VJ is up for sale

As the deal is done, and I'll be picking up my S2 in about a week I'll be putting VJ on the market in a couple of weeks. Just a toe-in-the-water here in case anyone is interested before the general public get their chance to bid. [;)]

As most of you have known the car for years I'm not trying to hide anything. The car has been displayed at nearly every event over ther last 5 years, is currently the PCGB website front page photo and was in the recent 911 PW front-engined special. It's no fun listing her faults after she's been so good to me! This is a brief rundown, once I've given her a prep and gone through the paperwork I'll be doing a more thorough advert so there might be the odd minor error here.

1986 944 Lux, c. 135K. Private plate included, 968 mirrors are not and are sold. Tax and MOT until December.

Guards Red, very tidy black logo seats, uncracked dash. Teledials needing re-furb to laquer, P6000s so no wear but they are going to need replacing at some point due to age.

Masses of history, you'll need to read through it all, including belts about 18 months ago with rollers, oil seals etc. Water pump was deemed fine, I'd change it at next belt service.

Engine seems fine, oil pressure correct and uses negligeable oil. Gearbox is as noisy as they all are.

Little niggles; clock broken, armrest hinge broken, blower resistor needs changing as it's not the contacts, sunroof opens fine but doesn't come out. C/lock only from passenger side, mirrors need a new switch. Think that's it!

So, why selling? Well, partly because the new one is a steal. Mostly because it's time VJ had some work done if she's not going to become a tatty car. If I was keeping her I'd budget for the following:

Both sills, rear wing bottoms and possible tidying the front wing bottoms but not looking bad.

The front 2/3rds was resprayed before I bought it. There is the usual stone-chipping, a scratch on the front N/S wing and a dink in the rear N/S bit where the Porsche script goes. The c-pillars are showing the first signs of fading as they weren't resprayed.

I would do a proper job on the bodywork and a full respray myself, bringing the car back to imacculate. Of course, that will cost the thick end of what I'm paying for the new car as I'm getting such a good deal. This swung it for me as I do no work myself (other than the armrest hinge [:D]) and it's time to move on to the S2.

If someone can get the work done cheaply or DIY it then it's a decent starting point. If you want a car to run into the ground it'll do that and then the interior, mechanicals etc. will sell for what I want for her.

Anyone interested please give me a preliminary call on O7971 83278O, evenings and weekends please.

Paul, It'll break your heart to sell the old girl, surely? Hope you get a decent price for her. I'm sure she'll make someone a very nice bargain bit of pork. And all the best with the S2 as well ... you'll enjoy being able to show the turbo boys a clean pair of heels when you want too ... [:)] Oli.

Oooh look a pig flew past with Nick riding it.....[;)]

Hi. I am quite interested in the car, as i am looking for a Lux. Where do you live, as wouldn't mind coming for a look? Thanks Becky

Hi Becky, I'm in Rickmansworth, near Watford. Moving in a fortnight to near High Wycombe - it's all go here! [&:] I'm out tonight, but in tomorrow evening if you want to call.

ORIGINAL: RJones Will definitely give you a call tomorrow….what kind of time? 7ish?
7 or after is fine, happy to have a chat and show you around the car even if it's only a "what to look for" discussion. [:)]

LOL:ROFLMAO: Anytime, well except this month as I have sorned it, but it will be back next month, will let you know next time its likely to be in the London area - so you can avoid me Tony

Congratulations on your new S2! How long till we can tempt you into the dark side of Boost addiction? We have found the S2 with a cat bypass and a decent chip will show improvements in throttle response and midrange power.. You do make peak improvements on the dyno... although not as good as some would have you believe, as they say on medication containers.. results may vary ) Good luck with the sale of the Lux.. Although its almost criminal what a lux sells for these days (too low in my opinion), especially one thats well maintained... However, having said that, I still get some customers turning up who have just bought a lux and have paid strong money for a good lux. So try and get a good amount for her!

Jon, Do you tend to have anyone around on Sundays? Since I'll be just down the road on the 31st I thought I might drop in and see about going a bit faster!! David

The Maf was the biggest gain for me, throttle response so sharp you can cut yourself with it [:D]

Lol - you'll never get me in one of those turbos. I've been around long enough to learn that they are a bit like golf; no-one is ever satisfied and they keep pouring endless amounts of time and money into them. Regarding the S2, I found no lack of mid-range power at all on the test drive. Coming from a Lux, and a diesel van that pulls from rest in 5th, it was the lack of low-down power that genuinely scared me a couple of times in Peter's "S". I'd quite like to run it for a while, then do the chip and de-cat thing. I would do it as a back-to-back dyno test, on the same day on the same dyno. Would anyone have the confidence to supply the parts knowing it'd get a write-up in the magazine though? [8|] There's been a lot of interest in the Lux. I guess because I'm not asking silly money and the car is well known. I am keen for her to go to a good home, it's a good car that I'd have happily spent the money restoring had the deal on the S2 not been so good.

ORIGINAL: sc0tty Paul, When you complete the move to Wycombe please come along to the Region 19 meetings and events, it would be nice to see another 944 owner !!
I say, Great Kingshill rather than "Wycombe" if you please! [;)] I should be able to make the odd R19 event, but I'm not a regular at the R21 events despite them being ten minutes away. Personally I get far more out of the Register meets than I do from the local region. I will be continuing bringing up the rear at the R21 karting events, and may persuade some of you R19 wimps to join us! [:D]
