944 Turbo Shocks

DSC00202.jpg

Kit arrived today! Looks awesome. Will be getting it fitted next week along with flo-flex arb bushes and 968 castor mounts. Should be a big improvement on my leaking and spongy sachs units (some clown replaced the original koni's with these) and my 20 year old springs. It will be then be treated to a full geometry set up to finish.

Looking forward to the transformation.

Stuart

WOW! They look the mutts nutts, can you list the part numbers etc. so that others can order them easily too if they work out?

I wonder if they do a height adjustable rear shock as a KW alternative?

Thanks.

Everything up to and including remote reservoir adjustables with helper springs.

I'm new to this whole Porker thing but I've known the GAZ guys a few years & have met few more genuine people. I currently run them on my BMW race car and have been helping them sort out the valving etc for their Lotus Elise dampers. If and when I do get a car I'll be getting a kit of them I dare say.

If you need to get hold of anybody or want to have a chat about a group buy I would suggest you speak to Warren Gazzard & if he isnt around Mark Gazzard. In know there have been problems with the Powerflex factory but these guys are also a supplier of their parts so maybe able to help you with bushes etc as well.

And by all means mention that I sent you (Richard Thomas from SELOC or PBMW)

scam75, did you order these from the Gaz website or did you phone them?   sorry to ask I but I need to know the details of this deal  !

You ALWAYS need to call them, or email them James. The websites rubbish (looks nice but has next to nothing on it) and their redellers are equally uninformative.

My Koni cut-and-shuts have been on there for over 35k miles now, and while I am not looking to replace them in the near future threads like this are always interesting.

That looks like a whole load of metal you got there for your money, Stuart. I'm keen to hear how they work as well ...

Well gents, fitted the back shocks last night and removed one of the front ones today. I was surprised that the new ones are about 3 inches shorter than the old ones that came off. I have only stipped one side as I think they may be a bit low for street use. Anybody any idea of how low you can go before things start scraping??? The difference of the fitted heights of the wheels are huge. Pics below

The old shock still on

The new shock fitted

The lower wishbone is pretty much 90 degrees square to the body whereas the old one droops a fair bit.

Will have to get the car on the ground tomorrow and see how much into the arch it goes.

That's surely not with all the weight of the car on the wheels? That looks very, very high (although it could be the angle of the photo contributing.)

That looks more like it ....

No Oli, that is with no weight on it at all. On looking at a picture of the car, seemd that the wheels sit quite high anyway so will have to wind the spring up a bit. Shouldn't need too much as they are 300lb ones!
Pic of the back shocks fitted. They supplied no dust boots with them so I have taken the old ones off, made 2 holes over the top of them and cable ited them over the top of the shock. Seems to work well and will keep the crap off the rod. Pity there is no clearnace to do the front ones as the springs are quite tight on the body.

Rich, the car only had an oil change about 2000 miles ago and as you can see is rather black. Gave it a good flush with the Forte stuff and will get some more oil in it. Had a sticky tappet or 2 so hopefully this will have helped. Probably will flush again in a couple of thousand miles as I am sure it is still rather dirty in there. You can't change oil often enough in my book!
I also need to find out some way of securing the ABS earth, plug housing, the front air scoops, etc on to the shock. Also, there is no bracket for the brake hoses where it goes from the solid from the caliper into the flexi so God knows what I will do with that. The joys!!!

Grrrrrrr []

Why can't anything be a simple plug and play? [8|]

Interesting report on the Gaz so far Alasdair.

Can't wait to hear about the road test - am waiting with baited breath! Am seriously tempted to get a set myself[:D]

You probably don't need me to tell you this - but be sure to put pleanty of anti-sieze on those front damper threads. In my experience the can sieze like hell to the lower spring platforms.
