Hi. Could anybody give me a rough guide to how much this cars worth, its a 73 2,4, not sure if its a E,T, or S, its a sportomatic, and a targa in silver, but look closer and you can see it as been purple, and a check with the DVLA and its still is purple, but sthis spray job as been done some time ago, and as filler in a few places, i have photos but cant get them on hear yet, but i don't think the pics will help, coz it looks very nice on the pics, and everybody who as seen it says it looks nice from the pics. So it a 2,4, sportomatic, targa. All the DVLA list it as is a Porsche 2341cc. thanks

Without a lot more info its impossible to say whether its worth £3K or £30K. We need to know the VIN, engine number, is it L or RHD, how much history, the options fitted, is it rusty etc. etc.

its RHD, Its got rust at the bottoms of the doors, and the panel gaps are a bit big in some places, it as had a recon box and as a lot of service history, so the dealer says?

If its RHD and has rust in the doors its got to have rust everywhere! Sorry to be a bit negative, but I do know these cars. Next thing is it a T, E or S?

Perhaps another way of looking at it is - what do you want to do with the car? I'm not sure if you've ever owned an early 911 - but the first thing to explain is that they're mind numbingly expensive to restore - and what Nick is pointing out is that if it's got *some* rust on it - it'll likely have rust everywhere.

Assumigng she's NOT an 'S' (which is very desirable - from memory only 43 or so RHD 1973 2.4S targas known) - a 73 2.4T Targa, restored might be worth £25k - £28k? An 'E' maybe touching £30k - an S more like £35k+ depending on condition, originality and provenance.

So then consider what it's going to cost to get it to that stage? RHD Targas are rare because they rotted so spectacularly - also, the Sporto is an acquired taste (I'm a massive fan, as is Helen on here) - but the market doesn't like them so it might be worth a couple of quid less.

IF it's a ropey RHD targa - needing extensive corrosion repairs and correction to dodgy panel gaps - it's not worth very much I'm afraid - because it'll cost a ruddy fortune to restore []

you mention "dealer" so im presuming its for sale via a dealer..what price has he put on it ?
before you jump in and buy a early porsche do some homework on the cars, go along to meetings and talk to owners, drive a few. visit diffrent dealers, keep an eye on their their web sites as well as sites like pistonheads, and also the for sales sections in the porsche magazines and your soon get to know more about what your looking for and what price your going to have to pay...please take into concideration the running and repair costs too.
these cars come with no garentees. and always cost more than you budget for.......but, boy oh boy they are worth it in "Grin factor"alone.[8D]

oh and another tip.. before you put your hard earned down on a car, get someone like Nick Moss to give it a full pre-purchase inspection..it will be £250(ish) very well spent.

Sorry did i say dealer, I mean garage not OPC. Its listed as a 2.4SE? Its up for £5495, so i thought it was either a dog or a bargain so i thought i'd take a look. i drive a 944, but planned to get a 3.2s boxster for my 30th birthday in 2yrs time, but as i was a bit stupid (and drunk) and asked my partner to marry me when on a weekend in york last week, she's set the date for 2yrs time, so that kinda screws up my boxster, so i'm now after a 911, and yes this will be my first 911, but not sure what to go for? i like the SC, but i dont mind doing a bit of work on it as i have my own 8space garage and access to the tools and parts off the shelf.
