Wheel Centres

OK guys - hands up - you've got me. I have never considered the positioning of the wheel nuts / valve / centre crest - but I will now.

Francis Tuthill have just done a 12K service (miles not cost !) and fitted new wheel nuts, as one of the locking centres was missing. They do not lock, but have a different socket that you have to fit to remove them. They are by the valve (good) but the crests still need to be rotated.

Richard - the colour coded crests look great against your black wheels and red paint.

hi ian, just take off the wheel and push the crest from behind then refit in line with valve.

jason, im not sure if you used a flash when you took the picyure but some of your nuts (Wheel) lol, look a little silver / worn paint. i had this with mine a couple of years ago when i enterd the concours at eynsham and what i did was repaint thm useing satin black paint, when dried i then used a bit of polish and they came up a treat.
done the same with my wiper arms.
steve
ps, ian was your picture taken at eynsham in 2003?

Hi Richard,

I agree with Steve, your wheels look better with the crests. Here is a picture of my wheel with a crest on  "¦unfortunately the cap from my locking wheel nut is missing. [:(]

As a result of the weight of opinion, I 'bit the bullet' and decided to go for gold. The coloured logo centres are no longer available from Porsche AG so I've ordered from http://www.porscheshop.co.uk/ - don't come cheap do they!

I also had a locking wheel nut cover missing. Found it floating about in the car. Sometimes you gorra be lucky I guess! It had lost it's 'snap' so it's held in place with double sided tape, but hey, who's gona know. Ooooooooops, shouldn't have said that!

My [original] centres, have two small holes, and there is a [Special] tool available which will 'grab' the centre and allow you to remove / rotate it. A good substitute, used with care, is one of those little double pronged jobbies that come with some in-car tuner / cd units, for their removal!

i have the same holes in mine, forgot all about them until you mentioned it, you could use a pair of circlip pliars.

My Avator picture was from Eynsham in 2003 - first club meeting after I purchased the car in Feb.

Ian - Don't think I could cope with a 'meet'. Couldn't handle all those enthusiasts pointing out the defects in my beautiful motor!

PS - Re. My Avatar. I'll need to have another go at it. It seems to have deteriorated somewhat in the reduction process I notice. It's gone kinda fuzzt ant'it! Try enlarging this ............

Hi Richard,

Your car looks good ...I like it in Red. [:D] I'll have to find a picture of mine to post!

Never mind putting the spare back J. Ponder on this guys. If you were unfortunate enough to suffer a puncture, particularly in a rear tyre, and managed to get the 'spare' fitted and inflated. Where the hell are you gona put the one you took off? Would it go under the bonnet, in the passenger seat, on the back seat ........... ? I guess I could manage it on my Cab. If I jacked the hood open first!

The 911 is about as practical as a .................... roller skate! Lovely init! Yep! Call out the AA.

R.

....and your right about the spare {lol} Id imagine the original wheel should fit in the boot at the front with the tyre flat.

Go here http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe and install this image resizer tool. (if you are running Windows XP) You will then be able to rezise it to 145 x 145.[;)]

I'll need to remove the set of Golf Clubs first though eh!

Reference the link, that's a no go at the moment. I'm driving the iMac. I can resize my original ok, using other devious means. It was when I uploaded it that it went all fuzzy!

Jason - Can I assume you are aware of the significance of my statement?

Hi Richard,

To be on the safe side ..what is the significance of your statement? [:)]

ORIGINAL: Richard Savage

Jason - I couldn't raise anyone e-mailing Porsche Centre Swindon - my nearest centre - but got a response from Reading. I'll bell 'em on Monday and order a couple. £1.54 + VAT. Hell, I'm finding maintaining this Porsche of mine expensive!

Excellent news ...don't forget to show your PCGB member card in order to claim your 10% discount. Look forward to the pictures of the wheels with the new shiny crests![:D]

Porsche 911 Story - Paul Frère - Page 12 - Paragraph Four - 2. It was to have more adequate luggage space, big enough to carry golf clubs - a requirement often expressed by customers.

Jason - I'm not a PCGB Member. However, if I was, and I dropped into Porsche Centre Swindon tomorrow, and ordered a new 997 [ Aside - Not that I'd want one! ] could I flash my card and get 10% discount? Hey, that would buy a set of golf clubs or three!

R.

Jason / Steve - Thank you both for your complements, you are gentlemen!

After I'd ordered from PorscheShop I recieved the following e-mail:

Dont know if you have already purchased yours but was looking on ebay today and saw these and remembered your thread, they seem cheap to me, here is the Item number: 4556793971
Regards
Nick

That put me between a rock and a hard place. Put in a bid anyway but finally decided that with the addition of the coloured annulus they were a bit overstated. I'm happy with what I got!
