Well, it's goodnight from me......

After a year in a new home, building a new life with work starting from scratch, with new relationships and new friends, I finally made the decision to part with my car. Friday I put some feelers out, and this morning it was picked up to take the long journey to it's new home. I hope it has a new lease of life, and that it continues to be one of the well-known 944s that's seen out and about at events. I can't even begin to tell you how smooth, swift and helpful the deal was, and all credit to the buyer.

Whilst I'm not going anywhere, I'm not realistically planning to buy another Porsche. The salty air down here, the lack of a specialist within a good two hours, the narrow, filthy country lanes, and the tractors coming the other way forcing me into the hedges, it all puts me off tackling things like the bodywork and the belt service the car was due. I also get less opportunity to meet up now: Rutland would realistically be a two-night stay in a hotel, 700 miles round trip, and 6 hours each way!

The last 14 years have been incredible. I've made life-long friends, had immense highs and lows, some glorious drives out, and some of the latest nights at the bar I can't remember. I've always said that Club membership adds so much to the pleasure of owning the car, and I hope the 944 Register finds a new spokesman who can move it forward and give it the enthusiasm I've lost a bit in the last year.

I love this forum: I genuinely think it's the place the 944 community developed, which has now grown to so many groups on places like Facebook. The UK owners, and often the people who've been here for years, are more often than not the most sensible posters in groups where there are members from all over the world.

I won't be so active, and saying goodbye to the Register and the forum admin role does hurt, but I also know that I've only been able to do this with the help of so many other people. Thank you all.

Enjoy your cars, drive them all year round, and keep supporting the Clubs that help keep them on the road. [:)]

Well that's news I never expected to read or hear!

all the best for th future Paul, and I am sure I speak for many 944 owners present and past - Thank you

Know the feeling, said goodbye to my Turbo in November after 10 years of 944/968 ownership. Time moves on, good luck with whatever you choose to do next.

Sad news Paul, you have done a great job a good community here of which you have been a major part of.

Where has your car gone to ?

What a wrench this must have been after all you have put in over the years. All the best for your future plans, you must remain active around the forum for everyones sake.

Steve

All the very best Paul,,,,

i wish you a happy and healthy future,,,,

warm regards,,

I also had a similar scenerio moving from the Fast Dual carriageways of Milton Keynes to North Wales

with a Wide ass 928, it was just not ideal on the lanes at all not to mention difficulties having to widen the 1930's

driveway at my house so it had to go!

I did however return to Porsche ownership 2 years later, as I'm sure you also may? miss the tinkering

and the classic agricultural, mechanical, and soul that these cars give.

Good luck with your new ventures,

R

Thanks for everything you've done Paul - keep in touch with us all..

I bet you'll be back though [:)]

Paul. I wish you well and must thank you for your help and support over the years.

I hope that you find something to replace PCGB as I have.

Good Luck.

Geoff

Good luck Paul....where about's did you move too?..we plan to get out of London soon...I need to be sure not to go near to where you are as the car is coming too...:)..we need to get out as it's not many years away till our cars won't be allowed in London or in fact any major city......the days of the internal combustion engine are coming to an end, hopefully not in my lifetime but who know's what devious plans are afoot....

I wish you well mate...atb

Paul,

That post was a sad one to read, and must have been significantly sadder for you to write. I'm very sorry to hear that you have parted with your 944 and are now Porsche-less.

Stay in touch - via the forum and any other means. You'll be sorely missed if you don't.

Oli.

Without your PCGB admin hat on you wont have to be as diplomatic here. Can I borrow £50 :ROFLMAO:.

Sorry to hear your car has gone, and you with it.

Thank you for all you've done to raise the profile of the transaxle cars....you'll be missed.

(A thought....might a Porsche tractor suit your new business......?!)

Paul who?

From one yesterday man to another ...great times ... golden memories.

Having experienced a 944 in country lanes I have to agree they are rubbish in such surroundings. What you need is a nice Land Rover or, better still, a not so nice Land Rover.

So what can we tick?

Ace Cafe

Many nationals camp fires and too much beer

Donnongton

Brightons

Porsche & Polos

Isle of Wight

Conferences

Brands Hatch - beer, exploding air beds and wrecked brakes

Silverstone - sun burn, dried chillies, track laps, Cup,Cup,Cups on the M1

So many Cotswold and Heritage Rallies

Front Runner

Parts falling off on the M25

So many miles looking at the back end of Wuff

Radios

Getting totally trounsed by an X Type on the way to Cornbury House :)

Sian & Rich's wedding

Jon's wedding

Ruttlands

So many "But I'm a member!", "This is a brand new Turbo surely you don't expect me to park there?"

As a great mate, at almost every PCGB event I can remember, I can't imagine an event without you.

Your dedication to the Register, and the Forum, is second to none and I am rather chuffed at my part in conning you in to taking on the role. I hope "The Club" will recognise your contribution in an appropriate and suitably generous way.

A Club isn't about numbers, cars, balance sheets or image it is about people (and "they" would do well to remember that). You and I and Tony, Rick, Nick, Jon, Geoff, PSH, Fen, Perry, Barry, Martyn, Sian & Rich, Mike, Treff, Peter, Mel, Len and so many others were those people. We will all remember you with great fondness, even if in six weeks others go "Who?"

We may no longer have 944's or N95's but we will always be "Brothers in Arms" ...except for Sian who will be a sister.

Pete, I'm now in Cornwall. When i was in Truro it was different, as it was feasible to get to someone like Andy Moss with trains and access to the A30, but I'm now a good 40 minutes further down the country, and it's just too much of a hassle. Cornbury House is now 5 hours each way, Silverstone probably 6 hours: it means overnight stays added to the cost of travel, more days off work etc. To me, there's little point having the car and not getting to the events. The car's always been more about the people to me, and the great friends I've made here remain great friends. John's post above gives the smallest of insights in to the sheer amount of fun we've had over the years! [:)]
