964 Register Display Eynsham Hall Event

ORIGINAL: Fred Hindle

Hello Colin,
I understand the proposals for the displays have been sent to Cornbury House and will appear in the June PP. I'm on the gate as part of the Special Displays team so if you slip me £50 in used ten pound notes when you arrive your car will be considered. [:)][:)]
I hope its not just the best cars that are being allowed into the Register display area, if it is then mine will be parked in Oxford, I'm thinking on polishing it before I go down, has anyone got any Brasso they could let me use?[:)]
Cheers,

Hi Fred,
I received the June PP this morning, and as you said, all the detail is now revealed ...
What ???[8|]

Regards

So Fred, what was the outcome. I fear the club has become a nest of bed featherer's. So much for Barry Smith getting back to me.

So am I to assume that it is just going to be a case of turning up and parking in a distant Oxfordshire field again? (answers on a postcard...)

Funny...while we're on the topic... I asked about tickets for the in field PCGB Porsche parking at the Silverstone Classic Weekend at the end of July. I enquired a couple of months ago and was told someone would get back to me... they didn't. I rang Club office again... someone would get back to me.... guess what?

Yep. You're right.

Er.... Yes, but remember to apply for your ticket........ !!!

I've been asked by Ken to give some assistance to him and Leslie Kett in trying to arrange the Register parking this year. In an attempt to avoid the mess we experienced at Brands last year in which Leslie had to resort to dashing around at the main gate to find candidates it is hoped that a bit of early organisation might save the day.

It is anticipated that each car displayed in the Register parking area will have a "hanger" issed by HO and sent to the driver PRIOR to the event. There are only 13 spaces available this year and I'm sure we can fill that space with ease.

In order to get cars (and owners) allocated we need to have the following information - sooner rather than later. To avoid extending this thread unneccesarily it would be use ful if anybody wishing to display their car on EITHER the Saturday or the Sunday (or both) would e-mail the following information to me at davew@computamedic.co.uk

The information needed is as follows:

Full name:
Car type (C2,C4, Coupe,Targa,Cab etc.)
Registration no.
Your PCGB Membership No.
Your full postal address:
Your telephone no.
Which day(s) (Sat/Sun)

I will be there both days (so I guess that means there's only 12 slots available already!!) and I'm sure we will need some stand-bys to cater for the unforseen drop-outs etc.

It has always been difficult to get any decent level of commitment from people in advance of events such as this but I'd encourage you to, at least, send me the information if you would like to display your car.

Best regards

Dave

By way of clarification, I have just heard from PCGB HO that there will be no space provided within the Register display for the erection of the Register gazebo. The suggestion is that it would be distracting for Register members to congregate in the parking area and they may not then venture in to the main Festival area. Quite why that would bother anyone once they'd got their entrance fee evades me, but there you are!!

Regards

Dave

Hi Dave, do we assume that this is only a Parking Area.... NOT a Display Area, where members of a register can meet and talk about their cars, modifications, events, track days and all of the usual clubbie chit chat, that most of us seem to enjoy doing at events both large and small.

The Times, they are a-changin'

Hello Jeff,
Sorry for the long delay in replying to you but I have only just spotted your posting.
Barry is away at the moment so I can't speak to him and ask what is happenning.
As far as information is concerned I know about as much (or little) as anyone I'm afraid. It was my understanding (and I think Barry's also) that the June PP would contain loads of info as to what was happenning etc. As it turned out - nothing. In an email I had from David Newton he does say that information will appear in July PP. I emailed him about the lack of info for the festival on the websites, a plea for information rather than a criticism.
Cheers,

I hope people are not going to be moved from the area. Apparently there is only going to be ONE marquee for all registers so could end up in a really good bunfight![:)]
I would imagine that the area will be open to the public once all the cars have arrived (if H&S has anything to do with it).[:)]
Cheers,

So Fred, we are back to the Crystal Ball again......
If the public are going to be allowed out of the show ground and back through the turnstiles, into the Register Parking, who is going to be there and where to greet them.
We can't be in the marquee and on duty at the register display at the same time... especially if it's either pouring with rain or the sun is beating down and we don't have gazebos to shelter in.

Cheers,

Having spoken to Angie Pinchin and Phil Clark today things are beginning to get a little clearer - if not better.

Having not had the benefit of going to Eynsham before I discovered that the Register Parking (note - I said PARKING , not DISPLAY) is outside of the paid entrance area so I am intrigued to see what access visitors will have.

It has also been deemed necessary for those parking in the register area to have pre-purchased tickets. If you do not pre-purchase tickets the organisers will not send out access hangers for the Register Parking.

