Advice on buying a 944 ?

I would agree that the air cooled engines for 911's are the biz, but the GT3 I got a lift around the track in at Bedford certainly seemed to have the right genes. The 996 Turbo's I've been in did not have the same excitement, but were also blindingly fast - If someone wants to let me have a go in a GT2 to see if that has the full mix then I am available...

So for Declan, what he really needs is a Caymen with a GT3 or GT2 engine - almost fits his criteria, he just needs to wait 25 years...[:)]

Had a quick look on the Porsche website:-

New Cayman S UK:- £40k
New Cayman S Germany:- 58.5EUR or around £40K

New Cayman S USA:- $59K or around £33K.

Another reason not buy new!

Yep. Sounds about right ..I'll just wait 25 years !

Hi Declan - sorry your thread drifted away from you [:)]

Have you made any decisions / seen anything you like yet?

I'd be interested to hear about it, especially if you get a 924S, as this was the car that actually got me interested in Porsches many moons ago

Cheers

Pete

no problem... Its amusing sometimes to see the way threads wander away onto something totally different.

I have not yet made a decision actually. I was swaying towards a 944, and now I'm swaying back again towards a 924S. - I have not looked at any. The only 944 I've sat in & driven is a friends '83 Lux. I've never sat in a 924 !

There is a possible spanner in the works which might rule out both ( [] ) ... the possibility that our "car pool" might be expanding from 2 people to 3 people. Talk about bad timing !

I must admit the 924S is very very tempting from a cost viewpoint.
The fact that it has rear 3-point belts is also a factor !

I actually got a call today about my jeep for sale which sounded promising, so if that goes ahead next week I'll be in a position to buy.

Hi Mark - do you get your copies of Excellence via subscription?

I bought this copy a couple of weeks ago in the Netherlands from a newstand

I would quite like a boxster with a GT3 engine but then the torque is a little lacking for us modded turbo boys. For the work and ££££££££££££'s involved I dont think its worth the effort.

I'll continue the 944T along its path to a reliable 500BHP / 500ftlbs with good driveabilty (I estimate sometime in 2015) [;)]

I'd have to go with you on that, but with a GT3 engine in a Cayman.

Do you see in the Sunday Times that Porsche marketing dept wouldn't let them put an LSD on the Cayman as otherwise it would be quicker than its big brother around the twisty bits - sound familiar?

Looking ahead I can see Porsche's current naming strategy ending in disaster. We've had Cayenne and now Cayman what do we have left? Chaos, Capon?

Spookily, in the version of th Pocket Oxford Dictionary I have on my desk Cayenne is followed by Cayman and then Cayuse - an American Indian pony. You heard it here first.[;)]

I have the Sunday Times article right next to me - as yet unread.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]As I have said many times before that bloody watercooled sleight on the 911 name is going to hobble Porsche building the best sportscar they can on the Cayman platform. The 911 is long, long overdue to be killed off...[FONT=verdana,geneva"]
