VJ is up for sale

ORIGINAL: Peter Empson
ORIGINAL: Indi9xx We have found the S2 with a cat bypass and a decent chip will show improvements in throttle response and midrange power..
The Maf was the biggest gain for me, throttle response so sharp you can cut yourself with it [:D]
Chip and mid-silencer removal (I don't have a cat) is something I should be quite keen on. Snag is that last time I drove an S2 with this work done it felt significantly less frisky than mine; I guess that's saying that the differences between cars is possibly greater than the difference made by such mods. MAF is a bigger job, and significantly more expensive isn't it Peter? Oli.

Hi Oli, yes it is more expensive but for me the gains were worth the cost, although I'd suggest a rolling road remap afterwards would be the best way to capitilise upon all these mods. My car has got better with every mod (the only one that was a negative was when we had too short a pipe length after the air filter when we lost torque).

ORIGINAL: pauljmcnulty it was the lack of low-down power that genuinely scared me a couple of times in Peter's "S".
Lol [:)] Once you get your head around the gear ratios then it's not a problem, but it does take a little seat time to get there. Pulling out of junctions into fast moving traffic is its only real stumbling block. I would love to try a non 944S gearbox in it as I'm sure the shorter gearing would really help it.

Now looking very shiny on my drive:

Crumbs Paul. Is that small oil spills or moss in your drive? Either way, you need to do something about it. It doesn't look good. Oli.

Grass. This weekend's job, although we have exchanged contracts on the house so I could just leave it for the new owners....[&:]

You'll need to move that 944 if you want to do the job properly. Is it an S2? I hope you're not planning on buying it - the Turbos are much better. Oli.

Lol - do keep up old chap. I have bought it, 2 hours ago. [:)] Bought it because it's better than any turbo, albeit slower than the Lux as it's not the proper colour. [8|]

HALLELUJIAH! Well said! Good lad - that's the spirit! (For the avoidance of doubt, my last post was entirely in jest. And I don't want anyone, ever, to use it against me. OK? Good.) Oli.

First impressions, having done about 100 miles on roads I regularly drove the Lux on. It's quicker, but not dramatically so. Having had lots of spirited drives following Rick and John, with aroud 350-400 HP each and uprated brakes, suspension etc. in VJ with her 150 HP or so and P6000s, I was often having to work at keeping up - understandably. It'll be interesting to see how much more relaxed this car is, with more power, all new tyres and refreshed suspension. The big difference is that no-one looks at the car. A red 944 does get attention; sometimes the wrong sort, but more often than not I felt it had a presence. That's really lost, driving something that is almost camoflaged against the tarmac, and I've started spotting Citroen Picassos and Ford C-Maxs in an almost identical colour. [] Sooo, mechanically it's a no-brainer for what I paid, and the immaculate leather is lovely. Visually, I'm seriously tempted to keep VJ for the odd day that I want to drive a proper Porsche, a red one. [&:]

I noticed this when I first got the red 944S, the Alpine white blended in by comparison and I found I got more hassle in the red car. I must have got used to it now as I no longer notice it and it's now reversed as the white car provokes more of a reaction (thankfully of the positive kind), it's also excellent at clearing the overtaking lane on the motorway [:D]

I think that's half the issue here. I always had people get out of the way in the red car; usually with a wave, mostly five fingers, sometimes two and occasionally one. [8|] Driving the metallic-tarmac car I'm invisible, and even got a "thank you" from a row of cyclists I overtook yesterday. [] There's also the strange feeling of pride I always got every time I walked in or out of the house, or passed a front window, that I had a red Porsche on the drive. A grey one just doesn't get the senses going in the same way. Don't get me wrong, the new one is a better car; so it should be, as it cost a lot more. Just that after five years of living the dream in a red Porsche I've got to accept that the next five will be in a slightly anonymous grey one. And, I'll not be spending so much time worrying about it turning pink. Swings and roundabouts! [:D]

Waved goodbye to VJ this evening....[:(] A very sad moment. It was buying that car 5 years ago which got me into the 944 community, then on into the PCGB, progressing into Register Secretary and then administrating you lot on the forums. [8|] On second thought, why did I ever start this? [:D][:D] Hopefully Stuart, the new owner, will be along here soon. Please make him very welcome!
