Why's everyone selling their 993's?

Anyone else notice all the 993's for sale in the last PP? Usually you get more "Wanted low miles C2/4S" than actual cars for sale. Is this a knock on effect of the 997? If it brings them into the reach of more enthusiants then good I suppose (bad if you just paid 43K for one).

they are 'currently' holding their value before the full effects of the 997 take place.....[:-]

i cant say that i've seen many 993s (or at least decent ones) offered out there....

996 prices are melting quicker than a chocolate fire guard though...

993 is the ULTIMATE 911... period... is the 997 worth TWICE the price of a decent 993??

no.

Je pose ma valise!

Can't say that I agree either.

I would also say that there is generally a lack of really 'decent' 993's for sale.

I think with typically a small number on offer it is easy to misread the market from a single issue of a single magazine. I also noticed the last issue was mostly C2S and C4S for sale but there have been issues were Targas were in the majority. I wouldn't have thought PP was representative of the wider market either.

My observation is the market has split into two. Lots of average cars selling at average prices where prices seem reasonable and continue to fall as expected. The other market is the lower mileage / pristine cars which are becoming harder to find by the day and are attracting people who want a classic, but a modern classic, to keep and are prepared to pay over the market.

keep your 993,,,

will always be the last of the air cooled cars !

my thoughts and sorry if this upsets anyone,, but the 3.2 carrera was a great car and these can be seen at prices above 964's,,,, and the same is happening with 993's and 996's,,, good 993's will command more of a price than early 996's,, partly due to less of them being avilable...

997 is very cool though,, but my thoughts are that 993's will hold their value well,, and especially low mileage cars in excellent condition,, as they will become harder and harder to find..

future classic ! if not already !

scottie... C2S

Can't say I have noticed a surge of 993's up for sale. And another thing, what happened to the bloke who styled the 993, cos the styling on the 996 was awfull and sadly the 997 is only slightly better. Maybe they used the same guy who styled the cayenne. That would explain everything.

My original post was somewhat tongue in cheek and if you couldn't tell from the tone, I should've made use of one of those smileys. Neither was the post a thinly-veiled single handed attempt to cause nationwide 993 price-crash, just because I want one, although if that did work I would only have to sell the 911T and the A class and... Seriously though, I agree with most comments, the 993 will always be held in high regard, due it's uncompromised build quality, fantastic shape and of course the fact that's it's the end of the aircooled line. In my opinion there is no 911 model I'd rather keep forever and use regularily. Perhaps some 993 owners (those who have the resources to buy a brand new car) hung on to their 993's not convinced by the 996 - are now ordering 997's bringing a few more cars onto the martketplace. From what I have seen 993 prices do seem to be firm @ c35K for S's, 30+ for Varioram & Targa and 25-30 for pre-Varioram cars, although there are fewer 40K S's around than there were. I'd like a Turbo, but how will it be before we see sub-40K examples?

Lastly, how about this, what if Porsche were to sell the 993 today alongside the 997 as a 2005 model - of course they wouldn't & couldn't anyway due to emissions - what do you think they would/could charge for it?

If the two were alongside, I'd buy the 993 (assuming the same original 993 build quality). Same price.

I have now owned my 993RS for 6 years and it has covered 28k miles.Over this period I have watched its value fall in the late nineties,as the996(Gt3)appeared, and now over the last couple of years increase steadily again.
During this period I have been offered good money, on a number of occasions, but have never been able to bring myself to part with it, simply because it is the best car I have ever owned.
Now that the new 997 has arrived, what is the concencus of opinion on the long term values?

Regards
John

I see no reason why the specialised versions of the 993 will not stay steady to increase over time. there may be a small fluctuations with respect to the economic cycles. Having driven a 997 S it is a good car,,,but very refined, you jump back into a 993RS and it is like a go-cart on the road....as good as it is, it has very different characterustics to a993 and I do not see it as an alternative.

I also had a test drive of a 997S today and can report that it is a very capable/clever car. It's almost two cars in one, flick the 'sport' button and it changes from a casual GT to a very firm, very quick road car. There is also a sports suspension option available that will probably make it even firmer. All good news, great progress in the development of sports car? .............. NO! It's exactly like driving a good M3/M5 or similair.

Souless? ......... Yes!

If I do end up changing my 993 I think I would be more tempted by a GT3 than the 997.

This is a interesting topic, I feel I am among the few, regarding the 997, I think its to early to judge the 997 whether it's a good or a OK car. You have to remember the air cooled had over 30 years to prove it self, I'm sure the water cooled will get there in the end.

When we talk about a car not having "soul" are we talking about safety electronics in the car e.g. PSM etc. taking over the controls of the car. There are some first generation Turbo owners who thing the 993 is soft.

Be honest guys/gals how many time have you been driving and you feel very tired from the journey....I find the 993 very tiring sometimes especially, when I just going from A to B in slippery conditions.......And yes I am a 993 fan and I would never change it for any other car [8|].....I guess I'm lying now, because I would if I could afford it change it for a 993 Turbo, 996 Turbo/GT3.

I love the 993 but I'm sure a time will come when I will want a change , BTW this is my second 993.
