ORIGINAL: Melv

Well if someone wants to pay me 50k they can have mine.

Don't do it Jason!!![&:]

I don't want to but work wise may force me too....we will see.....but if someone comes along with the money it may be hard to say no[&o]

The question is Jason, what else would you buy to replace it?[:-]

The RSR?[:D]

tbh I'd probably end up buying a very cheap 968, stripping it, setting it up purely for track and then using all the savings to do lots more track days and improve my track driving....

I won't let it be a garage queen.[]

Then again it would be like saying goodbye to one of my kids....[]

Hi Dave, sounds like you've been enjoying the car, and yes you have got a bargain based on the current euro values. I'm astounded to be honest.

Jason believe me you would not be happy doing that. My first RS was back in 97 and when I started racing formula renault I sold the RS as I didn't use it much and later decided to get a 968 CS M030 for track days. It was quick enough and I could follow 964 RS's round the track, but for reasons I can't explain it was totally dull doing it and just didn't satisfy like an RS. Bought another RS straight away and started my business through sheer passion for these cars. An RS on proper sticky tyres is fantastic.

Well this currency lark makes the Swiss cars super expensive in comparison...

nice newish RS in white (21,000km...) £80,000 + the tax differences if you wanted to take it elsewhere in Europe anyone?

or £110k for a similarly low mileage 993 RS C/S...

Agreed Paul, I bought a Flat6 mag this afternoon and was astonished at the prices being asked even in the private classifieds ... agreed also on the 968CS M030, but a very good road car [;)]

Well I can assure you its not a 968[;)] I had a 968CS too Paul with full M030 and I know what you mean but for 5-10k budget track car it is a hell of a proposition at the price.

My RS will be going up for sale and I'm guessing at the euro values it will probably end up going abroad - the difference now to what uk prices were is substantial.

Give me a call Paul if you have any euro clients looking and you can broker a deal[:)]

From memory think your car has a factory cage? Nice car and colour advertise it yourself on Mobile.de and also Pistonheads also discuss brokering it with Paul McLean at GT Classics ... value top of my head ... well with Thomas Scmitz it would be nearer 60,000 Euro so my theory is work backwards ... also look on Mobile.de and see what is about ... UK value private has to be asking £45,000 if it;s as described all original etc .... But keep it if you can one Day they will be double current values ...[:)]

And that day has cometh .....[;)]

I need your crystal ball please [:D]

Do not sell these cars, how many times have I said this. They have a long long long way to go, BUT THIS IS NOT THE REASON WE BUY THEM ... they are the epitome of 911 development, all the right ingredients coming together in one model year 1992.

Hates. Poor turning circle

Certainly Phil, with inferior 2,7RS and 993RS prices rising it is only a matter of time that we see the bog standard high mileage mediocre 64RS make £150K with the really nice ones topping £200K ..... [:)]

But this is NOT we we buy them, we drive them[:D]

Modern Porsche 911 Likes : Rear Engine location, Frugal, Fast, Smooth, European, Easy, - they have lost rather a lot over the years.

Happy days,I would think £150 is where they will stop at for well used honest cars, low milers garage queens ,who knows £500 k some day.but then what would I know[:D]

There is a lot of truth in what Des says above - in my quest for 911 nirvana over the years (check out the start of this thread) I have driven 3.2 Carreras (not CS though), 964s of all persuasions including RS/NGT/Cup, 993RS/CS, 996GT3/RS and 997 (albeit C2S only).

Out of all the cars it is the 964RS and variants that offers the combo of characterful aircooled motor, modern brakes that work, enough power to be fun, modernish suspension with that wonderfully twitchy rear (oohh err missus).

I really dont know if we are at the peak or not - I thought that I had overpaid when I bought mine @ £40k - the only downside of current values is the 10% track excess whch must be balanced against the benefit that the growth in value brings.

I hope for one that many of us keep driving them.....

Indeed George your quote above may be true .... Maybe add, Very very fast, PSM, Non-involving, Heavy, sorry very heavy, exploding (just love that one, hee her) Soft, Automatic, depreciating, money losing, german dentist spec, cup holders, common, boring, give it to the Mrs shopping car ..... I do not resemble these comments and are meant to be read in conjunction with Factory Brochure, series 2 facelift Iva model appendix 3 special edition [;)] j

On a serious note .. the modern 911 is a bloody fine car, but is a whole departure from the aircooled cars and different, simply the 911 was never meant to be a super car ....[&o]

simply the 911 was never meant to be a super car

Super Cars are vile, there is no pleasure in driving most of them. A good VW Golf would run rings round most of them on a wet twisty road.

What has happened, and it's disappointed a few of us who genuinely appreciated the 911 sports-car (and its epitome, the 964 RS variants) - as per kasbridge quest over the years, is that the product has become commercialised, compromised and irretrievably lost to a bunch of suits who don't understand the original 911 product.

The car has lost the simple form follows function design, endurance proven engineering, German Craft skill build quality, quirky "this is how Porsche do it" features, and its evolving its way to being a Porsche 3 series Coupe. Until type 997, when Autocar road-tested a new 911 I would have gone out of my way to get a copy, but recently I would not read it if it was delivered to me. (There is nothing to read, I know what it will contain)

The beautiful Panel fit, paint edges, feel, smells, sounds, (cooling fan, diff, wind noise) details (rev counter, floor hinged pedals, quarter lights, fuel flap cable, Recaro Seats, Fuchs Rims, Mahle engine parts), engineering (dry sump, brakes, LSD, Seam welding, Magnesium components) 100k 'ability, have been replaced by a load of contrived Bling, which we are meant to swallow with images of 917's and 956 endurance racing success stories from the Propaganda Dept, all wrapped up and presented by a sales network with Customer Care skills that Ryan Air would wince at.

Some-one in Stuttgart needs to design a simple, low volume, rear engined, air-cooled, light-weight, 6 cylinder, 2.5 litre, 5 speed, LSD, 2wd, Brembo'd, Fuch'd, Clubman focussed sports car, built without compromise, finished without compromise, and Supplied with genuine Customer Care. Run in a Series such as turbo Cup / Carrera Cup, and call it the 911 Carrera.

I personally don't think Porsche have the people any more, but the good news is Ron Dennis Organisation at McLaren is evolving this way.....

In the mean time, good examples of the epitome of 911 will increase in value like Art, because they really are the pinnacle of something really special which looks to be lost for ever from Stuttgart. Are there any Porsche family there these days?
