944 GBC - My 1992 944 S2 3.0 - The story so far !

ORIGINAL: robdimond

Fantastic, thanks for the write up!

I assume you did the brake lines without dropping the rear beam or transmission? Mine are a bit iffy so I might do them before the next MOT if it's simple...

Rob

Certainly did leave rear beam in place

One tip though regards the brake pipe T piece

fit the 3 pipes into the T piece BEFORE bolting the T piece back onto the body

this way you can manipulate all the pipes easier into position and tighten pipes correctly

Fantastic post and very well done with the car.

All the photos are great and really help to show exactly what you've done.

Enjoy your trip!

Thanks Mike

A pic says a lot more than trying to describe the jobs carried out

When I set out to do the jobs there was very little in way of pics available online so I decided to take plenty

Many of the jobs are well within the realms of a competent DIY'er and maybe this thread will help others

Not long now till Dinslaken and looking forward to it

Great post and interesting read, thanks . Need to sort out the spaghetti at the back of my stereo as well. I have a Sony which is great as it streams music straight from my Iphone but get a lot of echo on hands free, anyone else get this?

I think Scotch Loks and crimped connectors were all the rage in the 80's and 90's

Mine much better now it's all sorted and the iPhone connectivity is excellent

It depends on the kit. How old is your HU? Some kits were known for being poor and resulted in one having to turn the volume down. Alpine kits were terrible when they were made by Siemens (an echo issue was one of the list of faults). Parrot seem to be OK (I believe they make kits for Sony and Alpine).

Good to see another Blue Oval convert on the 44 forum [:)]
We also had a 944 convert trying to escape to the Blue Oval Camp too.....

Interesting read, imagine an OPC sending out a car with one set of rear shoes changed, and also a fuel clip like that.......their quality of work and pricing ensure there will always be indie's and DIY Service owners. I would not let an OPC fill the washer bottle personally, it honestly would not surprise me if they put the water in the PAS Reservoir, and you could be sure they would deny it.

While I struggle with the skirts, that 1992 Colour really suits the 944. Have a good trip and keep up the good work.

Not a convert

My Blue Oval is going nowhere - lol

I have all the receipts regarding previous repairs and have been informed the "blue park shoes" are modified and only available as a set of 4 !

I also believe the OPC "Complimentary Vehicle Visual Health Check" is an absolute farce and is simply a way of generating quick extra sales instead of ensuring a vehicle is fit for purpose

Then to only replace 1 side of shoes is beyond any reasonable explanation

The sills did look a little odd when I first was on the hunt for an S2 but once I fitted +20mm spacers it gave the rear end a more meaningfull stance and the sills suits the car well

Well I am home

1300 miles not a tool or spare part fitted to my car

4 x 944's on tour and the only part used was a 21w brake light bulb

Oh for the record an S2 runs well on 60 ltrs of E10 [8|] (well the pump nozzle was green) (asap it was watered down with 100ron V Power though)

How well the 944 S2 comes alive and it all makes sense at 90 mph

140mph+ on Autobahn and with the confidence to do it !

Particular highlights were Dinslaken Porsche Show

The bridge at Remagen Museum (the only "dry" crossing of the Rheine on the Allies march to Berlin)

Reims derelict Grand Prix circuit

Thiepval WW1 Memorial and a slow drive around various memorials and historic battle sites (very moving)

Playing Grand Theft Auto for real around the streets of Amiens looking for a McDonalds - lol

So many traffic lights so many Grand Prix starts ! Everyone wants to play - lol !

The cars were much admired and I would certainly do it all again - SOON !

Then the motley crew on Le Tunnel to come home (I am behind the camera - lol)

I will be doing more pics as I hope to show the replacing of the rear gearchange linkage for a quickshift type once I get round to doing it

Todays little job was to fit a new radiator from design911

http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod3558/Radiator-Water-Porsche-944-S2-30L-1989-91-and-Turbo/

I had noticed "cool" areas on the radiator fins and the temp getting near the 2nd single line on the gauge

All good now and whilst my rad hadnt failed it is another job ticked off the ever decreasing list
