997 - returning to the fold

Dyllan,

Helpful. Will check out.

By the way - what will the 08 facelift comprise? Will it have big impact on pre-facelift values?

Spizz

most importantly the general thought is that 08 facelift will include DFI which will probably increase fuel economy by 15% and power likewise so maybe base carrera will get 360-70 bhp and the s will get 390-400 bhp.taking into account the extra fuel range i suspect it will hit current cars depreciation, but howmuch who knows??if i was about to order I think i would probably wait for the facelift but then again....i dont like to be without a porsche[:D][:D][:D]

Are you sure about the power hike as this would put the S too close to the GT3. Porsche are on record of haivng said that they have got about as much as they can out of the 3.6 for the GT3 at 414hp. The x51 gives 381 and exactly splits time differences in half between C2S and GT3 a further performance hike will makw the gap to small for the premium.

I was assuming a hike to match the X51 which still leaves a gap ie C2 - 350-ish, C2s 381-ish, GT3 stays at 414. otherwise is their going to be a new 3.8 litre for a GT3 mk 2 997???????? Now that could be interesting[:D][:D][:D]

i dont think anyone ,even at porsche themselves(!)are certain about the hike-its just the figure that has been bandied about that dfi will give in %age terms. How much of the %age possible porsche will actually use or not(in order to preserve the hierarchy!) remains to be seen[:D][:D]

Sounds like fairly big mods. If I buy an "old" 997S, will I regret it.

I was told the faceleift cars will appear in Feb 08. Is that right?

All speculation Boys.

Facelift cars will not be an improvement looks wise, change for changes sake, unlike the huge improvement from 996 to 997.

In the end it doesnt matter when you buy. The car will be 'old' in next to no time in todays climate.

No need to delay, the depreciation gremlin will catch you somewhere along the line, its like death really, a matter of 'when' not 'if'.

Happily

Agree with Yves - albeit if it s big power hike and its due for Feb I'd ahve though it would be out in the market place by now. My nose says it'll be evolution nor revolution ie a small increase in Power maybe a big increase in mpg and drop in emissions.

Speculation aside if you buy one now and there is a big power hike in the 08/09 model there is a whole raft of didicated tuners waiting to fill the perofrmance gap for far less than the depreciaiton of a trade in[:D][:D][:D][:D]

it'll be the same basic car with some mods, judging by the early photo's current version will be better looking

Thats right Bro,

There will be no engine re-design, just a little software massaging here, intake/exhaust tweak there ( C02 Horse manure cap doffing there ) and bingo, nothing a decent aftermarket tuner cant do.

Save your money and the planet, buy a current model C2S and keep it forever !

having given the very sound advice of buy a C2S now and keep it forever - i thought you were weakening and thinking of chopping in for the facelifted turbo if there was a power upgrade?

Bro,

I have to be realistic, lobbing another £60k at a turbo would be financial suicide for me right now so I'm just going to keep fettling the X51 until things change.

The motor is too fast for this muppet infested Isle anyway so more would be even more of a waste. Ive been down this route with my bikes in the past until I ended up with a 200mph missile, capable of 100mph in 5.5 seconds, 150mph in third gear ( just over 10 seconds ), it all gets a bit meaningless. You have to be going bananas to justify it, not sensible.

Of course, if the MD gives me a £20K a year rise on monday, I will order a turbo straight away !

Does that make sense ?

Yves

Spizz,

Spy shots everywhere on the web, certainly nothing worth waiting for, makes the front end of the car look particularly horrid and EuroboxyHyundaihorrid.

Will definately increase values of the original and best 997 due to the nastiness of it all.

Not biased of course

Yves

Returning to a 911, welcome back may I suggest a very tidy 964RS Lightweight Right Hand Drive....50K at the moment may secure a very very good example.....just my honest answer to your post.....best £50K you'll spend on a Porsche 911 at the moment while prices are semi-sensible...[:D]

Carreraboy - nice idea- but I need 2 seatettes in the back for the sprogs.

Yves D. Difficult to tell from the pics that I have seen; but I get the gist from the psots that better to buy a good 2 year old one and save £20k.......

perfect sense[:D]
i was travelling on an Aroad yesterday rather speedily when a 997 turbo appeared at an insane 3 figure speed ...just not the right country i am afraid...much wiser to stick with the x51 machine(till the inevitable huge pay rise[:D][:D]

Completely with you, neither of us have even fully run our beasts in yet, plenty of time to enjoy them

Friend of mine had the super fast Nortons, eventually got bored as they were strongly one dimentional as he put it tome "you cna't have any realy fun without hitting 130 on short straights and 170 on longer ones" Nowadays, in the UK? He's bought himself an old Land Rover instead

I am with the idea of a £45k pay rise Monday so I can keep the C2S and have the Turbo for trans continental blasts (in my dreams)

In any case if you can get another 40-ish HP your into the 300 bhp/ton power to weight of the Turbo anyhow, at that stage it might lack the absolute speed/performance but will feel every bit as quick....[:D]
