A very good safety investment but worth sticking them on a spare set of wheels for ease of switching over.

Got even more interesting when Mr McN's car decided to start trying to shed bits of the metal (fuel pump cover IIRC ?) while I was slithering along behind it. [8|]
My S2 wouldn't start (only one of two times I has let me down, and both because I had failed to turn the lights off.) I ended up borrowing a friend's Focus to jump-start mine, and missed the RV with people at a North M25 service station. Arrived at Cornbury House in thick snow, did the tulip run in thick snow, and drove on to Shropshire and then North Wales in (surprise surprise) very little snow at all.
Thanks for the memories!

Yep thats the one - least the Cotswolds looked glorious in the snow ! It also all melted pretty quick of course whereas round these parts at least it has barely gone at all at the moment and all the side roads are still treacherous. 944 safely tucked up in garage !

I bought a set of EBAY wheels about 5 years ago that came with brand new Dunlop Winter Sports and they were absolutely awesome in a thick downfall across the midlands that very same winter. Many 4wd cars on normal rubber were stuck in my companys sloping car park, but these tyres just bit in and I drove 4o miles home in heavy snow - it was fantastic.
They didn't have metal studs, just very wide grooves with a very boring tread pattern and obviously a compound of rubber designed to grip in sub zero conditions. Even though the compound was soft they still lasted a good 15,000 miles of normal weather conditions before they wore out. They were pretty good in heavy rain too, but from memory they were only H rated up to 120mph - so no problem in our country [
You really do need constant snow for them.
Wish I still had a scooby, the xc 70 got to many clever electronics for fun. Ensures you get to work just fine mind, anyone want to buy it lol

Three bags of builders sand and 6" rear wheels cured most of my problems, other than the BMW drivers. How hard can it be though, if I could drive my car about in it?

And as one of the few porsche club members on here, I am more entitled than most to comment on posts.
Hmmm. I'm not a member of the PCGB and I sold our S2 some time ago. I still like them however (although I currently hanker after a facelift 996...yummy yummy), and still post on here to share my experiences etc. As this is a public as opposed to closed forum, I believe any forum member is entitled to comment on posts sir.

Wouldn't it be dull if we all liked the same things. [

I believe we all have a right to an opinion, some oponions may carry more authority than others on particular subjects or at a particular time.
Your ability to pay a membership fee probably does not add or detract from the authority by which you hold an opinion....

You see Sc0tty, the fact that you do pay that membership fee is nothing more than a financial transaction. No, I am not a member here, but that does nothing to ill-legitimise my opinion. And it's an opinion I am happy to share, and an opinion that often is shared by many on here. I always try to back up my opinion with facts, and I am happy to listen to others' opinions when they differ - and to modify my opinion accordingly. I also attempt, whenever possible, to put my opinion pleasantly, so that if people take offence they may take offence to the opinion rather than to me.
You, on the other hand, seem more than a little quick to resort to insults, and not terribly pleasant ones at that. Many here will remember the "pi*ss-taking retard" name-calling episode of yours. And also that somewhat second-hand ASCII-art picture of yours, on the same thread; all within the last few days. Your comment, addressed to me about three or four posts up (which you at least had the sense to edit), refers to my car as a 'Banger'. A bit strong, as I am sure many on here will agree, given that you have no idea what my car looks like or what sort of condition it is in.
I note also your use of the prefix 'Old' in front of 'Banger', and would observe that my car is an '89 model - as is yours. As our stateside cousins would say, 'You do the math'.
You also wonder whether I will be "such a smart arse when you find myself stranded in your [my] old banger in a ditch." I dare say that, when that happens, you'll have the pleasure of judging my smart-arsed-ness first-hand: given that ditches are where trolls are known to reside I shall endeavour not to run you over when I arrive, but please be forgiving if I accidentally catch you a glancing blow with my old banger. That'll be the old banger that is being used as it's manufacturer intended (remember that Porsche offered a comprehensive range of snow chains and other winter accessories for the car) rather than the ornament that is deteriorating day-by-day in a garage.
I'll leave you to think about this opinion of mine which I have shared with you, and others on here. Please let me know if it's unfair - as I said, I am quite happy to discuss my opinions and revise them when inappropriate. However, any such discussion will have to wait for a couple of hours, as I am about to remind myself just how good my S2 is, and just how superb a job those Neckarsulm engineers did of the 944 chassis - something that can be best done from a different seat to the one in front of my computer. Something that, according to you, I must be 'mad' to do. Maybe I am, but if so, it makes this a forum of certifiable asylum patients.

Happy Christmas to each and every member of this forum who've contributed, in whatever capacity from silly question to expert knowledge, from polishers to stripped-out trackers.
And, to all the people who read the forum but don't post. You must wonder what people are taking sometimes. [&:]
Here's to next year, may it be as exciting as this year but please let's start it the way we will be carrying on; by stopping the constant sniping?
Have a great one, and thanks to everyone who gave up time to help this be the busiest year for the Register in my time with the Club. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. [
