Which Alloys Suit the 944...

To date I've managed to resist putting new wheels on my car, trying to keep outside as near standard as possible. I do however like the split rims not sure on name but they do look very similar to the BBS in your picture. I'm not a fan of later model wheels such as boxter. A friend of mine had 17" cups on his 220 turbo which I thought ruined the stance of the car... and they rubbed..lol Like everything it's all about personal taste[:)][:)] Pete

Which Alloys Suit the 944, apart from the obvious D90's

I'd love a set of these BBS E50'S

Cup ones look well too

Any other interesting Combinations? pictures too!

I personally like the modern wheels - I think the 944 has enough curves to handle them. Cup 1 are hard to beat (though not particularly modern) and the modern 5 spoke twisted alloys also suit- especially the 996 turbo wheels. Rick Cannell has the straight thin 5-spoke wheels on which look nice too. Personally I can't stand those BBS wheels pictured above - the rim looks too fat and the interior looks too small a diameter - it makes the wheel look like a much smaller diameter to my eye. I don't think the mock cross-wired look suits the 944 anyway. I'm also not a fan of the Fuchs - but I do like the new Fuchs on the latest 997 ducktail. I also like D90's if they are painted a different colour other than silver. And the GT3mk1 split rim wheels also look nice (as per Appleton's old car). Again though it's down to personal taste. Live and let live!!

I think the early cars can look good on those smaller BBS wheels and other similarly aged wheels, and are less suited to more modern wheels (in fact I've often felt my Cup Ones are a little out of place on my white car, but until I get some BBS LM's they'll have to do). To my mind S2's and Turbo's definately suit more modern wheels. Saying that I also love Fuch wheels on a 220 Turbo, which by my reasoning above shouldn't work.

I dont like the multi spoke designs either - generally but I did see an oval dash one with gold centred Fondmetal(?) wheels which looked great ! Good job we are all different eh! Mike

Spinners, in chrome! Joking aside I quite like my teledials but am still on the lookout for some reasonably priced design 90s!

16 inch fuchs from the early 911s with anodised rim and colour coded centres - looks the nuts

Same here, they look especially good in the Turbo deep dish/16" but even the bog standard 15" are great. I'm also rather fond of cookie cutters too [:)]

16" Teledials or 17" Cup 1's are my faves. Not really a fan of BBS's or D90's and in general I think 18" wheels of whatever design can look oversized on our cars, but each to their own and all that. [:)]

I didn't like these at first but they grew on me - car at back 996 C4 (s?) wheels - they are my track wheels now - not ideal as they are heavy. Fronts dont fit without a 5mm spacer Tony

Worth doing a meet there again? Looks like a cracking place from that pic. Back on topic, Club Sport 16" and the Fuchs on the early 944s. Cup 2s also look great. My Carrera wheels have grown on me though, and do make it look a little more modenr

Stopping on that bridge wasn't allowed, so the only way that picture could have happened is if the lead car had broken down and we'd all forgotten how to use reverse. Yes, the more I think about it the more I'm sure that's what must have happened [:D].

Hmmm, handbrake spring failures planned for next time are they?[;)].

I've got 17' Cups on my 220 turbo with nasty cheap tyres on. the car tracks like mad and feels a bit shit. Don't know if this is down to the size of the wheels or the nasty cheap tyres...... like the cups though and i think they suit the car.....

+1 for Fuchs . I saw a red 944 in the car park at Derby station this morning - D plate with black / silver Fuchs looking great. I've had these on for a while & I'm not quite sure whether I prefer them.- currently back on Clubsports

They're not 996 C4S wheels or the standard C4 wheels, but look fine. C4S wheels were the same design as the 996 turbo wheels and of a 5 spoke twisted design, but were heavier as the spokes were solid and not hollow. The 996 turbo are my faves. Simple and elegant.

Have you changed the castor bushes for the later 968 style ? If not try it, it should help with the tramlining once on 17"/18" rims Mike
