Turbo's gone, long live the Turbo

As many will have guessed and some do know, today I put my resignation of the post 997 register director into the Register director of the club.
It has become apparent that as myself in charge of the 997 register we will never win the register of the year, so I'm going to hand the baton onto someone who will face the challenge with strength, determination and endeavor [:)]
At this time I don't know that may be.... but know who I feel would be the person and that the register would continue at strength under.

I'm not planning on disappearing as I want to continue to enjoy the events the register puts on - that and I've just paid my damn subs for another year [] although unlike some members of the club I understand I may not be able to park in 997 line ups or specific events [;)] -but I'm keeping my slot for Monaco!!!

It also so happens that I sold my car after a long itch was finally scratched.[8D]
I have been for a long time looking for a TurboS with a two tone cream/black interior and a sunroof, not much to ask you may think?
I then chanced across almost that very interior I was after but with an exterior colour that I most appreciate, Azure Blue..

So I find myself here....

Sadly it's rained since I picked it up, so only 'wet-look' pictures available at the moment...

Like the Turbo, a lovely rear end..[:)]

And an arty one I somehow ended up with after pressing lots of buttons!! [;)]

I'm gutted to have to step down from the post I've enjoyed for quite a while, those at events may have heard how long I've been looking but the register really has been that much fun to both myself and Joanne

So now I possibly become the interloper [:)]

Be rest assured;
All events on the diary will continue as before as I have offered to caretaker for as long as it takes, (whether that is acceptable I have yet to hear back)
The only issue is I really did enjoy and trust the PCM sat-nav, as some will know the Mclaren sat-nav is until next month not functional!!
So we may get even more lost than usual!!! [&:][&:][&:] lost on a load of twisty bends- what could go wrong :p

Sorry to see you go. Thanks for all your hard work over the years. We hope you enjoy the McLaren.

Best Wishes to you and Jo
Richard & ROsemary

Yes, really sorry to lose you as our boss, Gary. Jo and you have been exemplary in your leadership and planning of events for the register and so many of us have had a great time as a result. Thank you both so very much.
I'm sure you will have great fun in the new toy and can't wait to see it in the flesh, so to speak.

hoping to put some miles on it next weekend- so keep your eyes peeled [;)]

Hi Gary,

Pam and I are very sorry to hear that you're going, but what a brilliant reason you have! Many thanks for all your work over the years - the 997 register has been a beacon of how the cars should be used and I'm sure your 'new brand' will be delighted with your expertise!

Hopefully we'll get to see your lovely new car soon, in the meantime a huge thank-you to you and Jo for all the great events you've organised (and could I ask you to pass on to your replacement your trick for getting good weather on the 997 events!)

All the best, John and Pam

Hi Gary,

From one interloper to another may I say how much I enjoyed the drives that I went on with the register - the Swiss trip being my highlight - I look forward to seeing the new car. Enjoy.

Peter

Well you've done it [:D] fantastic looking piece of kit. Both of you know how much we all appreciate the unseen planning and commitment to the Club you've given over the last few years. I can't count the number of trips we've been on that have been enjoyed by the Register members (and others!). As John and Pam said, they always seem to be in good weather as well. If we finally get some members together you'll be very welcome on the 991 trips too [:D][:D]

Well I have never been able to find much time for joining in on all the register events but it was obvious from all the glowing reports that they were excellent! I would like to add my thanks to Gary for all his efforts. Enjoy the Macca and I look forward to seeing it sometime.

Gary

I'd like to add my appreciation to the pile. Your events have accounted for a very large proportion of my happy Porsche ownership experience - for which I truly thank you. You will be a very tough act to follow (much like on our drives!!)

