3 litre 944 Turbo on track

Patrick

-- I've not touched the KAAZ lsd at all, just used it straight out of the box !! and I confess plenty of ignorance on the subject, so probably need to research it a bit more. The only thing I did read somewhere is that the lsd plates need to to reversed for use in a 968 transaxle -- don't even know whether that is right and have just assumed that Kevin at EMC knows his stuff when he installed it (which he does!)

NB When Ben's lsd was checked and refreshed 3 months ago, it was quite worn. So was wondering how well it was functioning on that Oulton vid ?

Paul, sounds like the sort of level I get involved in my tech specs...[:D]

I have been running a unit produced down under with my 5 speed (w S2 r&p) 951 'box. Brand called Mondena. Have been running it in the 60/80 setup. I wondered about the supposed increase in understeer with something like this. Especially on the road. I have to say that it was never an issue on the road, however I did have understeer in slow or tight corners from time to time on the track. The problem for me is how to distinguish what is the cause of this. As we know most cars are setup with a little bit of understeer in mind. Our transaxle cars can suffer from too narrow a front tyre as well, plus any number of suspension setups that could be the cause. After a lot of wasted time and money we discovered that my ride height was too low and was compressing into the bump stops too much in those types of corners. A change to a different type of spring plate (Racers Edge) remedied that particular woe. However it's hard to know unless you are a really diligent researcher and log everything, have a lot of experience, or know someone that can assist in matters of the dark arts.....either that or have buckets of cash to form a team and have them all do it for you!!

A bit more from Roger at CMS.

"I misunderstood about the LSD. Indeed the Modena units are available in a 60/80 configuration or shall I say with 60/80 ramps and with 4 clutches - 2 per side. It's a high quality diff that has been on the market for a long time and a trusted product within the Porsche circles. They aren't exactly cheap though. For lot less the KAAZ offers excellent quality and performance. I personally think they offer a much better wear rate over time as I have never had to rebuild one or replace parts in one yet. Been selling the diffs for about 6 years now. The way I'd term the recommended setup is 45/90, with 3 active clutches per side.

On the billet side plate for the 968, not sure on the cost but would probably be similarly priced to our GT3 billet side plate in which retails for 499. Pic attached."
