Tyres Tyres Tyres??!!!

Ok i phoned up my local tyre garage today for a quote on four new tyres.I only have roughly 1000 miles left on the others before they become illegal.Anyways thought about having all round Pirelli tyres seen as Porsche actually recomend them. The sizes are 225-45-17's on the front and 255-40-zr17's on the rear. After a lengthly trawl through his stock catalogue he came back with the price!!! The full lot will cost me £520 quid fitted!!! All i heard was the sound of my arse hitting the floor and the sound of my mates laughter in the background!!! So my question to you all is do i really have to fit Pirelli's to my 944 or can i go a little cheaper??? I know your gonna say you get what you pay for but come on!!!!! I thought he was joking about the price at first!By the way the car has Pirelli p6000's on the front at the moment and "Stunners" on the rear
Thanks in advance

I fit Avon ZZ3's to mine and they're great, I have them all round on my 911 as well with no problems, plus shopping around a bit on the net you'd be surprised how much cheaper you can get them, then just find a trusted fitter who can put them on for you.

Have a look here

I get all my tyres from them, great prices and next day delivery [;)]

Without wishing to upset Nick - his is the only praise I've seen regarding ZZ3's [&:]

Toyo T1R suit the 944 very well, and (although I've never used them) Falken FK452's seem to get universal praise and are used by many on here. Even cheper than the Toyo's.

Camskill however are excellent - have been using them for years. You'll get a local place to fit them for as little a £7.50 a corner (inc balance) .

Funny you should mention the Falkens! Ive just got all four corners in my Camskill's basket for under £300 delivered! That is a bargain compared to my local tyre "stealer"!!!!

I bought four Toyos from Camskill for £260 (but for 16" wheels) and they seem a good tyre.

Having had Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s on other cars I'd say I prefer them (but it's hard to make a direct comparison on a different car) so next time I'll try F1s on my S2 or Asymmetrics if F1s are no longer available in 16".

What about Kuhmo tyres? I had some fitted to our lasses Laguna 2 and she's never complained about them.I know its not exactly a Porsche but he they only cost me £200 fitted for four!

Wow!!! 2, 255 40 r17 toyo proxes £176.56 delivered!!! They are on offer at the mo for £85.83!!! Fantastic. Many thanks for that link[8D]

Mind you, the Falken FK452's are only £161.10 delivered. Hmmm, choices choises. Which is the better tyre?

Stu

I have the Kumho Ecsta KU31's on both my cars and find them an excellent all round tyre.

However, next time round I'll be trying the Toyo's after the almost universal praise from 944 owners who have them fitted

Depends on how you drive I suppose!! Had them fitted to two 944s before the 911 and now the S2, never been any problems so I tend to stick with what I know [;)]

In all fairness there are some cheap tyres out there with great reviews.Just been looking at Stunners now online and they come in at £60 a tyre.I have them on the rear now and they do grip but are quite noisey too!

[FONT=Arial"][FONT=verdana, geneva"]Fitted Toyo's to the front and waiting for the P9000s to wear out on the back before replacing them with Toyos as well. Definite improvement on the front, grippy and much quieter too. Many on here rate the Kuhmos too.

Because the cars new to me i dont want to buy any old tatt but the Pirelli quote nearly put me six feet under today! I'll have a good shop about for some that cost a bit but not £520!!!!

Another recomendation for the Falken FK452,s...[:D][:D][:D]
Good all round tyre, at a VERY good price...
I used to swear by the Goodyear GSD3,s. For a 944/968, but as they are no longer made. ill be swopping to the Falkens soon....
I have a set on my BMW 330i... [:D][:D]

Right, Falkens it is for me[:)]

I have just been reading lots of user write ups about the Falkens and what really impresses me is that almost all users state how good they are at the limit. They give very good feedback as to when they are going to break traction. They dont just suddenly lose traction,,,, they let you know progressively how good/bad traction is so make the car much more controllable. And they seem to last very well too.

Im going to order mine now[8D]

Interestingly I heard this week that they are "the" preffered tyre for the drifting community for exactly that reason.

Don't let that put you off though. [;)]

I had Falkens on my S2, very good. P6000s are pants.

As for pricing - I just had to fit a new tyre on my BMW - £335, for one tyre! Which had only done 2000 miles and got a sodding nail in it. £335!!!! []

I had a bad experience with the Toyo T1R. I had a pair of rears fitted on 16" wheels and the sidewalls were too soft, resulting in the rear axle never being firmly planted on the road and bouncing laterally at every little input in the steering. Driving was positively dangerous.

Another vote for Camskill Tyres from me.

Just to be different [8|] I bought some Vredestein Sessantas off them following a excellent report on them in Evo magazine.

Very good in the wet (ie most of the way to Le Mans this year [8|]) and they have also done two trackdays, with just slight 'feathering' to show for it.

Very progressive breakaway wet and dry.[:)]
