Haigh Hall,now R18's annual event instead of Woodvale is on Sunday-August 9th this year-& you would definitely upset Hassan[]
It's the week before the National Weekend at Althorp House so not sure if I will be able to make it yet, will see nearer the time.

I will attend a meeting on Saturday where Roland Asche will come, hopefully I will get to talk to him a bit
Christian Mazek invited me to come along, but it's a bit too far to travel unfortunately. I had heard that there are going to be a few ex Turbo Cup drivers there including Roland Ashe along with a few of the 944 Turbo Cup cars.
My car was driven by Niki Leutwiler in 1988 where he came 7th overall (He is driving the Pegasus Racing Morgan LM2 at this years Le Mans)
Fredi Briedl drove the car in 1989 for most of the season finishing 11th overall and for the last few races of the season it was driven by Rudiger Schmitt (he was 3rd overall in 1988 championship).
The car was serviced and maintained by Strahle Motorsport who looked after Roland Ashe championship winning cars. It had different sponsors in both the years it raced and 2 different race numbers.
I have a lot of history but am currently trying to contact all 3 drivers to get more information on the car when they drove it with the help of Christian and others.

Given that the turbo cup was a dedicated race car, why would they not look at details like this? Every gramme off a race car is lap time, after all. [8|]
I assume, being a marketing exercise, Porsche wanted to make the most of the rather lovely enamelled crest - still one of the nicest car badges of any today.
A sticker would have been lighter, and adding many small lightnesses makes a difference, but the badge is a jewel of quality and style - and exactly what Porsche wanted to promote (I imagine).

Totally agree with that John, its the brand they wanted to promote, and a bit of vinyl does not carry that task off as well as a very classy badge.
Also using the standard badge panel would not suit a sticker due to pre punched badge holes

Interesting, and thanks.
I guess we are all a bit over-exposed to the obsessions of the modern race teams. I just found this unlikely, but that's comparing it to Ron Dennis and the way F1 cars are built around saving every gram, and the amount of drag a raised badge would create.
I suppose the 944 Cup was build in the golden age of racing where the driver was having a 12-course lunch with lashings of claret before a race, driving the nuts off the car to get the win without a seat-belt or helmet, then going home with several of the pit-lane ladies. [&:]
And having a recess people might have been tempted to use helicopter tape to smooth it off. That really wouldn't have been apropriate.
I agree with you in respect of racing of old. I love the way old racing cars had bits and pieces rivitted to them and holes where bits were removed. Think of the 917 where they rivitted sheets of ali to the car at the circuit to stop it taking off. Modern racing cars are far too sterile in comparison.

Martin its really great you have bought this car and will preserve it, the original cup car is an important link in Porsches racing history.

One of the guys in Scotland has a 997 cup car that he uses as a track car. He felt his 996 gt3 rs was starting to be too valuable to track anymore.
I could have bought a 997 Cup car for less than the 944 Cup Car, but they aren't road legal and you will be looking at engine, transmission rebuilds every few thousand miles. If you want a track racer then they are perfect, but for me I want a road car that had the race history and providence that plenty of the later cars don't have due to them being bought and driven by Privateers in varying events.
I will say that a 997 Cup car would be a phenomenal car to turn up with for a track day []

Still a few jobs to be done, mainly under the bonnet with a new expansion tank to fit and the washer bottle to be removed and cleaned. Also the engine cut off bracket needs rubbed down and painted plus a few other minor jobs. Also got another set of Magnesium wheels that are being painted Pearl White to be fitted with a new set of black wheel nuts.
Will update as I get time and the jobs are done.

If it's £20 then I shall order one. The expansion tank I've had for a couple of years and was about £150 []
I was going to give it the dishwasher treatment as someone said it brings them up like new []

Very nice indeed, interesting to see the spare wheel. Is this something you've fitted as your using it as a road car or did the factory leave them in the Cup car to keep the weight distribution correct?
Hopefully I'll be lucky enough to be able to see it at a show sometime.
The cars came with spare wheel and the rear seat backs, but these were removed for racing. I have the original rear seat back in storage []

Is it me or does that air intake snorkel look to have a larger diameter than standard ?
The airbox and snorkel are standard 944 Turbo. This is a brand new one replacing the original as it had a few marks on it, but otherwise it is identical.
The intake manifold is Magnesium (more of a beige colour) and is a lot lighter but not sure if there is much difference in the internal dimensions or airflow?

Bonhams auction at Spa had a very nice Carrera GT for sale in red i have not checked the website to see what it sold for they also had a 959 for sale and an Ex Le Mans winning car (962) that went for around 1.2 million from a phone bid.

Your car looks stunning Martin, i was talking to a guy at Spa Classic over the weekend who told me his friend has one, apparently never turned a wheel for 20 years he said the guy was from Maidenhead in Surrey, there was a lso a Silverose on the ferry last night spoke to the guy this morning and he is going to have a look on the Silverose website if i remember the number plate was B10 ???

Would be nice to know if it does exist and if so what car it is? Totty sent me pictures of the Silver Rose (B10 ACF) I've messaged Paul McNulty to see if it is a Club Member as it isn't on the Register yet []
