Hi Peter
My car buying had been stagnant since buying the 993 Turbo in 2000 apart from practical cars and 12 mths with a Ferrari 430 Scuderia in 2011.
My role in Region 5 spiraled around 2011 and I spent a great deal of time down at P C Wilmslow trying different models to increase member interest within the club. A couple of members bought 991's and I tried to get in on the GT3's but with no recent buying history failed. Being retired I was looking for something that wouldn't lose money or hold it's value. I was offered the 50th Anniversary and took delivery in May 2014 which turned out to be a good one to keep. On quizzing the sales team about the future GT3 RS I was given the first opportunity to buy the 40 Anniversary Turbo S with the idea of swapping for the 50th or maybe keeping both. Although the 40th was an awesome looking car (and only 40 of them) it was a different concept having been a Porsche UK idea than Porsche Germany. At £162,000.00 it was an expensive car but you couldn't see where the value lay. There was an excess of expensive leather in the interior and a few cosmetic differences to the standard car but nothing to shout about - they should have been given a power upgrade. It didn't feel right and I thought it would lose money so Wilmslow sold it on as new and struggled to find an owner. In hind sight probably a wise move but you rarely see them for sale now.
Testing of the 991 gen2 will begin in the new year so we'll see what temptation brings in 2016.
Merry Christmas
