I would think twice about putting 10K against something I would not see for over a year.
How much do Ferrari or Lamborghini want off you to get a slot for a 430 or a Gallardo? (I've never asked, but someone might have.) Are Porsche out of step with the opposition?

I only know that the dealer wanted ÂŁ5k for a V8 Vantage.

I was told previously by my OPC that it was ÂŁ3k for an S and ÂŁ5k for a 4S or TT once the cars were announced.

For what i's worth, I've paid an initial ÂŁ3k deposit for my C4S (but did not have to increase this to 10%, now that the spec is finalised).
This is my first Porsche, so it's not as if I can say I was treated differently as I am a good customer!

Can I ask which OPC invited you to the 911 evaluation day. Is there a specific reason you were invited and what did it involve?
I was invited by Porsche Mid Sussex.
I asked them to invite me.
Before I explain what the Day involved, I will set the scene. A friend of mine is currently driving a Mercedes SL55 and is considering a change. He visited Mid Sussex and spent cosiderable time looking at the options. The Salesman then asked if he would like an opportunity to evaluate the 911 fully. When I found out that he was off on a test day I asked I could go too. Yes was the answer so I went !
Porshe have a travelling Driver that is available to all OPCs and various locations are used for testing.
There are generally five 'Slots' in a day for 5 tests at 9.30/11.00/12.30/2.00 and 3.30.I arrived at Lunchtime and was treated to Lunch from the Salesman from the OPC. The Driver joined us with my pal when his test was finished and over lunch we were told about the 911 tip gearbox developments and we could raise any questions which were expertly answered.
I then drove the Demonstrator 911 S from Bagshot to the Proving ground at Chobham.Firstly the engine flexibility was shown. I then drove at high speed down a long test straight and was told when to Brake ! From 100mph you stop a lot more quickly than one would estimate.Fantastic Brakes. Throttle settings in different modes was explained. I then drove to a different area where Traction control was shown both on and off.... Half Doughnuts !
We then went onto the track for some fast driving then we detoured to the centre hill and tight bend section. Finally the Pro-Driver gave a demo of how it should be done at roughly 25/30 mph faster than my best efforts.
I then drove back and was given a roadcraft lesson.
I can only say one thing about the cars capabilities.......FANTASTIC.
Moving onto the Turbo Orders, Today I paid my second 5k and filled out the 'Form'
It is a Porsche form entitled 'Customer Qualification 911(type 997) Turbo'.
Apart from the obvious the form asks you to list previous/current Porsche models with ownershipperiods and date of sale.
It then asks about competitor productspreviously owned and period and date of sale.
There is an additional comments section and the whole lot has to be signed by the dealer principle and regional manager.
The first Cars will be sold on 24th June with the first Cabs about six months later. ( I am after a cab) apparently this will be the same for all of Europe.
If you like the look of the up and coming Porsche Spyder wheel then that should be out towards the end of the year.
Here are some good sites for looking at different wheel options:

http://www.hrewheels.com/
http://www.championmotorsport.com/997TURBORG5.htm
I would recommend HRE or Champion myself.
