944 DME Project

Great news! Its very satisfying to have complete control of your engine. Are you having any issues with sampling the flywheel teeth at high revs?

Not as of yet, tested the timing circuits on the engine up to 7k with a modified sensor and oscilloscope and they were good. On the bench they will go up to something like 15K rpm.

Just had a good read here tom . Thanks for getting in touch, very interested in working with you .... shame your way up north as we could of met up

Tom, would it be possible to offer a stripped down version with fewer features? Youve achieved what Id hoped to with MS(and a great deal more too), and the out-of-the-box simplicity is appealing, but I think that the finished item will have a lot of functionality that I simply wont be able to use.

Great progress! I need one of these, and it's great that it's been developed on the humble 8v.
You have pm.

Had some great progress with this lately. Managed to drive the car for the first time tonight :D, only up and down the drive though........ Car is fully mappable now, going to get a load of bench testing done to make sure the ignition is doing what I think it is. Ignition certainly changes with map values, just got to make sure its as close to the actual value as possible.

Assuming that all goes well the only thing left to do is get it mapped! A local company to me called Simpson Racing have kindly offered to set up the maps for me, I've been to their workshop and they have done some really impressive work!

Well its been 11 months since I started this project. I'm not sure I ever thought I would ever get to say this, but....... On sunday I went for the first on the road test drive of my NA 944 2.5 fitted with the modified ECU and I am very pleased to say we completed a 2 mile trip faultlessly :). The car revs smoothly, accellerates nicely (still needs accelleration enrichment) and I can data-log and re-map fuel and ignition live on the road. AFR's are held accurately and I cannot believe there are any issues with the ignition as the car was factory smooth (with 20 degrees advance all over). [:)][:)][:)]

It's so good to have a platform I can work with, all the little things I think of that would be an improvement I can simply code in. Feels good to have this level of control over the car.

Sorry Tom, Ive only just seen this.

Main benefits to it are getting rid of the dizz cap. I think a pretty good solution is using the coil pack from a golf. Just need some kind of mounting hardware to put it where the dizzy used to go, size permitting. Need to get to the scrappers and get hold of one to try it.

Don't worry Oli I'm on it! My Turbo engine is pretty much finished now, got GPF's SFR turbo to go on too :). Have finished rebuilding the rear suspension and TT now so the turbo should be on the road again fairly soon. This system should be good to drop straight in already :) Its already got AFR monitoring, knock inputs, boost control and EGT monitoring built in.
