944 Dyno Day Saturday 20th May 2006

I can aim to get there for 8:20, I need to shoot off around lunchtime so I was going to get there early anyway.

I want to do a chip change during the day, does anyone have one of those earthing wristbands they can bring along?

I'll most likely be there before 9am - would be hard to judge the trip from Newcastle to make it exactly on 9, so would rather be early.

I have to be away by 11ish, so am hoping to meet alot of you before I leave!

PS - anyone know what the postcode is? - helpfully the website doesn't tell you!!

Just had a thought - I sold my BMW the other day, and raided the Porsche to nick the radio. Guess I have to hastily install a radio tomorrow - my pops is coming with me as company, but 7 hours is a long time without any news!!!

Well, it is with pleasure and not a little relief I can confirm that as of about 6pm my car is officially a runner again.

This round of mods were fitting a copy of Rick's CDI system (which sees the introduction of motorbike parts in the mix), removal of the idle control valve (so nobody can take the mick that the little K&N has fallen off again), replacement of the failed wideband sensor, removal of the fuel damper, removal (on probation for now) of the vacuum pipe to the FPR and finally the addition of a fairly large oil cooler with in-line thermostat and an oil temperature sender.

I also found the KLR boost line that I had been using to feed my map sensor had a crack in it, which I am suspicious was the cause of my jet engine sound as well as doing my boost control no favours.

Idle when warm is now rock solid with the payoff that when cold it's non existant. Off-boost the car is creamy smooth compared to before (even though the fuelling is rich across the range for now), which I guess is the result of a super-fat and longer duration spark.

All in all a good week's tinkering.

Excellent well done, (wasn't taking the mick about the filter, just worried it may fall out [;)])
My car ran for the first time last night with a vitesse MAF kit - (MAF / Cone filter / 3" J Pipe / piggyback board that replaces the chip)
Started first time to a rock solid idle was smooth through the range - dont know if its quicker as the rain meant lots of wheelspin. It certainly sounds a lot different - the turbo has developed a voice! Hope to get a few more miles on it later today - and to neaten up the power supply.
Tony

This is what I like to hear. 1 week before we all go to Scotland and people have only just got their cars running after pretty conclusive non fixable mods.

I think we shall be spending as much time mapping as looking at maps. [:D]

More worryingly my sump gasket is leaking and I probably should get it fixed first, but I dont think there will be time [&:]
Tony

Well done chaps [:D] I was getting worried that some of our 'big power' attendees would be unable to run.

Personally, I am going to keep suspiciously quiet at this point [;)]

Carl I don't know what the Weltmeister postcode is but I presume you are coming down the M1 and will exit at Junction 15A. There are big brown signs for Silverstone from that point onwards

Address is

Unit 41 & 42 Silverstone Business Park, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, Northants. NN12 8TN

Pete

Cheers for that. Was thinking about bringing the laptop and GPS, but after actually looking at the map, it would be pretty difficult to get lost!

See you all there!

Cheers

Wasn't meaning you especially, Tony, someone else was ribbing me about it before. Rick I imagine.

Anyway, can I be the last official cancellation? I'll still be there as will my car, but it won't be on the rollers. I'll explain tomorrow, but for now let's just say "bang, rattle, smoke, pool of oil."

Real Shame -

That will be all the horses lost, not just the 100 you were looking for the other day...

Pete

Bugger, just realised the Hearse is on the confirmed list, too. I am already at Silverstone, sans hearse (shame; it would have been useful to haul back the bits of 944 that aren't on the A43) so I'm a double cancellation. Sorry Paul.

Sorry to hear that too and hope the day goes well for all the rest of you.
We shall look forward to seeing a little 'league table' of results here very soon...

Thanks to everyone who came today [:)], we had 22 944s, one 924 and one 993 on the rollers with power levels ranging from 403bhp to 121bhp. Allan and his guys worked like trojans once again and this year we managed to get all the cars through by 2:30pm - very impressive.

I only wish my car had been one of them [:(] I even brought my reserve car but couldn't run it because one of the wheels has a buckle [&o]. Roll on next year [:D]
