Turbo's gone, long live the Turbo

Doug
Sadly, I've become a garage queen [;)] and it's raining quite a bit ( I was aqua plaining in the van earlier!!)
That and work since collecting has been mayhem- I ended up working though the night last night! [:'(]

I'll type up a initial response post later- back off to Birmingham for my sins

Adore the colour, well done quite a car and after having owned 2 Ferrari's (and never again) its the only car I would consider other than a Porsche , I hope you enjoy....stupid me of course you will !!!!!!! ps not sure I would want to park it anywhere though

I am concerned about the parking- for the first time in my driving career!![&:]
The call was either this or the 458, the sound and usability won towards the Mclaren

Saturday it stopped raining in the afternoon, so I got a hundred miles in the driving seat, very happy with the choice so far...

Well, it certainly looks good and Jo looks almost smug! Still sorry to see you both leave us though [:(]

Wow !!!

Gary, that is bloody lovely !!!

A proper super-car and I would guess having 600bhp, quite an event to drive [8D]

Congrats again, life is too short not to do this kind of thing if your means allow.

Gary

Its lovely a bit different to a Ferrari and probably more useable in the long term.

Caroline and I would like to add to the sentiments already stated above, since joining the 997 register we have made some great friends and enjoyed many weekends away both socially and driving wise. We would like to thank both Jo and yourself for making us welcome and feel part of the club. This has become our number 1 social pastime and something i really don't want to disappear. The 997 register is clearly the most active in the club and long may it continue.

Your parting gesture must be to find us a suitable replacement someone with equal commitment and passion. There are now lots of 997 owners (many of them Turbo's) looking forward to weekends away where, with likeminded people we can exercise our pride and joy and build on what is more than just a car club.

Good luck with the car and hopefully we will get a chance to see it soon in the flesh.

Thanks again for all you have done to make the register what it is today.

Geoff & Caroline

Gary - The new car looks lovely - congratulations!

I know that you have done an enormous amount for a great number of people, during your tenure as 997 RS. You deserve many thanks for that.

Looking forward to seeing the new car!

I'm jealous Gary! Fantastic choice of car and it's not a bad replacement for the Turbo [:)] Congratulations!

I do remember you mentioning the itch at the Trout back in the summer for the Mc. Anyway, I'm sure our paths will cross again and I look forward to seeing you both (and the car very soon!). And if you want to do a Euro roadtrip next year Louise and I will be up for it (as long as I can keep up!).

All the best
Simon

Well done Gary- what a great machine. Sorry for this late post- I've had a bit of computer trouble and just caught up! Only this afternoon at PEC, having spent the day driving the whole of the Porsche model range, I was encouraging a Turbo S owner from Tunbridge Wells to join the 997 group on one of your legendary trips saying how fortunate we are in having you and Joe as such active organisers, not knowing that you had given in your notice! Your enthusiasm and commitmernt to the successful running of the register over the years has been greatly appreciated by us all and as has already been said- will be a very hard act to follow. I'm sure you'll now have much fun with your new toy and I look forward to seeing the latest interloper and his wife in November. Only the weekend before last as I cycled along the Normandy coast passed the landing beaches and cemeterys I was remembering the brilliant trip you organised a couple of years ago- when you had difficulty walking with your bad foot, and were forced to sit in your car whilst the rest of us visited the various sites. Many thanks to you both. Mike.

Gary

Been quiet on the forum as been working silly hours in diffrent continents. So apologies for the lateness of reply.

Absolutely fabulous looking car, it would be on my dream list to own. What a colour cobination as well - Fab. As you know I like blue.

Obviously now I'll need a remap to have a hope of keeping up with you, or maybe a remap and new induction system or maybe.............

Our thanks to you and Jo for your tireless work on providing so many great events and trips.

We appreciate just how muich work goes into the background to make the event appear to run so smoothly. it will be an incredably hard act to follow. so many great memories of great drives, views and locations - the part of the day in last years welsh trip when we got, ahem, seperated from the group is indellibly etched into my brain as the best expereince I have had driving a Porche - such great raods with such a beatiful landsacpe around us that we had time to appreciate [8|][8|][8|]

You do need to drag the Macca out on Future drives so we can appreaicte and drool over it in equal quantities.

number plate to follow car looks stunning
My plate was finally fitted to the car today and I almost feel its mine now [:D]

On other news, I know people go on about colour options and useage versus cost..
Well those that remember my Turbo would know it wasn't the standard colour combination and sometimes this can be a concern and I was pleased that the dealer took a chance on the car on the trade in...
Well it looks like the gamble was worthwhile for the dealer and after having the car on the forecourt for less than a fortnight my car has gone to a new owner.
Apparently after something different from the normal...[;)]
The salesman commented that it was one of the loosest Turbo he'd driven and thought it was a flier- so maybe it was after all [:D]
Again showing the Porsche comes alive with use...[8D]
I popped around to the OPC on the way back and was surprised to have a warm welcome from the service team who asked was that your car in yesterday as they only knew of the one in that combination (It was due an MOT and service)
So, I still believe its worthwhile spec'ing a car that you want and not what the dealer wants you to have...

goodness know if Blue will sell though [&:] [;)]

Fantastic looking car Gary, by chance you did not have an orange macca on demo recently? only these cars are rare to see in our neck of the woods[;)]

Cheers JP

JP, I had the black one for demo[:)]
The dealer test drive route is towards Hatton and then the outskirts of Coventry back to the dealership.
Quite spoilt having one so close..

I've been through Coventry in it -but to mainly get to the Shell station [;)]
