944 Turbo Shocks

Looks very neat Al. Good to meet you yesterday, sorry it was a bit rushed. Did you fix the tap at the same time!!

Alasdair,

Have Gaz given any explanation about why the brake line bracket is not included with this kit?

Sonny

I would presume as the kit is more aimed at the track so there is no need for ABS sensor mounts or brake line mounts as these would probably be braided hoses straight into the caliper on a race car. Glad it is all finished now!
Also good to meet you David, it is always nice ot put faces to people. Tap still frozen solid so pipe still burst but found the other stop cock inside so the kettle was on a few times today, Stuart (scam75) was the teaboy today. Hope the journey up to Stirling was OK and not too white and slippy!

Rich, yep, the joys of Scotlands salt laden roads. Paint is always the way forward! There was small discolouration on the metal so the plating is obviosuly very thin. Will give the whole lot a small smattering of grease to keep the salt out after a good clean next time Stuarts car is on the ramp.

I do recall a (somewhat infamous) thread on PH about Gaz shocks, their propensity to rust and the customer service received when one set was returned. I'm sure PH search will be your friend if you want to find it, but keeping shiny new Gaz shocks painted/heavily wax protected would seem a sensible precaution ...

Oli.

I have GAZ fitted to my Ford (under construction). Although the plating looks nice when new I was afraid of the rust issue, so here is what I did...

keyed the serface with scotchbrite, followed by etch primer from an aerosol.

Followed by blue Smoothrite from an aerosol. The threaded areas were spray coated with copper grease - this gives a nice thin even layer.

Incidently, I had a set of KW Varient 2's fitted to my Mercedes CLK for 15 months. This car was used in all weathers and did about 12K miles per year. They were removed when the car was sold and the damper bodies on these cleaned up with a touch of metal polish to look like new again! This is one HUGE benefit of KW products, though it comes at a price!
