200 MPH TOP SPEED RUNS (VMAX)

ORIGINAL: Brett928S2
To run 850 hp or 1350 hp.....I "NEED" 850 OR 1350 ..EXHAUST capacity...i.e. BIG ...OPEN pipes...

"Shurely Shome Mishtake..."

The bit about noise / power is potentially pseudo science Brett...

There are many engines that produce this sort of power (and more) with tolerable noise levels - and legally.

Here's one:- Bugatti Veyron. That's a luxo-barge with 1000hp and it positively whispers along. Could you imagine the sensitive ears of our good German cousins allowing it to waft along the autobahn making over 120db ? With open pipes ?

There are some Citroen Saxo's running up and down every high street in the land with open pipes. Is this "pure power" or simply someone who has been suckered by Max Power ?

I've spent a good part of my professional / technical career in the automotive industry and my company supplies ALL the F1 teams, WRC, Moto-GP etc with some pretty whizzy kit.

I'm sure you're a very practical engineer and sense in you, the passion of Drag Racing (who cannot fail to be impressed with 2 TF's or FC's giving it the big gun). In all my 35 years of Drag Racing, like many, we've seen some quick motors that looked slow and some really doggy motors that went like a scalded cat. One that was worth seeing was a well tuned RD400 which was posting in the mid 7's ! For a "silly little twin", that was giant killing. 400cc shaming the very best that the GXR's / Z's etc could offer - you couldn't make it up. (I love 2 strokes though).

Good luck with the venture

"...more power Egor ! The storm is at it's height..."

"One of the major problems of using nitrous oxide in a reciprocating engine is that it can produce enough power to damage or destroy the engine. Very large power increases are possible, and if the mechanical structure of the engine is not properly reinforced, the engine may be severely damaged or destroyed during this kind of operation."

Hi Steve :)

I agree with all you have said.....and it IS possible to run huge hp quietly...But only if you have Bugattis budget..which I do not...

Most of my money goes on Dynotime,Electronics,Parachute etc and various other mechanical parts...e.g I am still undecided for my 1000 hp system whether to go for 8 solenoids at £175 each = £1400 or 16 solenoids at £2800...

Plus the Nitrous of course, of which I get through enormous amounts lol [:D] ( I have used 82 lbs of liquid Nitrous in the last month alone :(

The cheapest way to get exhaust gases out of an engine in on headers alone....as you know :)

Take any TopFuel Dragster or Funny car and all they have is some curved headers generally...

Mine isnt quite that bad...although I did consider it....lol....for about 30 seconds as my car is my daily driver :)

So in essence...my attitude is....the money I am prepared to put into this is miniscule compared to Bugatti or RUF....so I am afraid noise levels are a long way down my list of priorities :)

All the best Brett :)

out of interest Brett, considering the amount / cost of the N2O alone, nevermind the additional kit, have you considered the supercharger route along with internal engine mods?

Hi James :)

Yes I did consider it at the outset, but when I was a Race mechanic we used huge superchargers all the time, so it would have been easy and therefore no challenge..

The reason I use such large amounts of Nitrous is for "testing" etc....no road car on Nitrous could use that much...

Also Nitrous gives such HUGE hp increases....a superhcharger alone could never add 1000 hp for example :)

All the best Brett :)

Interesting factoid... an F1 engine running at max power would only just be able to run the engine driven supercharger of a Top Fuel engine.

Perhaps, the solution (Brett) is to use a diesel engine in your 928. Just take the Napier deltic engine (2 stroke, supercharged diesel) and you'd have all the power you ever needed. It could also double up as a train, thus making the daily drive a little bit more interesting*

*(especially when it comes to cornering..)

Surely it would corner like it was on rails? [:D]

Ah !, maybe he should use one of our KV Major diesel engines

V-16, twin turbo and 10,000 hp !

Only trouble is, you could fit a 928 in its crankcase.

Intersting Gary. I used to manage a company involved in the servicing of diesel engines / UPS's etc and was once getting insight into what out technicians actually did whilst working.

Anyhow, one time I recall being in the sump of one engine, pumping out hundreds of litres of oil for it's service.... and then hand carrying all from the top of a building in the centre of london. Oh yes, they earned their corn for sure.

Who's diesels do you sell ?

These were monsters - 4 turbos, V16. When we did a full load test, the exhaust glowed so red, you could actually see the gasses running through them

Hi Mark :)

Good find :)

Horrible colour though...

Imagine adding Nitrous at 257 mph...lolllllllll

I would try it but im nuts anyway :)

All the best Brett :)
