718 Cayman GT4 is here – at long last.!

Production wasn't limited last time, and they said the same thing about the 991.2 GT3. In reality, it's limited by the capacity of the factory so the bun fights will continue. I'll take a yellow Clubsport with steel brakes and as much interior carbon and alcantara as you can fit, please

Excellent choice, and no you can't have my car - sorry! [8D]

...and here is a 992S on the same circuit with the same driver. Cup2 tyres on GT4 would make a difference but net still a good comparison of torque and traction v braking and mid-engine

Lizard Green?

That's more like it Ralph! I presume it's a one-off management car?

The current colour choice for the GT4 and Spyder is a bit lack-lustre. Maybe there'll be a PTS option later on in the build.

Jeff

Porsche builds non-standard finish vehicles which are used by management. They are used to test in-service wear and tear and the cars are available to buy after circa 20k km/18 months. You can advance reserve these vehicles, I think I posted on this some time ago as I was looking for a non-PTS special colour 911.

I know that Ralph, I just meant this picture looks "tweaked" - the lighting doesn't seem quite right for the green to pop like that...

Dave,

I think that any picture you see online or elsewhere very rarely reflects the "true" colour (if there is such a thing, bearing in mind that as individuals we probably view colours differently). That's why it's important to try to get to see the car in the flesh, both indoors and outdoors, to make a judgement.

Jeff

I know that as well Jeff. I'm saying that I think it's not a quick point and click pic - it's been manipulated. There was a 718 GT4 pic recently that had had a similar treatment. It could have been a white car that's been changed (for example) is all I'm saying.

Yes, I know where you're coming from Dave. Modern rendering software is incredibly powerful ... makes you wonder if you can believe anything you see in print these days..! [;)]

Posted elsewhere on the forum but here's a possible solution to the those moaning about the lack of aural content with the GPF-equipped 718 GT4 and Spyder:

https://www.jcr-developments.com/jcr/product/718-gt4---spyder---titanium-valved-race-pipe

A bonus from the GPF fitment will be reduced sound levels for track use, but JCR claim that their optional Titanium Silenced Tips "reduce sound levels by a further 6-7dB ensuring that all owners who plan to use their cars on track will have no concerns about excessive noise levels on strict track events."

With the introduction of the 718-series Porsche chose to make the Caymans cheaper than their Boxster equivalents (about time too some would say, given the increased parts count and complexity of the Boxster's hood mechanism!).

That position was reversed for the 718 GT4 and Spyder. However, for some unknown reason Porsche have chosen to include the Sport Chrono option as standard on the Spyder whereas it's a £336 cost option on the more track-focused GT4. Not exactly joined-up thinking from ze Germans ... or is it just yet another way of milking the punters..? [A rhetorical question of course!]. Apart from the really dedicated track-warrior, it seems to me to be a rather pointless option, and the analogue clock blip on top of he instrument panel looks a bit of an afterthought.

Certainly aligns with recent experience from `local` OPC`s ...

Judging from the huge number of Macan`s & Cayenne`s out front, the days of the sportscar are over !

Its business I'm afraid whatever sells will be pushed. All OPC's will be expected to generate more profit, more sales and more cash year on year.

Its just as well Porsche produce such quality against the competition taking the state of the motor industry at the moment.

From an OPC business perspective all the cars are just a commodity, a widget and while you need to be passionate about the brand you also need to be able to stand back and be objective about the business. The corporate world is unforgiving often with unachievable objectives. Where would Porsche be today without the SUV's. I'm afraid the big VW corporate entity does not look at us passionate Porsche owners and our cars in the same light as we do. Its big business with big expectations and also big issues take dieselgate as an example.

I think we should just be grateful that the sports car still exists in a world of emission reducing, safe the planet thinking with vehicle monitoring, speed control and driverless cars just around the corner.
