Looking good Dave ... I see they managed to source and fit the belts in time for collection.

Nice pic of the cat; made its stake already - as usual..! [;)]

Good to read something positive amongst the gloom and doom. Keep us posted on progress.

Yep, the brackets turned up the day after I was told they hadn't arrived. I was gutted they weren't going to be in the car for collection, so I was made up when they were [:D]

The weather's been pretty awful but I got around 75 miles in yesterday, including a stop for a pub lunch of course! The car is fabulous, but sticking to 4k revs for 1800 miles is going to be hard going - the engine just wants to go...

Looks amazing in Yellow with the bucket seats 👍

Is that the advice for running in ?

”keep below 4k revs for 1800 m ?

Beautiful car - congratulations. I hate to see that cat on it though. It's natural reaction if slipping off a high gloss surface would be to stick its claws out and scrabble to stay where it was.

These things happen, I'm not too bothered about the odd minor scuff and scratch. The car already has a couple anyway and I'm sure it'll get more. You can't be too overly previous about these things otherwise you'll drive yourself mad. It's been bought to drive not polish [:D]

Lovely car David. Yellow suits the GT4 perfectly including the cabin trims. Good photo with the cat!

I am also a strict running-in proponent. It pays high dividends later, although I agree it's a test of self-control meantime.

Enjoy!

Brian

Isn't running in a car part of getting to know it ?

I'm not sure about keeping it below 4k up to 3000km ... I would have thought that by 3000Km the engine should have been ready for some serious work to complete the running in process ... of coarse on a progressive basis ... easing it up another 500rpm every 500 Km ??

Been for a gentle spin tonight. I agree , it takes a lot of self control. The engine makes some interesting noises at low revs 🤔. There is a booming noise low down .

Maybe its when it shuts down to three cylinders ?

I don't think a cat would stay upright on mine with the ppf 🤣

So I guess the running in period will be the same for the GTS4.0. Something to do whilst self-isolating, I suppose but no more pub lunches.

Graham,

I think you'll find that 4,000rpm/3,000km is the standard Porsche-recommended running-in procedure, for the sports cars at least. Whether or not owners choose to follow that recommendation is down to the individual, but since over-revs are recorded along with drive-time I think that I'd be very wary about driving the car extra hard for the first 3,000km. At least it would avoid potential arguments about warranty infringements at a later date.

Remember also that it's not just the engine and transmission which need to bed-in, it's all the other components including steering, suspension, brakes and tyres.

As someone whose car has collected 40000 miles of stone chips in 5.5 years I'd say that was a healthy attitude... I still don't provide seating space for cats though. [;)]

Ha ha - fair enough!

There is no "issue" with the sound for me. In these modern times I'd rather my car sounded great in the cabin while driving (which it does) and doesn't p*ss off everyone around me with a shouty exhaust like a badly modified hot hatch. It's now much more socially unacceptable to have a loud sounding car today, which is a shame, but it is what it is.

I loved my 981 GTS and the exhaust noise it made but the times they are a changin'...

Here's an interesting option for those choosing the full bucket seat option next year:

They're expensive enough as they are at the moment, so I wonder what the premium's going to be for these?

Jeff

It's going to make buying a used car interesting if the first owner ticked this option. I assume the inserts can be changed but replacements will have to factor in to the trade-in and/or purchase cost.

A bit like PCCBs, they seem to be trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist in a road car

I totally agree. I used to get scowled at my loud exhaust on the 991 GTS and was getting more conscious of it recently.