We of course expect full comparison reports on the Maca - especially capabilies on our native bumpy b-roads. You inspired a entire register to buy 997 Turbos, let's see if you can do it again ;)

Alex

Absolutley fabulous , well done enjoy [;)]

Now you can laugh at all the fuckwits on pistonheads who toss off on the depreciating 997 Turbo threads [:D]

[:D] I know what you mean...
I was realistic on the trade in value (its was less than 40K) as I appreciate the dealer needs to make some money- I'd guess in the region of 45K resale?
With my spec and the most important bit to them was the one owner bit.. they decided to take a 'punt' on the car as obviously where they wanted to be and where I had to be were different, I say had as in keeping the other half of the scent [;)]
They calmly agreed to my figure as I think they knew is was realistic and would obviously secure them a deal...
I lost the usual figure per year but for the fun and enjoyment my 997 Turbo brought me both in and outside of this club was worth the majority of those funds, just looking through the diary of events on this forum and seeing the images it reminds me how much damn fun it really has been.
I know some friends who spend more per year on alcohol or fishing as a hobby than what I lost..[&:]

I am a club member still with a LOI on a new model, so do plan to remain active and continue to drive this one like I drove the last [8D]
It should be run in by the time we get to the Autumn weekend away :ROFLMAO:
If the support is there from my successor then I do hope to continue to put some events together for/on behalf of the register

Thank you all for you kind comments, it has been and still is great fun being here.

Gary and Jo

I am really sorry that you are leaving us and very much enjoyed the few trips that we managed to do with your excellent planning etc. It is with regret that we could not come on more trips due to various other pressures on our time.

I amsure that I speak for all the 997 registry members that you will be sorely missed and that as far as I am concerned you are the registry director of the years.

Lots of luck with your new car. At least we still have one thing in common , our cars are more or less the same colour.

Hi Gary,

First of all, congrats on the 12C ! One of my absolute dream cars !! Obviously this Turbo torque is highly addictive stuff...enjoy the overdose :)))

Would also like to thank you & Jo so much for bringing the group up here (on several occasions) and therefore allowing me to experience a side to the Porsche Club that I previously never even knew existed ! Had some truly great drives with you guys and some truly great laughs also ! I know I'm not alone on this one as under your administration, the register has been all over the UK and not just restricted to those who happen to live in the South ;-)

Thanks also for all the PP articles which I have thoughoughly enjoyed reading over the years and which I appreciate must have taken a great deal of your time to prepare.

Just because you now own a Maclaren, shouldn't stop you from having the odd centre-spread article in PP...I for one would much rather read about how your getting on with that than pages dedicated to some tenuous link between a certain Italian marque and aeroplanes ;-)) Very nearly cancelled my subscription after that one !

Anyway, enjoy the Mc and very much hope to see you again some time. All the best, Doug.

Hi Gary Jo

I must say what a stunning car, sorry to hear you are leaving the register.
Looking forward to the next season of drives, the mclaren will look so good in the 997 line up.[:)]

Great looking car Gary, I hope it lives up to all of your expectations. I think you have done a fantastic job as RS and I have enjoyed any of your events that I have been able to get to. Thanks for all of your hard work for the Register over the last few years.

Terry

Nice new motor Gary, and yes you are still a member, we aren't letting you go quite yet, and not without a fight!

Now thinking about it shouldn't we be campaigning for a register for those who have crossed to the 'Dark Side' yet will one day surely come back ?

Jill and I would like to echo the sentiments of previous posts and say how much we have enjoyed the 997 register under your leadership!
The drives and weekends away have been excellent and well chosen whilst your support for club events has been 100%- a difficult act to follow!!
The new toy presumably is to scare the Frenchies on the Arras trip and something to look forward to...

Andy

Gary
Sorry to hear you are hanging up your spurs as 997 Register Director_I speak as a relative newbie to the Club and we only met recently at the Beaulieu day, but from what I have seen on the forum and in PP, the 997 Register has been fantastically active and engaging under your stewardship.

Although my Porsche seems to have seeped into my DNA since ownership, I think you've bought a fantastic dream car. I was lucky enough to get do the VIP tour of McClaren Woking in August and see the 12C's being assembled, geometry tested and painted - and a row of the new Spyders. I thoght the factory was a fantastic cross betwen a cottage industry (hand craft) and a space station.(space craft).
Ps all I came away with on that visit was a goody bag and a lousy lapel pin!!!
Look forward to seing your comparison when you've covered some tarmac.
tony

So come on then, don't keep us all in suspenders...first impressions on the 12C (so we can all dream) ;-))
