968 caster (castor?) mounts ~ worth it if not upgrading wheels?

ORIGINAL: mik_ok

hey Stephen [:)]

Yeah I know. Maybe my mounts are a bit ker-nakered (?)

Peter assured me there is nowt wrong at the front ..... but if I can improve it I will (and I can't see how changing them will do any harm).

OK OK - 1st Sat in April (provisionally) it is then for the 1st meet of TNWoSPOCS (TN=The New) [;)]

First official 2005 meeting of the TNWoSPOCSTMIAT (TMIAT - That Must Include A Turbo) [:D]

LOL yeah got that TN okay [;)]

I'm checking mine tomorrow.

SBF maybe (and this goes against the norm) wider turbo wheels deal with the tramlining better, plus you don't really drive it in the wet - maybe mik and i are noticing something that happens in the cold/damp ? maybe it is just the S2 ? mines got twice the milage of miks and it sound sjust as bad as mine ?

Also make it at a time where we can still see the Bahrain qualifying, don't like recording it - don't have a video recorder anymore either [;)]

Mine feels camber sensitive come rain, shine, hot or cold.

Maybe I'm just being too picky...... don't think so though. Hard to tell without driving your car, and that's a bit difficult with it in bits. I did let a knowledgeable driving god drive mine before I bought it however..... [;)]

Maybe you (slim) didn't do the dishes with fairy liquid as a kid, hence you're rough hands are too insensitive to notice? [;)]

Jeez Graeme, you still try to plan events around the GP? We'll need to get up to Knocky and watch some real racing together - any race series where overtaking hasn't been banned yet. [:'(]

John, I suspect you have some other problem if your car doesn't track true with 968 castor mounts and proper geometry. Bushes or tie-rods?

I would hope you are right Fen. Autostrassa have set the car up twice, and checked everything, but whilst they do a great job on most things, I think suspension is a bit of a black art and I'm not convinced it is up their street. Dave Sims (no relation) has also sugested that he wasn't very impressed with their efforts on his car so I do think I need a second opinion - Ho hum more money!

plus you don't really drive it in the wet -

You must be mistaking me for someone who doesnt live in scotland. 8000miles last year in my car and i am pretty sure about 1/2 of them would have been done it the wet. How many miles have you done so far?

It was most certainly normal service in Glasgow (peeing down) the evening I passengered in the SBF-mobile.

Normal is sleet. Just rain is a good day ~ i take it you were up in the middle of summer? [;)]

Slim - I refuse to call a wishbone bush a castor mount. [&:] It's a nonsensical term [;)]

Evening All,

Sorry to get in on this a bit late (note to self: check the forum more often!).

Anyway, mine's an '88 944S, standard suspension (front struts recently changed for standard replacements as they were knackered), running on 16" Club Sport alloys (no, I haven't fitted any shims yet;-). But, I did get the 968 castor mounts fitted when the fronts were being changed.

It doesn't track like a b@st@rd (no more than it used to anyway) and the only thing that seemed to make mine more nervous was the 7.5" (front) and 9" (rear) D90's I had on it before.

I'd go for it if you're having work done on that end anyway.

HTH

PMSL listen to Mr Defensive

I mean drive it - like it's supposed to be driven, your words in the past are i don't like to push it when it's wet.

Mik was doing 3 figure speeds when it let loosem then again i suppose it's not a Turbo - LOLssss

Well maybe they just have different characteristics, like the drivers [:)]

Will you two stop bickering on my thread. [:(]

Yes I am.... when I'm at home! [&:]

Typing this from the airport - just realised I can pick up a wireless network!

Should have them tomorrow,...... and then it's just waiting for me to get a spare few hours. And to be in the country of course. []

pah ! excuses excuses ;-)

I know your mad keen to get them fitted, just hoping it is going to make the difference we both need - what's plan B if they don't rid it of the camber sensitivity ?

Hmmmmm.....as thirty 737's discovered the landing beacon has suddenly started guiding them in to the departure lounge... in an unhelpful way. I have breaking news on bbc.co.uk running in the background to see if New Castors Mounts information has an adverse effect on the dynamic loads applied to aircraft caused by landing at 90 degrees to the runway. [:D]
