So there we have it, details of the national event to celebrate 50years of Porsche club have been announced.
The main base is the Royal Agricultural college in Cirencester.
The are hotels locally and there should be camping available on site too, so should cover all requirements- I'm up for a BBQ and camp fire into the early hours [:)]

Friday 2nd Sept 2011

Track event at Castle Combe
The idea is to have an "inclusive" event that will allow all members to have a sample of track time at a smaller cost than the normal days.
Idea is to split into 1/4 day sessions. This should prove cost effective and is aimed at Novice, so hopefully we can have a 997 get together on track.

Saturday 3rd Sept 2011

A twin-centre day. With Silverstone Porsche Driver Centre being the main centre of activity on the day, but also The Royal Agricultural College Cirencester coming in to play. Those who have finished playing at Silverstone can enjoy the rest of the day at the RAC or those that are not interested in Silverstone can just enjoy the RAC side of things. - activities ongoing at the RAC will b announced but potentially look to be great.
In the evening planned is the usual "Gala Dinner" open to all or hopefully a BBQ in the grounds.

Sunday 4th Sept 2011

The main event at the Royal Agricultural College Cirencester and highlight of the main 50th year.
Taking place at the RAC, plenty of the usual stuff, huge display from Porsche Cars, trade stands, Register Parking (if desired) and so on.
From Porsche cars, hopefully something similar to what they did a Goodwood!! [:)]

There is also planned drives from location to location organised by the club.. some great roads around there too- although some at the workers conference didn't seem to want to drive their cars [&:]
Hopefully something for everyone of us, so but it in your diary now..

I knew there must have been a good reason to move close to Castle Combe[:)] Looks like an interesting approach with something for everyone.

Will you be doing Dinner, Bed and Breakfast Peter?[:D] Nice little earner potentially there.

Looks like a fun 3 days

Yup, very reasonable rates but bring your own sledgehammer and hard hat and join in the restoration fun[:D]

Hopefully a great weekend of fun and activities...[:D]
I have my tent at the ready..

That reminds me, we've got a marquee somewhere packed away, that could house a few..

For the 997 Turbo owners...

It is a while since we have had something specific for owners that includes all variants of the 911 Turbo.
For our National Event this September Barry Smith has agreed to, on the Sunday, a 911 Turbo Pride of Ownership Display.
This will be a ' half way house ' between a model display and an informal Concours.
Open to all model years of the Turbo and suited to owners who enjoy the ultimate driving experience together with keeping their cars in presentable shape.
We are looking for a total of 25 cars and you must pre book your space. There will be no need to stay with the vehicles and an informal appraisal will take place during the day. Prizes will be awarded for the 3 best presented cars.

Let me know in the first instance of you'd be interested.

After Castle Combe on Friday and Silverstone on Saturday I don't think mine will do very well in the "pride of ownership" stakes! Nice idea though.........for the polishers and waxers.[;)] No doubt you will be entering yours though Gary?[:)]

Mine will be tucked up in its summer cover back at home, well away from any chance of getting dirty- as always [;)]

Hi Tim and welcome to the forum and the 997 register.

Porsche Post seems to be the place with most info at the moment in particular the booking of accommodation - if you need it. The booking for other events has yet to happen but, according to PP, should be available sometime through April. Watch this space as they say.

Also keep an eye on the register events throughout the year and hope to see you at one or more.[:)]

PS - to get your status changed from "guest" to "member" put a quick request here

and someone from admin will be along to sort it![;)]

The workers conference is in two weeks time, I would hope and imagine that more details will be announced then for us to pass onto the members.
Apart from the hotel details being announced in this months Porsche Post, all the details I have are in the original post.

I did see mention of contacting Steve to take part in on the Castle Combe day..
More details and plans as the information is announced or I get them..

Gary, I had noted my interest in putting my turbo s in the mix on the Sunday for this event via another part of the site weeks ago through a register under the 930 turbo part to a chap called John Ward. I didnt hear anymore though.

Are there any slots left to join the display?

David

David, sadly John is not organising the display- Its Paul Keeling
If you email events@porscheclubgb.com then Carol will be able to update you on the display, I'm aware of only one other person who has requested information of it.

Well hopefully everyone has got their magazine and seen how to book.?
If not then I can send you the details...

I've booked my 3 day pass already and secured two of the Goodwood tickets [:D]
I think it has the potential to be a great celebration, I know a few have already booked the track time sessions and parade laps...
Although you may have read the Register directors comments that he's awaiting for his phone to ring, I can assure you I have sent him some ideas that I've had- I did email them though [] (so no phone involved!!)

Being as no more Lemans for me this year, I'm tempted to camp and enjoy the BBQ and possibly a 997 central...
As more details come through I'll try to keep you all updated.

I have put my name down for the Sunday display if there are enough others interested, it should happen D

Normally the 997 register comes up with some inspirational ideas, so I'm looking for them again..[:D]

What would we as members like to see on the Sunday at the RAC, what interests us as modern owners?

I have had a think about it but I may be way off the mark, what my suggestions included some things for the family as it is proposed as a family show..

Andy has volunteered to do a presentation on the membership experience over the last 30 years, I'd like to see Porsche cars contribute a response along with Andy to give an oversight of their view from the past 30/50 years, I think it could be both humorous and educational to all.
The venue does have plenty of indoor presentation space, so it would be a shame not to make use of it- especially it its a wet day [:(]

I did throw the idea of a fashion show for the club shop and possible tie up with a local outdoor clothes retailer, again ideal for something different and weather cautious.
Temporary Tattoo artists rather than face painters... seems thats the thing for kids and dads alike [:)]
I did also mention the idea of a 'Sporting Bears type rides' where other members/attendees would make a donation to charity for a passenger ride in different cars..
We could both provide and participate?

I'd be interested in your comments and ideas on these plus anything you think would add tot he overall scheme of the event...please bear in mind that the racing/motorsport part of the celebrations are supposedly taken care of on the Friday and Saturday...
After looking at the Dads days out event recently, there's plenty to do!!

How about running a couple of fairground type stalls? Possibly entertaining for most, if not all, of the family![:)]
See here.
