such a serious problem and b) acted surprised to hear of the 7 year extended warranty. We are driving to Pembrokeshire next week. They did say they have no experience of transfer box total failure and it will not cause damage to any other part.

Here you go... I suffered from the issue in a 2016 Cayenne S Diesel. I rectified it myself by using Ravenol oil 3 times over at 50k kms. However, i checked with Porsche Sweden about written confirmation. They say it is a global warranty extension (7yrs) on tx boxes all over. I'm sure the same will be true for macans.

I can confirm that my OPC has told me about the extended warranty and campaign for a free oil change. The OPC should not be quibbling over this, it doesn't cost them and their attitude is bad for the brand.

Hi

Sorry for the late reply, see your question has already been answered.

But yes spoke to both of my local OPC dealers both had documentation quoting the 7 year warranty.

If your OPC wont play ball, try another. You don't need to have an extended warranty.

Many thanks for the responses. I dropped the Macan off at Tonbridge OPC first thing this morning. Mid afternoon they called to confirm it was the transfer Box, the replacement parts should arrive and be fitted tomorrow AND they had spoken with Porsche who had agreed it would all be FOC.

n a recent trip to Switzerland I started getting vibrations on Cayenne GTS when accelerating, so I called Porsche Uk and they said that there was a note on the file that the transfer box should get checked out next time I bring it in however no one told me about it, as I would have had it checked before I took it on such a long trip. I took it to Porsche Geneva who confirmed it was the transfer box, and they repaired it under warranty and were very nice about it. I had to rent a car as they had no courtesy cars available. I am now trying to the cost of the rental car paid for by Porsche UK who are claiming the transfer box is not covered in the UK by an extended warranty. This problem has existed for over 10 years, and still are they not taking responsibility or notifying their customers, not sure why the worldwide warranty coverage applies to the whole world except the UK. And also why Porsche UK cannot offer the same level of service as other countries.

Can anyone confirm if this covered or not?

How old is your Cayenne.? I have read on an official Porsche uk site they are covering the transfer box for 7 years. My friends Cayenne Gts transfer box has just gone too.

Thanks but this from the taiwan site, i can’t seem anything on the UK site, i have checked and can not find anything from Porsche Uk,

Thanks for the extensive info on this already. I have a couple of further questions.

I have a Cayenne 2011 Turbo with just over 70k miles on it. The transfer case had been replaced in July 2021 by an indy for £2k at the expense of the previous owner. Date of 1st reg is in Oct 2011.

My questions are:

[*]How can I tell if the transfer case that has been fitted includes the modified ‘breather pipe’? I’m not sure if that is an additional part or an updated model of the transfer case itself (any pics?). The transfer case fitted is listed in the invoice as part number 958 341 042 DX.[*]If it doesn’t have this, any idea how to rectify it? Has anyone had success getting an OPC to update an already-replaced case?[*]I gather the problem is water ingress. I’ve only done 1k miles with this case but I drove through very heavy rain on the motorway for a couple of hours last week. How much exposure does it need to start causing problems?[*]How could the previous owner go about getting reimbursed if he can’t find a letter from Porsche about the extended guarantee?[/ol]Thanks!

This is the Macan forum. You might receive answers here, but may do better posting on the Cayenne forum.
