Whats your Daily Driver..!

Alpina D3. 200bhp, 300lbft, 47mpg. Absolutely amazed by it's capability for soaking up the business miles - but I still prefer to get in the S2 at the weekends!

Cayenne S,makes a great noise and is comfy as you like[:)]
Very impressed with the interior in those, really nice quality and nice seats. Actually it is the over-riding impression or memory I have from the Cayenne.

I only have the TDI now because the RS6 is in a whole new league of running costs; 17.5mpg on the motorway (not even 20mpg like the computer says), 19" tyres which are a lot more pricy than 17" ones, expensive very specilaist (as in main dealer) servicing and I'm on the depreciation bandwagon with it.

Bloody hell, Fen. That's less than my Rangie - I can get just over 20 on the Motorway !

Perhaps you should buy one to tow the RS6 ?? [:D][:D][:D]

Why didn't I think of that?!

It'll be getting an outing to Silverstone on Saturday I expect - that should do £160 or so in V-Power I guess...

You should try my Landcruiser for wallet emptying.........................and its a diesel [&o][&o]

Daily driver - 944T.
Balanced, Quick, fuel efficient, compact, not too "loud", cheap to buy, depreciation proof, reliable, cheap to run, safe, self servicable, 4 seats, luggage space, active forum full of ideas, steers like a ballerina, capable of embarrasing 911's, evo's, v8's, M's & rice rockets I think you call them, how could we drive anything better?

This is my daily driver [:)]
85, 000 (s)miles so far [:)]

My daily driver was due to be replaced (but only because of space and expense of running two cars) by the 944 turbo, but as that was pulverised by a little stone wall, I am back in the 1988 Saab 900 Turbo every day now... which is good as it's a lovely car, but also bad as it's not a 944 :(

On the up side, I can sleep in the back of this beast (I'm only short)

brings back memories, mine was an 84 with the intercooler from a 9000 aero and my own custom fabricated pipe work, custom moded exhaust, my own spec springs (wound for me by coil springs in Sheffield), koni adjustable shocks, modified cylinder head with mixed cams all done by my brother during a cylinder head rebuild / replace.Loads of other stuff I can't remember

Anything less then S2/turbo would have been a huge let down after that beasty.

mmmmmmmmmmm, sounds like a bit of a beast Neil. Mine is on konis (dunno what springs) and got the deep dish 16" aero wheels (not shown in pic), a big fat 3" zaust (not as chav is that might sound) and a little extra torque than standard ;)

goes and handles very well indeed for something with such a cavernous boot!

I know this is going way into non-pork territory but I still hanker after a nice late 900 T16 possibly a ruby. There was one for sale down in Devon a little while back for £3K.

I got the 9-5 on the back of loving that old 900, the 9-5 is much more modern and quiet and has a plush ride but it never feels as stable or missile like or tank like as that old 900 did, and it still has a rubbish gear change and odd oil leaks.

I used to get my racing bike in the boot without having to take the wheels off! I did consider once getting a short matrice or whatever to put down and with the rear windows flipped out a little would be ideal for camping in, in the summer.

Interestingly a few guys on here have a thing for old Saabs, maybe its because they are a bit different like the 944, and also of course because of the long heritage with turbocharging. Shame that in recent Saabs the only real Saab bits are the engine and seats, amazing coincidence that those are the best bits!

I've never owned a Saab but have considered it several times. I always fancied a 900 Carlsson.

^^ Cough, sorry to contradict but I believe the new saab engines are Vauxhaul blocks as well... oh and the turbo's.

B series engines in the 9-5 based on a design that goes back trough the 9000 to the 16v engines in the 900 T16 way back in 1984. Current GM/vauxhall/opel turbo engines are AFAIK GM based mechanicals with SAAB developed turbocharging and engine management. Probably explains why current vxr's have really good engines whereas junk like the calibra turbo where just pants. Apparently SAAB is now the GM worldwide centre of excellence for turbocharging and 4wd.

3 litre diesel that was fitted to the 9-5 was an Isuzu engine ISTR. Sounds like it should have been good but ISTR loads of problems on those cars.

2.2 litre diesel was a GM piece of junk. Well known in Saab circles to steer well clear of the 9-3ss with that engine.

1.9 litre diesel is AFAIK a fiat/alfa engine with all the same good points and bad points i.e. gutless low down, tiny power band but smooth, economical and generally regarded to be pretty tough.

AFAIK the 9-5 still has all SAAB petrol engines but the 9-3ss has never had a real SAAB engine either diesel or petrol.