In chatting to Angie I also discovered that there are a few 964s which have been registered for Register Parking which I have not been told about. Can I ask anyone who has expressed an interest in parking with the 964 Register to please ensure that I know about it. We are trying to ensure that this doesn't turn into a similar debacle as was experienced at Brands last year.

If you haven't told me already I'm on davew@computamedic.co.uk

Regards

Dave

OK... so here's the thing (and I'm sorry if I am being dense). I'm a member of the 964 Register. I have a 1990 Carrera 4 - which is tidy but not 'concours'. I'd like to be able to park with other 964 owners but don't feel my car is up to the standard required to be displayed on the register stand.

Do I need to apply for a hanger? Will the other 964's be congregating in the outside parking bit? (I've been to Eynsham before and parking is just in a big field.) Or shall I just turn up and park next to the car that arrives before me whether it be a 356 / 914 /924 / 944 / 968 / 930................?

Please keep explanations simple... ! It's been a long week. [;)]

Colin,

Don't feel bad - it's necessary to feel confused!! We've all been there!!

Firstly, the Register Parking is exactly that - it's an opportunity for owners of particular models to congregate and do whatever comes naturally!! There is no requirement to have a pristine car, there is no examination, there is no concours judging. All that's needed is you and your car and a desire to chat to other 964 owners.

The Register Parking is, indeed, in a big field - currently it's a big field divided up into 345 parking spaces, of which, 964s are allocated 13 of them. This is completely separate from the "Porsche Parking" and "Other Parking" and you WILL need a hanger to get into the field with your car. There should be nothing to stop YOU (i.e. without your car) getting to the Register Parking although, as we understand it, there will be no gazebo so whether you will manage to find anyone else there remains to be seen.

If you want to put your car in Register Parking you need to send me the details itemised above ASAP.

Regards

Dave

There seems to be a huge amount of confusion about the various displays and I'm wondering if that might be why I'm getting such a pathetic response thus far.

The Red/White/Blue display is completely separate from the Register Parking. There is no specific colour requirement for the Register Parking - I would just like to have enough 964s to come close to filling the mere 13 slots we have available!!!

Currently I have the following for Register Parking:

Me
Andrew Mantle
Leslie Kett
Colin Barratt
Brian McClellan
Ian Cross
Veronica Robinson

and for the R/W/B display I have

John Miles (Red)
Neil Eldred (Blue)
Karl Christodolou (Silver - backup)

If anyone else "thinks" they are in either display but not represented in this list PLEASE contact me by e-mail (davew@computamedic.co.uk) ASAP. Pulling teeth is easy compared to this!!!

Regards

Dave

Edited to update names.

We still need a white car for the R/W/B and a few more for the Register Display. Don't let us down people!! My problem here is that I can find 964 owners but the ones who are interested are not PCGB members. Where are all the local people - many of those already registered are from distant parts. I'm going to be doing a "Delia Smith" if we don't get some decent respose soon!!!

Regards

Dave

(Slightly off topic)
Well, once again the PP was devoid of information regarding the festival. The festival website is the same. How can the club expect to draw people to an event when there isn't any information as to what is happening, when it is happening etc.
It is a busy time of year especially for families with young children who are planning holidays, days out etc. At the very least I would have expected a map of the general layout of Eynsham.
Cheers,

Fred,

There is a map of the Register Parking floating around - it looks like all registers are in the same field with blocks of approx 13 cars for each register. Some of the larger registers appear to have more than 1 block.

We are still in desperate need of more cars for the 964 Register - and particularly a white car for the R/W/B display otherwise it's going to be a Red/Silver/Blue display in our case!!!

Please bear in mind that there are no "condition" requirements for the Register Parking - just a desire to park with other 964s. You WILL, however, need to purchase your tickets for the event from PCGB HQ telling them that you want to park in the Register Parking. You also need to tell me too!!!

I'm really surprised that the poor take-up thus far - I though we were all proud of our 964s?? If you have already booked your slot with HQ and do not appear on the list further up this thread it means I don't know about it. If this IS the case I'd welcome a quick e-mail from you (to davew@computamedic.co.uk) to confirm it.

Regards

Dave

Dave.

If you have no luck and are really desperate for a white car you are welcome to borrow my GP White Carrera 2 for the R/W/B display but I am not going to be attending the event myself. Its in very very good condition and has not been modified (I posted a thread recently saying hello with pictures). I suspect this is completely impracticle (I am just south of Leicester) but the offer is there.

Surely if the 964 register is in need of a white car, there are no members going that can assist and you have a local non PCGB member offering a car then you should be able to use thier car. Throwing in free entry would seem reasonable for them as well IMHO.

Ian.

Ian,

Thanks for the offer but I'm sure you'll appreciate the difficulty/expense of getting the car there and back. It's a shame you're not going because it would be an ideal car for the R/W/B display.

Anybody else up for it???

Regards

Dave
