much the same comments have been made on Porsche-1 forum and Ian Hicks (chaiman of Tipec) has taken the trouble to respond...........
Hi All, many thanks indded for all your positive comments about WH. I also thought it was a fantastic day. By the way I just loved all the photos in the gallery. Chris, my favourite is the one over the lake, deffo a publicity shot for the club, methinks.
OK, here's my take on some of the criticisms, all of which are gratefully received. ............
1. The venue.
I think Walton Hall is the best venue for a Porsche event I've ever been to, it's the right mix of location, accessibility, size and layout. Chris and Cinders were there Saturday evening, I was there Sat a.m. and Sundaya.m. rea early. It's an awesome place! And the management are very kind ot TIPEC in repsect of set-up access, and cost.
However there are a couple of limitations:
2. Catering
As part of the deal, we have to let WH handle all the catering....... except for one ice cream concession all other catering is managed by the Hall. Sadly, theres nothing TIPEC can do about that, except advise you all to bring pic-nics etc, which judging by the numbers, some had. I remember last year, the club got a little ear-bashing because Dunlop had brought their Dunlop Cafe to the event and were serving coffee!
Sorry about that, but I think it's an "allowable weakness" compared with the upside of having such a fantastic venue.
3. Car Parking
We can never really predict the number of cars attending, it's so dependent on weather on the day. This year we organised overflow parking in the "non-porsche" parking....... this was a change from last year and I hope went some way to allieviate the issue of late-arriving Porsches having to park next to the Mazdas, the Vectras and the Skodas.
4. 911 parking
On parking management, there were three people who would recognise Porsche models. I can tell you between 9.30 a.m. and 11.00 a.m. we struggled to sort out the display cars from the concours from the Porsche parking. So if there is a group of about 6 911 owners who would volunteer to segregate the 911, 964, 996 and 997 as they arrived in the Porsche parking area, then I'm sure we would be happy to have the 911's parked by model
5. Cabrio display parking.
Same thing applies, It's really difficult to predict display parking. Until people turn up on the day. Take this year, at 10.00 a.m. we had one 912 and 2 914. it's impossible to judge how many of each type we will get. Hence the mixture of car types. Anyhow I rather enjoyed walking along a line of different car types
6. Porsche-1.net gazebo next year
Absolutley, yes please. Like Chris said, it just needs a handful of you to set the thing up and to man it
7. Relaxed organisation
One way to interpret the lack of organisation of 911 parking, cabrio diosplay parking etc. is "relaxed approach". I think that is a key attribute of WH, that is is relaxed, and there is time to do stuff. I know that many of the traders and other s said that's another part of what makes the event so successful. I know I would prefer a relaxed extent that something that is organsied to the miilimetre and to the millisecond. But hey, that's jsut me!
Thanks again, people, for the feedback, keep it coming and let me know about the group who will volunteer for 911 parking management and we can sort it out!
