Upgrading lights 1990 944

My Rayne Automotive headlight loom turned up yesterday and I'll fit it tomorrow on my day off. First impressions are excellent, great quality and far better than I'd have achieved cobbling it together on my own.

I'll get some pics as McNulters is always banging on about "how-to's".

Well, Mr Woodypeck.com has failed to come back to me - silence of the lambs it seems. As I associate poor communication with poor service and products I will try and find some suitable LED main beams from another supplier.

Back to the start then...

That's very disappointing,I was looking forward to seeing/hearing the results of his headlamp conversion kit.

The Headlights use Halfords superbrights with the Rennbay wiring kit.
Indicators, front side and stop/tail leds are from Tore Bergvil as used in his 993 kits.
Stop/tail was achieved by using a double filament socket from a VW T2 Bay in the brake light socket

Adjustable headlight option allows the headlights to be tipped lower - 3 settings - 0 (no tipping) for driver and one passenger, 1 (a little tipping) for driver, passenger and some luggage, 2 (more tipping) for driver, passenger, back seat people and perhaps some luggage. This is to put the main beams down some when weight is added to the rear of the car so you are not blinding oncoming traffic.

This is implemented by motorized plates to which the headlights mount and a rotary switch in the console such that the side of the knob rises out of the console (similar to the dashlight brightness control) with three markings. When the rotary knob is operated the headlights tilt down.

An elegant solution but one that limits your options when upgrading lighting as the headlight bodies that go along with this have three substantial metal tabs integrated with the body that use specific nylon adapters to fix them to the adjusting screws - one of which is the stepper motor that provides the adjust-ability.

Bruce thank you, your post made me go outside and look at my lights, my levelling has never appeared to work and now I know why. Its turns out I am missing both motors, and now I know what the three pin connectors are for.

This frequently used to happen when the adjusting type lamps needed replacement. They were extremely expensive compared to the earlier type, so people frequently fitted earlier frames and non-adjusting lamps to save money. Then, the frames were next to worthless.
