what did you do to your 944 today

Today I replaced my hatch pins and mounting blocks
The pins were seized in the blocks ( not the block itself but the threaded block within) and thus couldn't be easily adjusted, nor could they be removed from the original mounting blocks. I had bought new blocks a few years back in preperation for the upcoming respray so only needed to buy the pin kits. Good job too, IIRC those blocks weren't cheap.
The blocks are held to the hatch frame by two csk allen head machine screws which were easy to remove. I did hope to renew the thin rubber seal which runs between the blocks under the hatch but all the screws bar two are seized solid so left this till another day, perhaps best done when at my son's with his vastly superior tool kit.

After some trial an error checking for how tight I could get the hatch to close, I settled on a measurement of 24mm between bottom of mounting block body and top of the pin taper end.
It feels good, 23mm was too close resulting in poor holding down of the hatch.

Pictures of before and after

That's another job ticked...🙂

Pete

Haha...now that it has an agreed value with Lockton's no chance of being buried in it...wife has other plans..🤣
If my old man had put as much time and effort into a car, I'd have wanted to keep it when he passed.

New Textar pads fitted to the front. Replaced a set of Mintex M1144's that were very squealy at all low speeds and very brake dusty at any speed. It turns out a race/fast road pad is not for me. New pads are bedded in, seem good, and are oh so quiet at any speed. Got them for a bargain ÂŁ40 delivered on Ebay. Had Textars before I done my brake upgrades and they are a decent pad and never make any noise. Very happy again slowing down at the lights without dogs ducking for cover.......... :ROFLMAO:

Finally got round to taking my dash apart and fixed the odometer, new cog, all sorted. Also fixed the dial lights, led bulbs and replaced the reflectors. Wasn’t anywhere near as bad a job as I had been dreading!

Did you know which cog to buy before you took the binnacle out? My understanding is that different cogs were used? Or is it just oval dash vs old dash?
Hi, no I took a bit of a punt on it, the majority of people said that the most common, certainly for the S2 is the 20 x 23 gear and thankfully it was the right one. I took the view if I took the dash apart and it was the wrong one I would just then order the right one and return.

it was nowhere near as bad a job as I thought it would be, if I can do it anyone can. If you want to know anything please ask.

Mark.
