Turbo Engine Rebuild

The SciVision is up and running again with the loom sorted and a brand new Bosch MAF unit. I've got an almost brand new AFM tucked away for the next rainy day!

I can only go on AFR's however it idles at mid 14's now so it doesn't seem rich, and the AFR's across the range are spot on.

One small issue I have, and haven't been able to sort so far, is that warm idle is nearly 1.1k revs, cold idle is normal around 850/900 rpm. TPS possibly but it seems to be working and clicking when it should as you can see fueling stops off throttle (AFR gauge shows this) and recommences for idling purposes.

It's been like that since the engine build 2 years ago.

Edit to add - with the aircon switched on, warm idle is pretty much back in spec, so it's a head scratcher!!
Have you had the throttle body rebuilt with new seals etc? When Simon at SPS rebuilt mine, he had to source a new butterfly valve as mine was badly worn and allowing too much air to flow past when closed.

Haven't had the throttle body rebuilt, I know it leaks a little from the butterfly pivot holes on each side as we ran a smoke test when trying to find a fault when the engine was rebuilt and wouldn't fire up.

However, why is it fine when cold and then not fine at full operating temp?

I'll have a look at the TB at some point but for now it's little more than a minor inconvenience!

The ICV could also be the problem, never played with that either.

Road Trip update. 415 miles so far and the tools have only made a brief appearance as the boost line popped off the banjo pipe. Another new way to lose boost control!

Anyway, I only had small tie wraps so managed to double tie wrap it. Will put a small jubilee clip on if we pass a hardware store.

Short leg today, Scarborough to Whitby. Fish suppers for dinner tonight!

Car has been a joy to drive. Still on first tank of fuel @ 415 miles, need to fill up today, bit more economy than I expected so all good!

Sounds like you may be passing mine on the way back?

Last day of the trip today, in Dunbar with about 650 miles done. Port Seten and Berwick today before rounding off the journey back home.

Car has been great. A few cracking overtakes on the A1 yesterday up the East Coast. Boost line to the banjo still happily connected.

Roads a bit greasy today so a leisurely jaunt home beckons.

Home sweet home, 750 miles tucked away, what the car was made for. Faultless other than the banjo pipe incident, but can forgive that!

Makes all the hard work worthwhile and wouldn't hesitate to go on another long trip. Effortless miles, some great roads and scenery, and of course plentiful injections of boost when called upon!

Time for a stiff drink!

Meant to add that's me now passed 10k miles on the rebuilt engine. No oil or water loss anywhere. Well and truly been put through it's paces now, very happy with it all.

New gear shifter kit arrived today so duly fitted it. The pin on the old one was very very worn! A quick test drive showed a nice improvement and now reverse gear engages straight away with no fuss.

Also now a dab hand at popping the plastic bearing cup on and off the bottom of the shifter!

Kit came with the shift lever, 4 x washers, 1 x circlip, 1 x white plastic bearing cup and some fitting grease. Decent for £49 delivered. Waleswood 944 on eBay, Justin Webb.

I would have preferred the Only944 kit but double the price when you factor in carriage from the states persuaded me to opt for the Waleswood kit. There is now no play or slop, so my shift rod must be still in decent nick unlike the pin on the lever!
